I've owned six pair of Hoka shoes. This has become my primary shoes for hiking, unless the weather/ground is really wet (puddles, grass, etc. in which case I hike with the Kaha 2). These are as comfortable as any other pair I have owned, a perfect blend of cushion, and stability. I like the added seamless pad towards the heel, this makes the shoes easy to get on/off, similar to the Clifton, but also give just a little magic in the stability. In the photos this looks like it may stick out like a shoe horn, but rest assured, it does not.
The Vibram sole adds an extra level of both grippiness, as well as durability. A gold standard for trail shoes of all types.
You could run in these on trail, I've done it for short distances. But if that's what you're doing I'd recommend the Speedgoat. If looking for waterproof hikers try the Gore-Tex version of these, the Stinson Gore-Tex, or if you need even more durability, the Kaha 2 Gore-Tex. My go to for running in wet weather would again be the Speedgoat but Gore-Tex version.
If I had one quibble, it would be that while Hoka likely did try to treat the upper with some form of water resistance as claimed, it's still not a shoe for wet weather at all. It may repel water a little bit more than regular shoes, and if you always hike in merino wool and don't mind your feet getting a little wet, or it's warm enough they'll dry anyway, then this may not mean anything to you. Again, this is a very minor thought, on an otherwise superb shoe.

Straight out of the box I ended up on a 3-mile hike in Utah. No blisters or any issues. They felt great!

So far (3 weeks' wear) the shoes feel good. Good support, not as cushioned as others, but a bit smaller and agile.

The comfort of Hoka combines with the secure feel of a Vibram sole. Exactly what I was hoping for.

I chose the Anacapa Breeze Low, and wear them all day as my go-to shoe. Light and cushiony, comfortable and attractive. At 81, I chose a tan, conservative color, despite hearing I'm a "cool grandfather," and could "go for something more racy." Actually, I'm tempted! Very pleased with my choice.

Wear it every day. Extra thick cushion in soles make a big difference.

Ordered a half size lower than my Biondi's based on other comments and shoes fit well. Very, very comfortable. Like walking on pillows. These will be my go-to for non-rocky trails. However, these are probably not the best choice for very rocky trails since you sacrifice the feel of the trail because of the cushion plus there is a little bit of give in the sole when stepping on pointed rocks. If you are on a non-technical trail where a low rise shoe will serve your purposes, you won't find a more comfortable hiking shoe than these.

Great shoes from a great company. I'm a very tall man and have always searched for good comfortable shoes and finally found them with Hoka. I've owned three different pairs of trail runners and they've all been the most plush feeling shoes I've ever owned.

Got a pair to have something to alternate with my Salomon hiking boots for a week of scout camp - 10+ miles of trails per day. Fit great, felt great, happy I chose them.

The arch and heel support in these shoes is amazing. I suffer from plantar fasciitis, and all that pain goes away when wearing them. Highly recommend!!

Poor SupportGreat Support
This is my first time buying giant clunky space sneakers, but I did so at the recommendation of a friend who also suffers from plantar fasciitis. I bought the black on black, which I found to be the least ugly. After wearing them for a few days, I must say - I am converted. They provide so much more support, cushion, and bounce than I've ever felt in a sneaker. They're relatively light (considering how bulky they are), and the mesh material will be helpful as my feet run hot, esp. in summer. They take some getting used to, but they're making walking (and dancing) so much more endurable. I'll deal with the goofy appearance, as the function certainly eclipses the fashion. Absolutely recommended to anyone dealing with plantar fasciitis.
