The sweater was beautiful. I usually wear a large but ordered a med based on other reviews. The sweater fit like an XL. I returned it and was refunded promptly. Great customer service.

First I have to say this is a beautiful sweater, and I kept it for that, even though the fit on me wasn't what I hoped.
First of all the length is much longer than it appears. It is more upper thigh or even mid thigh, not hip. And the neckline is much wider too. I have to wear a T shirt under to keep my bra straps from showing. Lastly, as the sweater is made of cotton, and of a longer length, it is actually rather heavy.
Having said all this, I kept the sweater, because I love the color, a dark cranberry, and it's not easy to find a sweater with the look of a hand knit. Perhaps L.L. Bean will take my comments and others and adjust the fit for future offerings.

While this sweater looks great in pictures, the fit is just weird. Initially I ordered a large as I have a large bust and broader shoulders and had to return it due to how huge it was.
Swapped it out for a medium which is still fairly large but I'm sure a small would have been too small. It is bulky in the body but the sleeves are pretty tight at the wrists and armpits. Regardless I decided to keep it and just deal with it.
To top off everything, as I was getting ready this morning, I lifted my arm and noticed a big hole on the underside of one of the sleeves just above my elbow. I've only worn this thing a handful of times. Expected better at this price-point.

This sweater is beautiful and very well made, however the sizing is a huge issue. I'm 5'10 190lbs and I ordered a large. When it arrived it seemed a bit over sized, but by the end of the first day wearing it was like a storybook sweater that just kept growing. I ended up giving it to a girlfriend who normally wears a 2x. I'd recommend sizing down at least a size if not 2.

I love the way this sweater looks and fits the model in the pictures. That being said it is difficult to achieve that look. I wear a small or xsmall at LLBean. I ordered the xsmall and found it ran large, especially through the torso, and as many others have stated the neck opening is a bit large. I was afraid a smaller size would have resulted in the sleeves and overall length being too short. I love the weight and design of the sweater, side zips add an interesting twist. It kinda has that " boyfriend sweater" look. I'm curious why after so many negative comments about the large neck opening over the years, that LLBean has not changed this to a smaller crew neck. That and a more fitted torso would be great improvements. I did end up keeping it and doing the scarf thing.

The idea of this sweater is great, but sadly it hung so weird and accentuated my belly area, which is never good on anyone. Because the material is so heavy (a plus!), combined with the way the stitching is on the edge and the rounded hem, the hem hugged my body while the middle part kind of stuck out, making my belly appear far bigger than it really is. No amount of adjusting the side zippers helped. So, back to LL Bean it goes. Sad, because it was a nice heavy weight. I really wanted it to fit!

I was surprised at how weighty it was, not just thick but heavy. It may be totally what someone else is looking for, but i didn't like it. You could tell it was very well made though. Just not for me :)

This is for the tunic. I love a roomy sweater; unfortunately this was hugely oversized and the neckline was very unflattering. Might have been better with a shirt underneath but I will be sending back due to the fit. I am always a medium with LLB, but the small in this sweater would probably fit correctly. Still tho, the neckline keeps me from re-ordering. The zippers are a great touch.

I have been thinking about this sweater for a long time and finally purchased it this year. Unfortunately I was soooo disappointed after it arrived and I was able to try it on. My regular size small was swimming on me. I didn't find the neckline at all flattering and at first I thought they had sent me the wrong size. The reviews on this sweater are very inconsistent. It is a beautifully made garment, but just isn't for me. Sadly it is going back to LLB.

I initially bought this sweater in black slate thinking it would have a gray tint but it's just a solid black sweater, so I was disappointed in the color. I was also disappointed in the sizing. I read the reviews so I knew it ran large, but I previously bought a Large jacket because I need the shoulder/arm length. So I ordered a medium and it was huge. I'm 5 foot 11 inches. I returned this for a Small in Beige and I'm still not sure I'll keep it. The small fits, but the material is very itchy and the neck is very large - you need to wear a scarf with this otherwise, I think it will look funny. I wish there was a solid cotton version that looked more like the wool fishman's sweater in a soft cotton.

Wanted to love this sweater. Quality seemed very good, and loved idea of all cotton sweater, but it just didn't look right. Tried 2 different sizes. Also neck was cut very funny as others said. Had to return.

I buy from LLB often. Should have looked more closely to the reviews. I am 5'8", 153 lbs. Ordered a large, my normal size for sweaters from LLB, however this sweater could fit 2 of me in it. Not sure what size I would take in this sweater. The sweater is beautiful. I will be returning this one. Wish I knew what size to order. I already bought scarves to wear with this sweater.

I've been looking for a fisherman sweater to replace one I had years ago. This is pretty and heavyweight and a great length for me. It just didn't hang right so I returned it.

I wanted to love this sweater, but it looked better online than in person. The knit design is beautiful, and I really liked the zippers on the side. However,it is a cotton sweater, so it was heavy and had a hard time holding the weight of the beautifully knit pattern. It looked really droopy. I would love to see what this would look like if knit in a lighter or wool yarn.

The design and material of this top is lovely, but the back of the hem stretched out after being worn while sitting. I washed and dried it according to the instructions in the hope that it would reshape itself, but no luck. It still has a bit of a "duck tail" look and flips out backward instead of hanging down straight. I know that LL Bean (with their awesome guarantee) would let me return it, but despite the stretching, I like how it the sweater combined a classic look with a modern silhouette so I'll hang onto it.

You will definitely need to wear a soft base layer under this. The knit is very chunky and I think it would be uncomfortable to wear all day. It was also a little big and bulky for my size.

The fabric is great as is the color (black spruce). The fit is atrocious. The neckline is huge. My bra straps were visible. There is no way you can wear this without another shirt underneath, and then the undershirt just bunches up around the neckline. Even a scarf doesn't do the trick of covering the gaping neck hole. It is just that big. The length is weird. Not a sweater length, not a tunic length. And it's huge up top, but tight through the hips. The sleeves on the small were too long for my very long arms. Just a really, really weird and ugly sweater. I gave it two stars because the fabric is pretty, but I don't know anyone who is shaped to fit this sweater.

I bought this thinking it would be much softer than it is, it feels pretty rough after a few washes.
Also the middle, instead of curving in between breast and hips poofs out, giving the illusion of a much less flattering figure than real life.
Also the neck is an odd width, like it needs a shirt underneath but isn't the right width for any I've found. Maybe a turtleneck would work?

Great quality sweater but it's way too long. I wanted to love it but at that length it was just weird looking and uncomfortable. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if they made a shorter (normal sweater length) version.

I do not like the feel of the material. It is coarse and heavy without being warm. It is too long.

I bought this sweater a year ago with high hopes. Sadly, I don't think I've worn it once. The quality is fine - no issue there. But the sweater weighs a ton. It's like wearing a weighted blanket. If that's comforting to you, great. But it's too heavy for me. Also, the neckline is awkward. It looks weird with a turtleneck but weird without one. It's not going to keep me from buying from LL Bean, but it was not a good purchase for me.

I purchased this in beige and I was surprised by the color. I thought it would be oatmeal-ish but it was a sickly yellow-toned color. I don't believe it would be a flattering color on most people. I knew this was tunic length but I found the short side zippers odd.

Way too long - i have a normal length torso and this hits half way too my knees. Beautiful sweater though if you are looking for tunic length with full butt/crotch coverage.

I have a favorite soft fisherman's knit 100% cotton sweater I purchased from The Gap. I thought a cotton sweater from LL Bean would be even better. I was wrong. I could hardly stand the way this sweater felt from the moment I put it on. It was hard and felt like it was made from fibers that were more like rope than soft fibers meant for a sweater. I initiated a return immediately.
