I have two of these Scottish Plaid shirts and love them. Was excited to see some new colors and bought the Blue Buchanan. The color is great, but the fabric is not the same as the ones I bought last year, it's somewhat thicker and not as smooth and refined. I was planning to keep it anyway, but when I washed it (cold water, tumble dry low) it shrank. It fit OK before washing, but now it barely buttons across my chest and doesn't even meet below that. I'm returning it.

Definitely not petite, too long, sleeves too long. Nice shirt, pretty color. Am returning it.

not sure about this shirt as it seems to be pilling. This is after 3 wearings.

Fit not the same as previous shirts. Sleeves smaller and shorter. Will have to return.

I love the color of this shirt and really want to keep it. For a shirt with a relaxed fit the armholes are very tight. I couldn't move my arms once I put it on so I will be sending it back. I have two other XL flannels that fit great so I'm very disappointed in the cut of this shirt.

Flannel at this price should not be so pilled after five times thought the washer! I am disappointed, and should have just chosen another organic flannel shirt, which is better quality.
I was pleased with the fit at first, but then it shrank only with the length, not the width, in the way t-shirts do sometimes and then look boxy.
The color (black watch) is very pretty.

I love the color and fit of this shirt but the flannel is awful. It pilled so bad after the first wash. It looks terrible and I only wear it around the house because it looks so bad. Definitely not LL Bean quality and I would not buy again. I bought flannel shirts from LL Bean years ago and they were great. This one is NOT!

I loved the Bean flannel shirts in the past. This one was stiff out of the package so I washed it. The lint that came from it was similar to if I had washed a rug! It is still rather stiff and rough. Very disappointed

Shirt is nowhere near the color in the pic. Shirt is basic blue instead of the purple shown in photo. Someone at Bean is slipping doing the photos as this has now happened to me twice this season.

I have been a Bean customer for well over 30 years and it pains me to write this review of their flannel shirt. First let me say I have at least 10 of these shirts bought over 15 years. The oldest is by far in much better shape than any of the others. That shirt is still bright in color, has absolutely NO pilling, the sizing is perfect and plaid at the seams matches! (that is huge to me). All the other shirts are faded, pilled and the sizing changes with each one bought over several years. It appears the flannel has changed numerous times over the years causing the lack of quality. The sizing has also changed. This most recent shirt in the same size as the others is enormous. The sleeves are much longer as well as wider. But the big issue for me is the horrible quality of the flannel. I just got the shirt and like everything I buy I washed it before wearing. I could NOT believe what it looked like and felt like after washing. The fabric is all pilled (I'm attaching a pic of the edge of the sleeve so you can see close up) and its very rough. Not at all like the first one. While I've kept all the other shirts I've bought even though they are pilled and faded, I'm sending this one back. Unfortunately I've come to the conclusion that like everything else the quality of years ago is just not there any longer. For the price of $49.95 I expect the plaid to match, the fabric not to pill after one washing and the sizing to stay the consistent. I have a hard time believing some of the rave reviews of this shirt. Maybe I just got a defect but that would have been the case for all the other I bought that also pilled and faded. This will unfortunately be the last flannel shirt I buy.

The shirt fit perfectly but it shrunk after 1st washing. Now the sleeves are an inch shorter and the shirt, overall, is tighter. I've been ordering from LLBean for years and have rarely had a problem. This shirt is a disappointment. I'll be returning it.

My husband and I have bought six flannel shirts from LLBean over the last seven or so years. The quality of the most recent ones has declined. The are too soft which makes them more shapeless and they pill. We would not order another and will treasure our older ones even more.

The fabric was soft and substantial. The colors were lovely and more subtle than in the photos. But the sleeves were WAY too long and the shoulders too baggy. I returned it.

Wanted to love this shirt. Fabric had a lovely plushy feel. Shirt too wide despite this being my usual size and me liking relaxed fit. Got it in royal Stewart color which I ordinarily love. The plaid design was larger than expected and showed Too Much Red. Plaid horizontals were positioned on the front of the garment in an"anti flattering" way. Anyone who has sewn with plaids will know what I mean. Returning it. Glad return shipping is free with my LL Bean card.

I had an LL Bean Scotch Plaid relaxed flannel shirt years ago that I loved. This one is MUCH longer and baggier. It probably would look OK if worn with leggings or tight jeans, but it looks all out of proportion in every way on a woman of average height -- sleeves too long, and overall more like a tunic length but boxy. Though all this material sounds comfortable, it wasn't.
I think the quality of workmanship is probably fine, and maybe it would have shrunk to a better fit later, but I washed a turtleneck shirt I bought here and it shrank completely out of shape -- from long sleeves to 3/4. So I didn't want to risk it.
The combination of uncomfortable and unattractive? Not a good buy. And to charge shipping on an item 50 cents less than the "free shipping" option? LL Bean used to be known for generosity and great service. I'm very disappointed.

First, the freeport pattern is cute and classy; the fit of the shirt is comfortably relaxed. It felt soft and cozy when first arrived so I kept it.
However, after less than 5 wears and 2 washes (cold water delicate cycle in laundry bag, line dry), it starts pilling everywhere!!! Now when you tough it, all you can feel is those bumpy little balls all over - so uncomfortable. Couldn't believe this poor quality of the fabric .
If you are looking for a solid flannel shirt, I would recommend the "Organic Flannel Tunic". That one is not as soft initially, but gets better after wear and wash, and 100 times more durable!

I believe that there is something in the fabric itself that is the culprit because the Black Watch women's flannel shirts I have are washed in cold water and dried on lower temperature, then hung out to get the collar and waistbands dry have shrunk. I launder them so the fabric stays soft and doesn't get "cooked," yet the Black Watch shirts become brittle and they have shrunk. They fit more tightly now than when I bought them and I have lost ten pounds. The sleeves have started crawling up over my wrist! Very disappointing. I hope I can make my present two Black Watch shirts last until L L Bean fixes this fabric problem.

I have several LL Bean flannel shirts all in Large size, but this one fits like a fitted large rather than the loose fit that's described. I washed it as recommended in cold water and low dry cycle, but now the sleeves have shrunk and are too short, and I can't layer underneath it. I have this same shirt in XL in another plaid and though it's bigger, I can wear a long sleeve t-shirt or Henley underneath and it's comfortable. I want my flannel shirts to be as comfortable as pajamas and versatile to wear outdoors, because I wear them almost everyday during the winter months. I can't believe the sizing is so different with the different types of flannel shirts. I'm disappointed because this one was backordered and I was looking forward to wearing it. However, I'm returning it.

What I liked: Color, softness and heavy thickness. It fit great right out of the package- loose relaxed and comfortable. After about two or three cold water washes and medium dryer heat, it shrank considerably and now fits snugly and the shirt tails roll up. Not the quality I had hoped for. Currently wearing it unbuttoned with a t shirt underneath as buttoning it makes it too snug, even without an undershirt.

I ordered 2 of these shirts, size 3X, in 2 different colors - and got 2 different fits! Unfortunately the one in my fave colors, the RobRoy (black and red plaid), is the shirt that is too tight. VERY weird experience. Very disappointing, LLBean. I'm hesitant to exchange it and waste shipping fees & time just to get another shirt that doesn't fit! I recommend you up your quality checks re SIZING asap!!
If i was ONLY rating the shirt that fits, I'd have given 5 stars, yes recommend, and fits true to size. But the Rob Roy, knocks my ratings down to Fair, No recommend, and Too Small.

I received two of these flannel shirts last Christmas as gifts. The shirts are soft, fit well and the colors are great. The biggest and in my opinion the most awful problem is the pilling of the fabric. After the first washing the shirts were pilled all over inside and out. Pills are those annoying little balls of fuzz which are caused by short cotton fibers tangling up and forming little balls of fuzz all over the shirts. My wonderful soft LLBean shirts look like they are 10 years old and ready for the rag bin after only one year of wear. I have two other LLBean flannel shirts which I purchased 10 years ago, they look wonderful, no pilling anywhere. What has happened to the quality of LLBean? I am very disappointed.

I am so disappointed. I have a couple of the scotch plaid LLBean flannels that I enjoy. This one is going back. The plaid on the old ones is a smaller print. The red is a darker, richer color. The one I received is an orange red in comparison, with a larger plaid. Just not attractive to me. The collar on the old ones is a button down. The new ones are not. You could find a plaid flannel anywhere now with this kind of quality for a lot less. You have let me down, LLBean. I no longer trust.

The shirt was washed by itself according to the directions prior to ever being worn. It was dried on low and upon removal from dryer the fabric was lifeless, wrinkled and covered in fuzz balls. I Have used a lint remover on the shirt and ironed it with care and it still looks wrinkled, lifeless and cheap.

Beautiful colors, pattern and very soft. BUT - the pattern lines did not match up in several areas of this shirt that were very noticeable. Somewhat snug in the shoulders. This shirt WAS NOT MADE in the USA - I would strongly encourage that LL Bean monitor how their merchandise is made - quality and size wise. The overseas manufacturers are not taking the time (and pride in workmanship) which LL Bean used to be noted for. Years ago everything was almost "perfect" but now not so much. Sadly had to return this shirt.

Workmanship seemed ok, but, Flannel was way too thin
to be of any use to this country gal.
I will have to look elsewhere.
