I have purchased these shirts from llbean for years, and I have loved them.
These new ones are not made of the same material. It is lighter in weight. Even though both shirts are said to be 100% cotton and made in El Salvador, the older ones were a slightly heavier weight and I liked the feel of them better. I don't know why companies are always changing a good thing. If it's not broke, don't fix it. Nothing is the same anymore.

I really liked this flannel shirt when it arrived. But after one washing, it is smaller by enough to make it less comfortable, and the fabric is pilling. I had also purchased a larger one in a different color, which is OK after washing because it was large enough to shrink, but it is also pilling. I am disappointed in the quality of the fabric.

This shirt is soft, warm, and nice looking. Unfortunately, it curls up at the tails, both front and back, so you're walking around with the hem of your shirt all curled up. No amount of ironing can fix this. I've even tried large heavy objects.
If it weren't for the curly hems, it would be a great shirt. But that's a big flaw.

Bought this shirt in grey two years ago and have worn and washed it many times. It is still like new. I got one in Dress Gordon this year and have worn and washed it once. The fabric did not wash well and one of the sleeves has started to fray at the seam. Very disappointed that the quality of the shirt has gone down.

These shirts are not made for anyone tall with a long waist or long arms. The fit was very boxy. But the sleeves were too short and the shirt pulls up to my belly button if I raise my arms. Not sure why you wouldn't offer tall in such a popular shirt. I will be returning it

First time I have been disappointed in a purchase. Shirt was really wrinkled and therefore it means ironing whenever having to wear it. In this day and age this should be mentioned in the catalogue write-up. The man's flannel shirt I ordered along with this shirt was perfect.

I purchased the Scotch Flannel in Regular, XXS, Prince Charles Edward and liked that it was thicker than the Freeport flannel. I then purchased Scotch Flannel in Petite, XS, Grey Stewart and it's noticeably thinner-- almost like a Freeport flannel. I'm not disappointed enough to go through the hassle of returning but I'm sad that my new flannel is not as thick.

My main complaint about the product, which is actually indicated by the picture, is the length of the sleeves. In comparison with the length of my arms, which are not unusually short, they extended past my hands. A large would have fit me better through the chest but would presumably have had even longer arms. The flannel was wonderfully soft and thick.

While the fabric feels soft and the colors seem vivid, the sleeves are as long as the ones in a large, the next size up! And I have long arms. The torso seems true to size. For the future, I'd like two things: 1) the plaid, itself, rendered in smaller dimensions, akin to those on the nightgown/shirt; and 2) seemingly traditional plaids done in unusual colors, to add a sense of style.

As several other reviews have said, this shirt runs small. I wear an XL and it was snug over my belly and straining the button tight over my bust. Material was soft and heavy and print was nice. I sent it back.

i ordered the princess mary and immediately sent it back. i thought it would be cute, but the colors made me feel like a christmas present and/or like i was wearing my bathrobe out in public. the shirt is great, but try it in a different color.

I bought this exact flannel last season and I absolutely loved it! But it seems since last year they've changed the cut (now it's tight over my chest and the button there was strained), the fabric feel of lesser quality, and there is no longer a breast pocket. Super disappointing! I want to own several more of the flannel I have, but I guess I can't. It disappoints me because clothes I like are hard enough to find anyway. Come on LLBean!! Bring the breast pocket back!

Very disappointed with LL BEAN and this item. The flannel felt thin and I ordered a women's 1X and it ran like a Large.

Love that the petite size fits.. L.L. shirts in petite are the only ones that have sleeves that are short enough for me.
Was really thrilled when I got the shirt, but wasn't until I was wearing it that I realized the design lacks a button to keep collar in place. Can either button all the way up to stay warm, or the next button down, situated across from the pocket, leaves too much room for cold air and 'wardrobe malfunctions'. Very odd - the goal of a flannel shirt is not to expose as much skin as possible... quite the opposite actually.
The pictures above are deceiving, you can tell that some must be previous models with that crucial button to keep collar in place, while other do not. Imagine that really none do this season but worth checking with customer service or in a store if you live near one.

I am really disappointed with the change in style. The button-down collar AND POCKET were selling points for me. These are way better than sweaters during colder weather. Others have commented that the patterns don't line up ... shame on you LLBean. Your products have always excelled in quality. These two facts are sufficient to keep me from ordering one this year.

I don't think that it is in the customer's best interest to leave reviews for a previous model of an item. When LL Bean decides to update or change a product, they should delete the previous reviews and inform the customers of the changes in the product description. I have been buying these shirts for many years and didn't realize that the design had changed until I tried it on.

BRING BACK THE OLD MODEL!!! You know, the ones that are sold out with the button down collars. These new ones look dorky and old-lady-like. the top button is in the wrong place, especially under sweaters. The flat collar is just WRONG for this shirt style and cut. Please Bean, hear me - bring back the old style!

The Scotch plaid shirt that I ordered fit well and the material was soft, however, the plaid was not matched on the sides. This made the shirt look poorly made and I am returning it. Very disappointed in the quality of construction of this product. Not up to L.L. Bean's usual standards.

I really like the relaxed, roomy fit of this shirt. For the people looking for a shirt with princess seams, I believe that was (is?) a different item entirely - as it should be. :) Relaxed fit for some people, slightly fitted for others.
My complaint is with the cuff plackets. They are constructed in such a way that even if you turn the cuff up twice, it falls down. I don't think I can live with this.

Have bought several of these flannel shirts in the past. Now they have no button down collor and princess seams. They run huge!
I used to buy a 1X (even though I am a Large/X-large petite) so there would be extra room to layer with.
Well, you don't need a size 1X to layer with any longer. It is 2-3X sizes too big.
I do like the color Wallace however but my what a big disappointment!
I returned this shirt for a refund sadly.

Contrary to other reviews these shirts pill! I have worn mine five times. The underside of the sleeves are already pilling. Disappointed!

I had ordered the Black Stewart pattern.
The fabric seemed a little thin for flannel, but the stitching seemed well.
While the plaid pattern aligned well on the shirt front and the pocket on the shirt front, it did not match on the sides or back yoke at all.
Ironically, the back yoke plaid pattern lined up perfectly with the back on the inside of the shirt.
From the price perspective, I expected better.
As an important point for a Scotch Plaid shirt is the plaid pattern itself, due to the plaid pattern not matching on most (sides, sleeves, back yoke) of the shirt, I would not feel comfortable wearing it in public.
Returning the item.

The fabric quality is not standing up to my expectations. The right sleeve has a worn out, threadbare area and there is a hole. I had this shirt 2 years, and this is not acceptable. I've been wearing some of my other shirts a lot longer and this has never happened before. I'm not usually hard on my clothes.
Very disappointed to say the least.
I got the same shirt for my husband (the men's version) and his is fine. He's been wearing his shirt more often, so his shirt should be more worn out but it's not. I think there must be something wrong with the fabric quality in my shirt.
