This jacket is the real deal. I originally ordered the "large tall" because I am 6'2" but it was a little too big when I tried it on. I called and spoke to a very nice person in customer service that did a "quick exchange" and sent me a size large while I packed up the "large tall" one. The size large arrived in three days and fits perfect! The construction is solid, the lining is warm, and the shell is waterproof. You can fell the quality of this jacket when you try it on. And this is why I like to buy things from L.L.Bean - they make things that last longer than similar items you might find online or in a department store. Also, this jacket has no flashy label on it - a personal preference. Do yourself a favor and get one!

I bought this parka for a Christmas trip to Iceland. The coat kept me warm in extreme cold and high winds and dry in rain and snow. I couldn't be more please.

Bought this to upgrade from the LL Bean parka I bought in 1977 (in North Dakota!). The Baxter State parka is even warmer and better. Hard to believe but true!!

After many years of excellent service this coat needed to have the zipper replaced.
It was repair promptly and correctly, by your service department, at a very resonable cost.
As usual, I am very pleased wiht your product and service.

I love this coat. I live in the NE USA, and it can get brisk here in the winter months. I have worn this jacket to the Catskills and it has kept me super warm. It is the perfect winter coat and I get lots of compliments.

My husband loves heavy thick winter coats and he was very glad he was able to replace his prior one. The coat was updated with a more water proof exterior and he is very happy with the warmth it provides.

I bought this from an LLBean retail store, so I got to compare this against the Maine Mountain Parka. Objectively, they are equally warm but the Maine is far more rugged (bigger zippers, no metal buttons, etc). The Baxter State is more fashion forward, and unless you plan on doing extreme outdoor activity, I would recommend it as a city jacket over the Maine.
An important comment on the jacket's fashion and sizing. I am a 5'8" man, 160lbs, and I usually wear size medium anything. Due to the Parka's styling, a size medium almost came down to my knees, which is a horrible look. If you are a shorter man, remember that long jackets have a tendency to shorten your appearance even further - be careful with a jacket like this. To my surprise, a size small was a perfect fit; still plenty of room to layer, but the length came right past my behind instead of at the knee.
So, if you match my height and weight, I would recommend a size small.

It's a good parka, the fit and comfort are great. But it attracts dirt quite easily.I have had it for close to two weeks now'and it's already very dirty.

Obviously designed and crafted with freedom and warm functionality at the top of the list of the many features that I have wanted in a deep winter coat. Wind, winter moisture, and cold are abundantly addressed.

I'm normally a Large per Bean's sizing (6'1" 200 lbs 16 X 34 shirt). I tried on a L in store and it was way too big. The Medium seemed right through the torso, but the sleeves were just a bit short. So I opted for a Medium Tall. The extra sleeve length seems right and there is still room for a sweater or fleece vest or jacket underneath. I haven't used it in the cold yet, but I expect it will be quite cozy.

Hard to beat for the price. Good to wear over a tshirt in most weather. Totally waterproof. Rugged shell. NOT lightweight and packable for backpacking. Daily wear in Vermont. Gazillions of pockets.

Second time for this coat that I bought as a gift for my husband. He wore the first one out after a decade. So, I bought hi the same exact coat in red for another fun run to stay toasty warm on those cold snowy days!

This is the 2nd Baxter State Parka I've purchased. The first one lasted 12 years and the only thing wrong with it was the main zipper wearing out. This parka is warm without excessive weight, adjustable for fit, and has lots of well designed and functional pockets.
