I have always wanted to buy a Baxter State Parka for my husband, who has poor circulation. I finally gave him one for Christmas, and it is the warmest jacket/coat he has ever had. He absolutely loves it. Sometimes it's too warm, as when he's on the train coming home from work or walking around the mall. Excellent, warm, comfortable parka. Highly recommend.

The Baxter State Parka is the best coat one can buy for really cold weather. It is truly windproof and waterproof. If I had had this coat years ago I wouldn't have gotten hypothermia from wet snow leaking in my coat's seams and getting the down wet. The disadvantage is that the coat is bulky. You have to take it off to drive and you get too hot when the weather warms up. But everyone who lives where the weather gets really cold should have one. (This coat was a Christmas present for my husband but I have had them for many years.)

I purchased this parka back during the summer but would not write a review until it had gone through a few cold Wisconsin days. I had done a lot of research into warm coats after the blunder of throwing my previous parka (from a different company) in the washing machine. I had that coat for almost 20 years, and it was bulky but warm (think George Constanza poofy coat). The first time I tried out the Baxter State Parka, I was walking the dog and had a t-shirt on underneath. I did not get cold. Mind you, previous to this walk, I did have on a different winter coat, layered up more, and was still cold. When it has gotten down into the teens here, this is my go-to coat. I'm a little excited because this upcoming week, the temperatures are supposed to drop below zero. I know this parka will be up to the challenge.

I needed a new winter coat, and I decided on this one, I made a very good decision. The coat is very warm and comfortable. It has been cold here in the Northeast this week, and I have wore the coat every day. Is a really warm coat. I really like that hood is removable. I purchased an XXL, my only issue is that the XXL is slightly too long It's a great coat and it's worth every penny

I bought this for my son as he lives in NYC and wanted a warm coat to walk around the city with and he could not be happier with this product!! It does run a bit big, I returned for the small and he looks great in it!! Stylish and extremely warm.

Well made and comfortable. I've worn it in 20 degree and windy weather and was very warm in it. I chose this model because I liked the removable hood and variety of pockets. The sleeves are a little tight, I could use more room. I wish there was an adjustment for the neck to cinch it down more. It does not sit tight around the neck so hot air can get out, plus it would make the hood seal closer around the face/ears. It is not issue if worn with a scarf, still would be a nice to have.

love the jacket, it's super warm, maybe a little too warm for the mild winter we're having in Maryland this year. very soft and warm. as other reviews have mentioned, the bottom pockets are at a strange angle but are very spacious

Bought this jacket for my 20 year old son who goes to college in Canada. In the winter they can have daytime highs around 0 and it gets as cold as -25 some mornings. He needed something truly warm, the weather there is no joke. He walks to classes in this and stays toasty all day - balaclava goes on, hood goes up, and he's all set. Now if I could only get him to wear gloves.

This coat is really high quality and very classy looking---we got the dark grey. There are a MILLION pockets in it. Worth the money. Can't wait for him to try it out in freezing cold and snow

I was looking for a heavy down filled jacket made of strong material for cold winter weather. If this jacket doesn't do the job then none will. Very well made with lots of pockets for gloves, scarfs, and hats.

Bought this jacket as an early Christmas gift for my son and he loves it, especially all the pockets and it has zippered pockets. Since we live in New England it gets really cold in the winter and near the water quite windy. Had bought him another jacket from LL Bean a few months ago but its really more suitable for the spring and fall where as this is perfect for winter. I felt it was worth the money since it will last him a very long time as long as he takes care of it

I purchased my new parka for using while snow-blowing in my driveway. It is extremely warm, and block all the wind I have up here on the hill. Love ALL my LL Bean products, and I have a lot o f them. Great products, very reliable, well worth the price. You get what you pay for, quality. Thanks for such great quality, and servicd.

I love this parka. I wasn't sure if it would be warm enough for Chicago winters, but so far it's been excellent. I love the fact that it is not super tight, and it's not too warm for upper 30s, and warm enough in the 20s. Looks good, too. Very happy with this product.

I was forced to abandon my favorite parka, an old school North Face parka that I had purchased for $10 at a garage sale and wore through the extremes for three winters until its zipper broke. So I researched and settled on a replacement--the Baxter State Parka. Having worn it for 3 winters now, I feel that I can give it a proper review. Pros: Great looks. Mine is charcoal grey and gets a lot of compliments. It's not as bulky as my North Face (which was like George Costanza's puffy gore tex jacket) and has a cinch waist which is more flattering to form. The pockets layout are also handsome. The hood is also an attractive feature, giving it a retro park look. Warmth: I've worn it in subzero temps and will attest to its warmth. The shell is wind resistant and although not as warm as my North Face, it will do the trick and keep you happy on frigid days, especially with a sweater underneath. Pockets: Pockets galore, both internal and external. I love pockets. This coat can become my storage locker if need be. Cons: The hood does not cinch as tightly as my old North Face (I felt like I was bundled in a mummy sack). So wind does penetrate even when cinched completely. Also, if you zip all the way up without your hood up, it feels very stiff and rigid on your throat, neck and chin area. This is alleviated when you put the hood on, however. My only other gripe is that the lower pockets-the ones you want to tuck your hands into while walking, are too low and do not allow me to comfortably "tuck" my hands and wrists into them. My arms feel unnaturally low. The pockets have fleece lining, although I'm always wearing gloves on a cold day anyway. In all, you get what you pay for in this warm, handsome jacket. The ripstop shell is stiff and I doubt that it will be ripped, even by a sharp object. I do wish the hood cinched tighter and that the lower pockets were not so low, but other than that, it's a winner!

I purchased this jacket and am very happy with it. Winter has arrived early in Chicago and I received it about a week before the cold weather hit. It is the warmest jacket without being too bulky. I know I'll have this for years to come

Product description was spot on and the fit was perfect. Most of all keeps me warm in cold temperatures without wearing 10 layers of extra clothing.

The jacket is amazing. I wear it up north in Massachusetts and Vermont where it gets as low as 5 degrees and I am warm during my walks outside with my dog. It is a pretty big coat, and extremely thick and comfortable. It is durable and haven't had an issue with water or rain while in it. The fur hood is able to be unzipped, but it help with the wind when it remains on the jacket. Front hip pockets are not great, they are not very comfortable to keep your hands in but if it is cold enough you will be wearing gloves anyway. I also wear it when its not that cold outside in the early morning in the fall so I dont have to layer and I can walk around in this jacket and a T-shirt. Very comfortable and I have slept in it while camping.

My husband and I each purchased one of these coats for a ski trip to Traverse City, Mich.. We didn't even have to zip them all the way they kept us so warm. The fit is perfect, the zippers work very well, the Velcro at the wrists and hood is superior to elastic because it won't stretch out and you can make them as snug or as loose as you want. The drawstrings at the hood, waist and bottom keep out the drafts effectively and the fit is comfortable. We were so impressed the product we bought three more for our granddaughters. Definitely would recommend purchasing them if you want a warm, well functioning coat.

I wish I could show a picture of my coat. It is 25 years old, stained, and held together by duct tape, but it is still my go to coat in our cold windy winter, though just around the house or in the woods. Never really enjoyed winter til I got this coat
