I bought this bag about 2 months ago and have been incredibly happy with the purchase. The bag is versatile with features that work for just about any use. I'm primarily using the bag for work travel (typically 2-4 nights away from home). It's perfect for packing clothes, laptop, and other necessities. I never have an issue getting overhead space for it, and it also fits easily under airplane seats in a pinch. Also, the YouTube video to show the bag's features was very helpful to get up to speed quickly.

Several years ago I was traveling abroad and my checked baggage was lost in transit. I was stranded in a foreign country for almost a week with just the clothes on my back. This bag came up on kickstarter shortly after and I have not had to check my luggage at all ever since. The peace of mind that the tools I bring with me on my travels will stay with me on my travels make this immediately worth it. The build quality, ease of access to every element, the organization that the cubes add in make this honestly the best bag I've ever owned. I've never thought, I wish this bag had 'x' because it already does. The handle on every side in particular makes me smile when I'm hauling my bag around the city and can maneuver this bag comfortably in any situation or position.

We bought 2 of these backpack for our trip to Bali after watching the hilarious video. I now travel with this backpack for weekly work trips. I love how it collapses down so I can use it for a computer bag instead of taken luggage and a separate computer bag for work trips.

The Peak Design Travel Backpack is an exceptional travel companion with a 45L capacity. It is spacious and easy to organize with thoughtful compartments and pockets that make packing and unpacking a breeze. The backpack is also comfortable to wear with adjustable straps that distribute weight evenly across the back. The quality of the materials and construction is evident and gives a sense of durability and longevity. Overall, I highly recommend this backpack for anyone who wants a reliable and functional travel companion.

best combination of usability and design. It doesn't necessarily look like a camera bag so you don't draw to much attention on you, you can use it as hand luggage and it has great features for serious hiking like a hip belt. It's simply the one bag for everything

I needed a bigger backpack for my 14" laptop that could also accommodate like an overnight suit case as well. This does the job. I wasn't sure about the back-side entry but it turns out to be really convenient and practical for organizing more like a suitcase which enables me to fit more and not have to dig around. When it's in the fully expanded mode it easily fits enough for a day including a pair of sneakers. It's comfortable so that even when it's heavy it sits well on my back (i'm only 5'3 and very petite). The slots to tuck the straps away is great for when it goes in an overhead airplane bin so it doesn't feel so sloppy. I'd like another outside pocket on the front and the little pockets on the side are too small for a quart sized water bottle. The one outside pocket is big enough to fit a passport in a case, a wallet, a cellphone, cables and other little items like lip balm. It's incredibly sturdy and the tie downs are an added bonus.

After using the Peak Design Travel Backpack 40L on several trips, I can confidently say that it is one of the most well-designed travel backpacks on the market. With a flexible capacity (35/40/45 liters), this backpack is the perfect size for extended trips, and it manages to be both spacious and organized.
One of the standout features of this backpack is the use of packing cubes. These cubes make packing and unpacking a breeze, and they help to keep your items organized and easy to find. Additionally, the backpack comes with a rain cover that fits snugly over the entire pack, keeping your belongings dry in the heaviest downpours.
One thing to note is that the sternum and compression straps are not attached to the backpack itself, so you'll need to be careful not to lose them. However, once you get used to the setup, the straps work great and allow for easy adjustment and customization. I also appreciate the use of compression straps, which can be used to attach a bulky travel neck pillow, freeing up space inside the backpack.
While the zippers aren't YKK, they are substantial and seem tough and reliable. So far, I haven't had any issues with water getting into the pack, but with the rain cover, water is not likely to be an issue. The backpack also has a number of other thoughtful features, such as a padded laptop sleeve and multiple access points, making it easy to get to your belongings quickly and efficiently.
Overall, I highly recommend the Peak Design Travel Backpack 40L to anyone in need of a durable and functional travel backpack. It's lightweight, easy to carry, and provides plenty of storage for all of your travel essentials. Just make sure to keep track of those straps!
How I pack it out.
Here's a suggested packing list and organizational setup for your Peak Design Travel Backpack and a sling during short trips:
In the Peak Design Travel Backpack:
Clothing: 3-4 t-shirts, 1-2 pairs of pants or shorts, 1-2 sweaters or jackets, 1 pair of comfortable shoes, 5-6 pairs of socks and underwear
Toiletries: Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, soap, contact lenses or glasses, any necessary medication
Tech: Jabra Elite 85 headphones, Fire tablet, phone charger, portable charger, charging cables, adapter plug (if needed)
Other: Water bottle, snacks, a small umbrella or rain jacket, travel towel
To organize your items in the backpack, use packing cubes or pouches to separate items by category. Here are some suggestions:
Clothing: Use packing cubes to organize your clothes by type (shirts, pants, etc.) or by outfit for easy access.
Toiletries: Use a toiletry bag to keep your items organized and contained.
Tech: Use a tech pouch to keep your headphones, tablet, and chargers together and easily accessible.
Other: Use a small pouch or pocket to keep your wallet and ID easily accessible.
In the Sling:
Phone, wallet, and ID: Keep these essentials in the front compartment for easy access.
Camera: If you plan to use your camera or phone for photos, keep it in a small protective case or pouch.
Snacks and water bottles: Use the main compartment to carry snacks and a small water bottle for easy access during the day.
You may want to consider using additional packing cubes or pouches if you have more items to organize or if you prefer to keep things separate. I currently use a combo of the Patagonia large packing cube and the PD small packing cube for organizing clothing in the backpack. Other options include the Peak Design Packing Cubes or Tech Pouch, or the Eagle Creek Pack-It Cubes.
Overall, make sure to pack light and only bring what you need, as you'll be carrying your bags around with you throughout the day. It's also a good idea to pack a smaller daypack or tote bag for shorter excursions or if you need to leave your larger bags at your accommodation.

Needed a backpack built to carry a few days worth of clothes that I felt would last, be secure on my back (in Europe, Mexico). Perfect size, construction and pockets. Highly recommend.

Just took it out for its first week-long trip. Pretty comfortable to walk with. Zippers feel really sturdy and held up well for the week. Took a bit of a squeeze to get it into the overhead bin on the plan but it definitely fit once I gave it a little push. Overall very happy with this purchase.

Purchased a month ago. I can use it for everyday use in its 35l form or when I travel expand it to 45l. I don't have to have two backpacks this one covers it all.

My wife and I purchased two of these amazing packs for a two week trip to five Italian cities. We had no problems moving from trains, taxis, Ubers, boats, you named it we made it work. With new laundromats visits we maintained clean clothing for the entire trip.

Excellent pack for travelling or even in the city. Only downside is that the versatility and durability comes at the cost of weight. Sage color ages much better than black.

My son asked for a backpack that would qualify as a carry on but with more capacity than most. He loves the 45 L product and has used it several times already. Well planned and sturdy. Delivery was swift! Thanks!

I bought this for a 1-month trip to Europe in December. With the current state of the Airlines and the fact we were traveling at peak time, I was concerned that I may never see my luggage again. After a lot of research on the web, I invested in the PD Travel bag and packing cube system. We traveled through Italy, Turkey, and Spain and not having to check a bag was amazing. I even came back thinking of things I would reduce for our next trip. The bag performed well beyond my expectations, the features where more convenient than I thought they would be and the quality of construction was exceptional. All the storage pockets and handles where well thought out. I was happy with my purchase and I would highly recommend this bag.

I recently traveled to the islands of Thailand and this bag made it so easy. I was able to pack everything I needed in its incredible storage space. Accessing things on the fly was super easy with all the access ports. The quality of the bag is great. It was able to handle beaches, jungle trails, boat rides and hotels. This is my new favorite travel companion.

It is all that I read or saw in video reviews. Excellent quality, versatility, and value. Best backpack I've ever owned...also the most expensive. Worth every penny for its comfort, storage, and sharp looks.

Sleek, modern, yet comfortable and versatile. I can use this bag to bring what I need to the gym and quickly transition to a daily commuter for things I need for the office. I photograph, I travel, I workout, and I'm usually on the go. This bag is essential for people like me in the military as well who don't like to pack in a military style backpack but still have the space required to take the essentials when traveling abroad and not being an easy target. Even as a small business owner, working at farmer's markets I can take my admin supplies along with me and be completely mobile with this modular bag.
