After only a few weeks with the shoes I wore them for a 40 mile trail run I'd been training for and stubbed my toe on a root. The fabric completely tore. Wish they had better reinforcement in the toe area.

Pros: Fit very well with no break in time. Very comfortable. Cons: color bleeds into socks. Edging around inside of toe box on right shoe has come unglued and bunches up inside of shoe.

I ordered 9.5s, even though my regular shoe size is 8, running size 9. On a hill run I felt like my toes got bruised going downhill, I assumed from foot slippage, so I ordered a half size down (9). With the 9's my heel started slipping out and causing blisters on regular runs. Also, I didn't like mesh top as was hard to get foot in, as the whole shoe crumpled every time I put my foot in, and I had to use all five fingers to keep it open and loosen all the laces. Then I had to tighten the laces to run in it. But I would have put up with it if the heel had fit correctly. Really sad to return! Great cushioning and overall loved the fit, besides heel issue. Love altras, really wanted this to work.

I actually ordered these 3 times due to sizing issues. The exact same shoe is sold in both mens and womens in the same colors. I've always seen mens colors and womens colors. Not this time! I ordered a womens 11 and 12 before I realized why they were so small! Anyway, they fit nice, with good cushion. The heel cup is shallow, which I hope doesn't result in a loose fit. Overall, it seems like a solid shoe.

The bottom of this shoe was great for my foot. Length good. Width ok. Comfortable cushion. But I just couldn't deal with the 2 problems on the top of the shoe. The tongue folds over on itself at the bottom, applies pressure to the top of my foot and makes my toes numb. The bottom part is made from a very light material and cannot support the stiffness of the rest of the tongue - thus the fold. The 2nd part is the heel. Some reviewers have had a problem - others not. For me, I couldn't stop the slippage. Tried different socks, lacing, heel pad and nothing stabilized it. Regret having to return it but those are deal breakers.

I wanted to love these. Right out of the box they were supportive. I love the tie system. However they were too wide for my mid-wide feet. My orthotic took up the extra width but made the heel slip. So sorry these didn't work out so must return.

Love this shoe. It is light and fast, and very grippy! The heel does fit a little on the loose side, but I don't have any slippage or blisters. It's just not secure. I'll wait until an updated version comes out before I buy again, but I look forward seeing some slight improvements to this amazing shoe.

I was worried about the heel cup after reading reviews and trying them on for the first time, but when I went on my first run with them I didn't notice any heel slipping at all! They feel super light, the grip is AMAZING, and they have great energy return. I have not worn them on anything super long, but they have felt great on 4-8 mile days! I don't think I will buy another pair until the next model, hoping for a more secure ankle/heel cup because I'd feel less worried about ankle rolls or blisters. I love the uppers, they feel like comfy soft socks, but with amazing grip. Really excited to see how this shoe develops I think Altra is on to something really amazing!

I thought these were going to be the perfect shoes. Lightweight, grippy, amazing cushion. Unfortunately they give me blisters. I've worn 7+ pairs straight out of the box, never happened before.

Like the design and material of the Mont Blanc, very different than my Lone Peaks and Timps. My heel blistered on my first walk, but swapped socks and better after that. Also heel locking laces.

Love - lightness, grip, and cushion. Not love - the heel design. Tried two different lace patterns, couldn't get my heel to stop sliding around. I received these at a discount.

As an Altra RED team ambassador, I received these shoes at a discountSidebars don't irritate inside arches. Heel is snug, but not too tight. No heel bounce. GREAT cushioning in the heel and midsole. Laces are finally the perfect length which is hard to find in the womens shoes, waterproof laces perfect for trails, AND they stay tied. Tongue is a little sharp/stiff, so wear higher crew socks to avoid irritation on tops of foot.

I've only done a short run in these shoes so far. While I love how light they feel, the grippiness of them, and the color scheme, I think the heel is too slippery, but I'm sure this can be fixed by a different lacing technique. I would've probably bought another pair if they didn't feel too narrow; I just like wider shoes. That said, I loved how cushiony and comfortable during and after the run they were. Note: I got the shoes at a discounted rate.

Immediately impressed by the grip the sole provided on the snow and trail. I loved the upper, especially in the toe box. True to size. I was worried that the heel cup was slightly too loose and I did experience some slipping but after 14 miles I had no hot spots. I may try a heel lock tying method on my next adventure. I did receive these at a discount.

I really want to give this shoe 5 stars. They feel fantastic with lightweight cushion that seems to just keep working on the hard rocks in central PA. The soles also seem to be sturdy unlike other shoes I have used in the past. However, after not even 50 miles, the inside liner over the insole came undone and caused some severe blistering.

I had some heel slippage; not as cushioning as other shoes of the same brand. It was a no for me.

I have run in Lone Peaks for years and love them. I was looking for something with a similar fit and feel yet more cushion for coming down technical mountain trails and this shoe is not that. The soles of this shoe are great! Even in snow, ice and rock I feel like I have stable traction. Sadly, the Mont Blanc has a more narrow toe box, the tongue area is so thin that it is finicky to adjust and the fit around the heel is too minimal to be comfortable. I was hoping these would be the shoe for my next ultrabut I don't think I can tolerate them for more than 10 miles.

I purchase this shoe when it first came out and I was extremely happy with it. Straight out of the box I ran a 50mile race on a very technical, rocky terrain and it felt great! After using it for another few 100m races it was time to retire them and buy a new pair. So I got a new pair in blue, and also I got MB with boa system. Both new pairs were a huge disappointment. The sole felt a lot harder, the cushioning wasn't the same. I had to give them away. Has anybody felt the same way? I wish I could get exactly same pair as the first version! I would buy 5 pairs! But for now I'm still searching for a comparable trail shoes, specifically that works on technical, mountainous terrains.

I like this shoe, I just wish it was in the original foot shape for Altra, not the "standard" the arch seems to narrow and I feel like my arch is sitting on top of the seem between the cushion and wall of the shoe.

I wanted to upgrade to a more supportive trail shoe after doing a one day pemi traverse in altra Timp shoes (I was wrecked). I've really enjoyed the sensitivity of the Lone Peak, but long hikes in New England really requires more support, and it turns out the Timps don't really hold up for long treks. I have been curious about Altra's lines of more supportive shoes, so I decided to try out these Mont Blancs. There is certainly more cushion, but the sole feels more rigid than I expected and it doesn't really respond to my movements as well. As a result, the shoe doesn't really feel very stable, and a lot of the movement unfortunately seems to happen around my heel. I actually have taken it on a few easy trail runs and found myself rolling my ankle pretty often. Even after retying the shoes and doing some other re-lacing tricks, the shoes still don't quite feel to fit around the heel cup to pull off trail running and longer hikes. Going uphill causes the heel to shift too much. These shoes will now just be my fancy dog walking shoes in the park, unfortunately.

Love the cushioned sole. Hate the heel and tongue. The heel is difficult to tighten due to lack of padding. The tongue has no padding and where it is attached to the front of the shoe the stitches bite into the top of my foot and cause cuts.

I reallllllly wanted these to work. They are almost perfect. I tried to convince myself to hang on to them. However, as others noted, the upper material is very thin and flimsy; it seems as thought it will stretch out with just a little wear. Additionally, this flimsy material is the only thing protecting your toes, so not much protection.
