Altra has been my go to shoe for years until now. Prior styles had a wide toe box & gave me comfort with enough cushion but was still flexible. the design has changed and it's horrible, disappointed!

I ran in the Timp 3 for several years (purchased a few pairs initially). Loved the timp 3 but unfortunately the Timp 4 had a design change in the tongue of the shoe and it cuts into the front of my ankle. Doesn't work for me since I wear low rise socks. Not sure how this design passed quality control but hope they change it back to the old style next time around as Altras are the only shoes I wear because i need zero drop.

Finally ran out of places to buy the Timp3 & decided to try the Timp4. ONE try on my foot and it's back in the box for return. TERRIBLE in comparison to Timp3 - bring Timp3 back please!

I've never had an issue with any shoes I've worn before, until I got these trail runners. I wore them on a 6 mile trail and had immense pain on my shin/ankle area from lack of support from the shoe. I spent the next few days icing and taping up the area. I will have to toss these shoes, although I've only been wearing them for a week. Very disappointed.

Toe box is too wide for my more narrow feet so on long runs I tend to get some hotspots from my feet shifting too much.
Biggest complaint is I only have about 120miles in them and they are completely trashed. My left shoe is essentially tearing on the inside forefoot. Tread is basically completely gone on the forefoot. Heel is already ripped open on the inside usually don't see that until 300miles or so.
Oh and the tongue destroys my shin/ankle.
Really wanted to like these but the quality is garbage especially considering how expensive they are if you don't pick them up during a sale.

I knew when I ordered these from reading the reviews I was either going to love them or hate them. I hate them. They are nothing like the Timp 3, which I absolutely adore, and now I regret not ordering more of them. One thing that many people seem to agree on is that the tongue on these shoes is simply terrible. It's hard for me to even put into words all the issues with it, but the main problem was it digging into my foot. It reminds me of the tongue on the Olympus 4, which I also struggle with. Another thing that bothered me about them is the hard material at the base of the shoe laces. It rubbed up against the top of my foot and hurt. Maybe wearing thicker socks could help, but personally, I prefer thinner socks.I also would size up a half size with the Timp 4s. My Timp 3s are a size 9 and I ordered a size 9 for the 4s but they felt a little small to me.
I really hope that Altra takes these reviews seriously and considers going back to the amazing shoe that the Timp 3 was. Overall, I must say that I'm quite disappointed with the Timp 4.

I am so disappointed Altra! Shoes feel cheap. Tongue is horrible and not fabric! Dig into your foot. Tighter, narrower and seem cheaply made. I am an Altra believer and so disappointed.

What a disservice to runners. I almost returned these shoes after checking the reviews before my first run, but figured I would give them a try. Uppers blowing out at 50 miles of easy trail use...

Altra makes great fitting shoes that just don't last. Unfortunately this is my last pair. So sad about it. So many poor reviews saying they don't last hopefully they get there act together and make some reliable shoes in the future.

As others have stated, this is a very comfortable shoe. However, after light use the side walls start to blow out! Completely unacceptable at this price level!

Bring back the Timp 2 design!! I bought this new version after having worn out 2 pairs of 2s. These are an entirely different shoe, and not in a good way. Tongue is way too long, stiff, and shifty. Forefoot/toe alignment is off. Had to pull hard to tighten the laces in an attempt to get a secure fit. Design changes backfired. Returned these and am now crossing my fingers I can find another ‘foot-shaped’ shoe, Altra or otherwise, in my size.

These Timps hurt my feet in many ways. The tongue is too long, there is a hard seem that rubs against the top of my foot, and for longer runs my metatarsals get major pain that lasts for days. The whole shoe feels flimsy and too soft. Laces don't even stay tight after double knotting.

I liked these shoes until the traction at the ball of the foot came off entirely after less than 100 miles. Altra told me this was normal wear and tear and not covered under warranty

Altra got the fit right on this one. Foot sinks right in; cushioning, height, and shoe box width make this model fit like a glove. Better than Lone Peaks, and certainly better than the Timp 3.0. But despite these shoes having 150 pretty easy miles on 'em, the sidewalls are blowing out. I thought it was just me until I saw others in the review section with the same issue in the same location on this model. Looks like a materials failure to me. Hopefully Altra developers will take notice for future versions. Don't change the architecture of the shoe: just the material. Thanks. See ya down the trail.

Timp 2s have taken me through hundreds of miles of trail. I've loved the flexibility of the top of the Timp models that's not available in the more rigid Lone Peak model. In the Timp 4 model, there are now two different layers and widths of sole right below the ball of the foot. The top layer is narrower, so the widest part of my foot hangs over both side even when sized up. I'm bummed to have to search for a new shoe.

The Timps have gone downhill since the Timp 1.5 and 2! I didn't care for the Timp 3 but was able to purchase multiple pairs of the 2's online to stockpile in hopes the Timp 4's would revert back to the 2's. The Timp 4's are even worse than the 3's. The high heel is awful and the tongue is ridiculous. Sad to say I can no longer find the 2's in my size so going to try the Lone Peaks. But a bummer to see a great original shoe change for the worse.

This would be a great shoe. Perfect actually... If it weren't for the awful tongues. I'm so tired of tongues like this. I don't get it. They are uncomfortable & painful. Same with the Torin shoes. The Torin 6 was not improved from the 5. The fabric on the edge of the tongue is slightly different but it's the same concept & painful tongue. Just WHY?!

I absolutely LOVED these shoes at the store, and for the first three weeks. I use these shoes for hiking my dogs in Florida. Everything about these shoes seemed fabulous..roomy toe box, light weight, breathable, attractive color, no break in...BUT the inside sole at the ball of my foot has lost all cushioning. I can feel the inner parts of the sole and it is extremely uncomfortable, to the point that I can not do another long hike in these shoes. For the cost of these shoes and only one month of wear...Not Acceptable!! I own Brooks that have years of long hikes on them and still they have more cushion in them than these. (Altra Timp 4)

Needed to replace my well loved Timp 2s. Didn't hesitate to order the Timp 4. I love the gray/teal color. The shoe fits great; I love the cushioning and traction. But the long stiff tongues poke my legs with every step. Didn't bother wearing them beyond walking around my living room while trying them on. Sent them back immediately. :(
