The proof is in the pudding. (Due to poor planning on my part) I ended up running a 50 miler with these fresh out the box. Went insane. Lightweight, durable on rugged terrain. Perfect shoe for the experience. One constructive feedback/insight is that I had tried on a garish colorway in person. Fit perfect. Wanted something more subdued so ordered a different color online that was not available in person. Heel cup on inside of heel did not feel the same as the pair I tried on in person. Was quite anxious this would shrederize my heels but again, the proof is in the pudding. Ended up being no problem. Just be aware there is apparently some fit variation between colors. This could be the case for many shoes/makers so not sure if this is specific to this design but was something I experienced

Just a quick note to add to the other great reviews out there: I recently forgot my climbing shoes on an excursion in a famous granite climbing area in Utah with huge multipitch routes. We had intended to climb a 5 pitch route. I decided to try to climb the route in my Altra Mount Blanc shoes. Nobody does that. Occasionally, you see people climb in "approach shoes," but no one really attempts to rock climb in trail running shoes. To my shock and surprise, the Mont Blanc shoes were surprisingly grippy, had great control and performance on the rock. People who saw me climbing the route in them were shocked. I still can't believe I climbed to the top of our objective with them, and they were so comfortable to boot! Since then, I have taken them in place of my approach shoes (sorry la sportiva) on all my big mountian outings. But I still bring my rock shoes for the actual climb. ; )

Love these shoes; the toe box is roomy; I normally take a 10.5 but sized up to an 11 to accommodate thicker socks and swelling during hiking. I have narrow heels and did not feel heel slippage.

I ran a 100 miler in these with every intention of changing my shoes halfway, but these gave me no issues. I had 0 blisters or hot spots. I'm normally a Timp guy but I thought I'd try these too. The performance is almost hard to believe.

I decided to try these as a shoe that would be a little heavier duty (sole) than the Paradigm and one that I could alternate with the Olympus (I bought 4 pair of the Olympus 4 because I can't stand what Altra have done with the altogether too long heel pull on the Olympus 5; unless i were to wear hiking socks, it rubs on the back of the ankle in an annoying way). The Mont Blanc is an expensive, tough-soled, but amazingly light weight and comfortable alternative that sits between the Paradigm and Olympus. I alternative shoes every other day, but otherwise would wear these all of the time in the city. I wear the Olympus 4 for hiking. They run true to size compared to the Paradigm and Olympus 4. ALTRA, PLEASE SHORTEN/REMOVE THE HEEL PULL TAB ON THE OLYMPUS 5!

After running in just about every Altra road/trail shoe mad since 2016, these are my favorite! Love the bouncy feel and support (as I've gotten older I've moved from Superiors/Lone Peaks to Timps - these are perfect for pushing through long runs on sore legs). I have over 400 tough trail miles on my first pair that include a 72-mile AT trail run, a couple of 50ks, and a few 14ers, and these shoes have held up better than most Timps or Lone Peaks I've had. No issues with heel slip, ankle rolls, or durability - all aspects I was worried about. Bought another pair a month ago, but haven't broken them out because the first pair still perform great!

Feels great on feet. Great cushion and the grip is fantastic. Gaiter's are a must for the trail as it is really low cut. Very secure fit with plenty of toe room.

I changed the laces right away and run without the insert....BAM! amazing shoe for me. I have about 150mi in them and have little to show for wear. I really enjoy running in these. They look so good too! I have had great relationship with all my Altra running shoes. Now if they only made something with a safety toe!

140 miles on the pair I bought. The first couple runs reminded me of an Escalante 1.5 tuned for offroad use. The foam & stack height are my favorite part about the shoe. I like the materials used for the upper, sort of reminds me of parachute. The dye stained my socks on the first couple runs. The lacing scheme keeps my feet snug in the shoe, although a slight drawback is loosening the laces when taking them off or putting them on can be slow. The heel pads are noticeable when walking, but not when running. The shoe is flexible and comfortable to run in. I have not had any issues with rock punctures.

This shoe has it all. Great cushioning but lighter than the Olympus. Has more cushioning than the lone peak. The tread is awesome. Just ran a 100 mile race in these and footing was never an issue. I switched out the laces, which was a big plus. The top of my foot was bruising and I figured out it was from the stiffness of the laces. Put in Olympus laces and problem was immediately fixed. This shoe is worth the money.

After putting about 100 k on these shoes, I now love them. After hearing some reviews, I went down half a size and didn't really have any of the heel slippage others have mentioned. I did start getting some soreness on the top of my feet, switched to flat laces and that had done the trick. I love the light weight and springy feel. Recommend going down half a size and switching the laces and then you have a great shoe!

My first run in these was a 4 mile trail run and I felt like I was running on springs. By far my favorite running shoes for any surface.

After having run 50k in these, Al I can say is wow! They have great energy return, want to run faster and after running those miles in the Rocky Ozark mountains, protection underfoot is great as well. Only partial complaint would be the collar lockdown, but after a few runs, that is fixed as well. Love this shoe very much !

Been running in Altra for years. This one knocks out of the park! Some complaints with heel cup area. I have had no such issue. You will notice it is loose because of the heel pads being lower. Once you start running your locked in without movement. I did switch out the laces to a 54"flat type and lock in become even better. These shoes are responsive and comfortable. Wonder if a plated version is in our future!

1. Super-light; cushioning is perfect. Not too much, not too little. Good control in technical spots, and good cushioning on pointy rocks. 2. Toe-box feels a little tighter than other models, but still leaves good room for toes to spread on landing. 3. Wish the heel lockdown was better; literally the only thing that bugs me a little--especially at the price point. I've run in the Hoka Speed Goat 4 and North Face Flight Vectiv Carbon, and the Mont Blanc is the best when it comes to combining the best cushioning with control.

I have the Olympus and LP and this one is falling right in the middle of both shoes. Great cushion but yet nimble, a bit narrower at toe box and mid foot. Lightweight and great traction. Just don't like the shoe laces

I had been eyeballing these shoes since I first heard of them and picked them up as soon as my local store had them in stock. This type of fit is perfect for me, it does have a narrow feel- which I retired my Topo's for these. With sizing- what I first noticed is the "toe puff" is more open in the toe box area, less of a rock guard- so I was able to go down a half size, normally I wear 10.5's as my right foot is just slightly longer than my left, with these shoes I'm able to go down a half size to a 10 and both feet feel fully supported with rubber in the right places. I'm not a big fan of the laces, but lock laces fixed that issue quickly and these Mont Blancs fit better than anything else I've worn.

I was very excited when I heard about these but became skeptical when I first tried them on. Being on the Red Team Altra provided me these at a discount. When I first tired them on the toe box gave me the warm and fuzzies like all the Altra's do with that footshaped toe box that gives my toes the room to splay naturally as I run. However I was a little concerned that the midfoot under the arch felt a little narrow. But when I actually ran in them this was a nonissue and they actually felt great. Some have been talking about the heel being loose and I did notice that, but it didn't actually bother me when I ran in them. I modified the lacing a bit and that locked it in sufficiently. So lets talk about that Vibram outsoles! These are Vibram's Litebase design and I've got to say they handled all the variety of trails I ran on with them quite well. Super grippy and gave me a sure footed nimble feel. Midsole- The Ego Max cushion felt super bouncy and springy. I was a little worried they might be too soft but they weren't at all. Gave me that perfect balance of cushion and responsiveness you want in any running shoe. Uppers- I feel like Altra did a great job giving you want you need and nothing you don't resulting in a super light breathable upper that seems to hold my foot in place and gives me great confidence in these on any terrain. LacingI changed up the lacing just a bit but overall I like the lacing system. Laces could be an inch longer but I still double knotted then without issue. Tongue I've heard many say it seemed short but when I actually ran in them it seems to hold in place and do it's job perfectly. Again my lacing method might have helped with that. Sizing I wear a men's 11.5 in all Altra and these were true to size. Overall, I really love the fit and feel of these. They make you want to run fast and they are hella comfortable. If I only had one pair of shoes these might be the ones I'd wantI could see running road in these nicely too. There seem to be some slight alterations that could be made but when actually put to use none of those issues seemed to actually be issues at all. I loved them and am now facing a crisis as to if I'm going to wear these for my 100 I plan to run next fall or the Olympus! Bottomline.you have to run in these shoes to see how wonderful they really are. After some initial concerns I'm totally sold on these.

This shoe has a fantastic amount of cushion underneath but is very reactive and almost springy. Great traction and Vibram underneath. Although the tongue is a little short, it is gusseted and has no slippage. this is the best I have ever experienced in a trail shoe!!

I've run 8 miles and 16 miles in the Mont Blanc shoe so far and I absolutely love them! They're such a nice ride, super grippy, perfect cushion that feels in between the Olympus and Timp, they fit my size 14 feet perfectly, they're so light and they look awesome! Get the laces right and this is the perfect ultra race shoe for me! Height: 6'3" Weight: 185lbs My normal race shoe is the Altra Olympus Disclaimer: I received these shoes at a discount but the review is completely honest.

I took these on an 18 miler right out of the box and followed up with another double-digit run. I am hoping these will be my go-to shoes this trail season and so far I think they will do the job. I will do a 50 miler in them next week. I like the width of the toebox as it is wide enough but doesn't feel sloppy. They will most likely need gaiters on some terrain but that is fine with me. I received these at a discount but after testing them out I would gladly pay fullprice.
