The new Timp 4 is my new go-to running shoe from Altra! Its lightweight, right amount of cushion and let's me do small/longer trails very comfortably. I have been a Lone Peak guy for a # of years and really loved how it let me feel the trail, yet provide me with comfort. Unfortunately, as I've gotten older (61), my feet need a bit more cushion, so I don't get fatigued or need to dial back effort/distance to not incur sore spots. I had tried Olympus @ the store but it was too much cushion (like Hokas) and was afraid I would be "removed" from the trail. Timp has the right amount and it has really helped motivate me to hit the paths! Only one small point (maybe cause they're new) but the tongue for one shoe rubs me, where my shorter running socks end. If I shift it to the side or wear longer socks, its fine but its definitely noticeable (leaves a mark) and I'll see if that shifts as the shoe breaks in. Otherwise, I am very happy with it!

I've tried timps in the past but never bought them because they felt too narrow. I tried the 4's and instantly liked them. Went on a 40 mile hike and they did good. The part that I hated was the tounge on both shoes kept sliding to the side. If it wasn't for that I would have given 5 stars.

I'm in love with the new Timp. The upper seems very durable (only have about 20 miles in them) yet comfortable. The ride is somewhat plush and still pretty responsive. I like the fit more than the Olympus 4 as I've been able to get a better lockdown. The foot shape is definitely a little more narrow than past Altras but in a good way, giving a more secure overall feel. I think this shoe does fills a lot of needs and can be used as a daily trainer for trails or even on race day for ultra distances.

Great show. In between the lone peak and Timp 3. For sizing I'd go with lone peak sizing. I ran 75 miles of a 100 miler in them and only switched because I was relegated to walking it in. Hopefully they hold up better than the Timp 3 but haven't had them long enough to have an opinion. Have about 100 miles on them but that's only from two runs!

I really like this shoe. In fact, I like it more than the Olympus 4! I don't have the altra foot type and the Timp 4s feel more like a traditional shoe with a little more room in the toe box. First run was a five-miler and wow, super comfy and stable. I got them in green and just might get a second pair for general hiking. The only negative is the price, but everything costs a little more these days... Run Happy All!!

The Timp 4 is a great shoe; not sure why people are complaining since it's not their original fit (Lone Peak, Olympus) and it's not a narrow last. But this has good "squirmy" cushioning from the EgoMax, a decent enough tread for a hybrid road to trail shoe, and good structure. I FAR prefer the Timp 4 to the new Mont Blanc model that had a too-short tongue, sloppy heel with slippage, and a weird fit in the toebox compared to the other ALTRAS (I also own LP5, LP6, Olympus 4). Now, would I love to see a Timp Pro version with some real VIBRAM traction? Sure, that would be great; slap that LiteBase version on this and you'd have a trail assassin. MaxTrac just doesn't have it on the wet stuff. But otherwise a great, comfortable shoe; ran a 13 mile trail/road trial run right out of the box and no issues. Very comfortable.

i use them for walking, light run & walking on dirt roads in VT. Great fit---BUT, they do fall apart much faster than any shoe I've owned. I'm on my third pair, and they all seem to have the same longevity. Please make them a bit stronger on the edges. The straight, flat, wide toe box has helped a pronation problem I developed from running with, narrow, curved, lifted running shoes--Thank you

This is the 2nd pair of timp 4 I've purchased. I use them for everyday use, they are geat shoes except for one thing, the out soles don't last, both pairs did the same thing and I've seen other reviews about the same problem. Not sure I would recommend this shoe because of this problem.

One shoe lace frayed apart after one week of very casual wear. Noticeably smaller than 2 prior Altras I have.

I've been a fan of the Altra brand since they came out. However the Timp 4 I'm not super thrilled with. The tongue slides to the right side of the shoe. I have to say I like the previous model better

Love these shoes and use them for urban walks, but first pair developed a tear in left mid toe section as someone else noted - returned them, got a new pair last April and now it has happened again.

I have hiked and backpacked 300 plus miles in my Timps. The only complaint I have is both shoes developed holes on the medial side of the greater toe joint where it joins the metatarsal. Otherwise, the shoes have been great. Since I wear a 15 there are few choices.

I've been searching for a shoe to fit my feet. Was measured at a local shop and told them I wanted to try a pair of altras.. I have flat feet so the wide to box was appealing. I've had these for 3 months give or take and there's already a finger sized hole worn on the outside of the right shoe.. now given I wear these for every day use, anywhere from 5-20 miles walking in the summer season a day. At first they were really comfortable, but slowly started to lose that relief over time.. I really wanted altras to be my forever brand, I hope that I can find a comfortable and durable pair of altras, but the brand search will probably continue unfortunately.

Loved a lot about this shoe, fit, feel, comfort, etc. however, I used this as my OCR race shoe for the 2022 year and had to dump them with only 100 miles as the soles were getting worn easily and the upper developed several holes.

I've had multiple pairs to Timps and am happy to come back for more. But the tongue on the Timp 4 bites into the front part of my ankle and gives me a nasty cut! I used a band aid for a few days, had some cross training, and developed tough scabs that are allowing me to keep wearing. Ouch! Fix this Altra!!

I love the comfort, wide toe box and cushioning. My favorite shoe! I bought them Feb 23 and by the end of April, they began to deteriorate; stitching coming loose & a hole near the toe guard on the left shoe. I walk 3 miles a day, most days, so they don't even have many miles on them yet. That's after 2 months of minimal wear. Thought I found the best shoe, but it seems they can't even hold up to short, simple walks! Disappointing!

i use my timp 4's for training and racing. this is my 2nd pair. 1st pair i bought in april 2022 and the 2nd on 11/6/ 2022. my suggestions- go back to the original foot shape as my new pair fell too tight in the toe box. also increase the toe box bumper as these shoes rip easily and my old pair have holes in the toes. also better padding in the heel as i wore a hole in the heel of the old shoes. the new timps have great traction and grip as i'm now running on icy and snowy trails. please send green patches for my green timps

This is a perfect shoe if not for how quickly it falls apart! I have been wearing LP's/Torins, for the last few years, I decided to try the Timp 4 for the trails. I blew out of the outside side of the first pair of shoe within 100 miles (1 month after purchasing them). In the exact same spot, everyone is having issues with. After I got them exchanged from my local running store, I am on the 2nd pair and its already fraying in the exact same spot in less than 100 miles. Such a bummer cause otherwise, this shoe is pretty dang comfortable for long days on the trail

I love the shoes and I really liked the look at them but the material they were made out of would never work where I live everywhere you walk here there are stickers and that kind of material picks up every sticker as you pass by it. So I returned them sorry

Coming from two pairs of Timp 2 that blew up on the upper, this was received as a warranty for one of them. Glad I didn't pay for these! The upper appears to be improved in durability, although it's also more flexible which probably contributed to reduced lockdown. The new midsole material is fantastic, very cushy and bouncy. Although after ~10 hours into a race they did feel flat. The outsole is where this all falls apart. Not sure why they rounded the edges of the lugs, or what they did to the "Maxtrac". They are still okay like this when new. But I have only 250km on mine, and the forefoot lugs are worn to almost nothing. Literally sliding everywhere when I wear them! Fit: The toebox is wider than the Timp 2, my forefoot is between a standard D and 2E and this was just wide enough that my toes would slide laterally. Heel lockdown is also inferior to the Timp 2 and is wider so my heel has some lateral slide. Fans of the old school Altras with clown-sized toeboxes may like this. Overall, they didn't work terribly well for me and gave me massive blisters on the side of the heels and side of the big toe during my last ultra. So my Timp 2 + replacement Timp 4 together can't even manage to get the mileage I get from a single pair of shoes in some other brands. Seriously looking at alternative footshaped/zero-low drop brands after this...

The shoe felt great. Ran a very comfortable 8 miles right out of the box. Unfortunately, while the shoe beneath emu feet felt great, the tongue dug into my skin just above my sock line. After scabs developed, I decided to return. Otherwise, they felt perfect. I don't write this as a negative review, but in hopes Altra change the tongue on this shoe and a few other models I've seen.

I really like how the look and love the material. Unfortunately went on a 5 mile trail run and my feet were aching towards the end of the run and the next 3 hours. I've never had to buy wide shoes but if this came in wide I would try it. Needless to say, I have to return them.
