Bought 4 bags (4 kids) a few years ago and only 1 is usable. Zipper broke on the other 3 and was told that was normal wear and tear.

The quality is not worth the price. After just over a year, the interior lining is already bubbling and peeling with just mild use. After reaching out to customer service, with detailed photos, I was told I could mail the backpack in to be evaluated which is a 2-3 week process. Basically, they no longer stand behind the quality of their products and have changed their policies. Previous LL Bean backpacks have lasted many years (and handed down to younger siblings) so it's such a bummer that this has changed.

This backpack was terrible. My daughter only used it for a few months before the seem along the front pouch zipper started fraying and coming out. Not the L.L.Bean quality I expected.

At first use, the mesh water bottle side holder pocket split from the elastic. Trying to patch myself. Will never purchase from this company again.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. The backpack does not support books well and accordions out making it extremely bulky and hard on the shoulders.

Bag tore in less than 6 months with minimum use by a 7 year old. Rude customer service and would not honor warranty.

This is the first back pack I have bought from LL Bean as I usually buy from one of their competitors (I have 8 children). We bought this back pack as a gift 4 months ago and the zipper has completely ripped away from the fabric. She was not over loading it, she was not abusing it. This is from everyday use in 6th grade. Will never buy a backpack from this company again.

I had previously bought the same backpack and was very pleased with it. This one however kept getting the zipper caught.

I have been a loyal customer and have always bought your backpacks and lunchboxes for my children. And I carried them growing up too. I am more than disappointed that this new backpack I just got for my son is already having issues. The side pocket is ripped and the zipper on the main area is stuck. Really? For the money I paid, this is ridiculous. And not at all up to the standards and quality you are known for. I am really frustrated.

My son has had this book bag for 2 1/2 weeks and the zipper has broken already. So aggravating.

The mesh pockets on this book bag do not hold up. We have had two of these book bags and within just a few weeks, the pockets had torn on both. We then received extremely poor customer service when trying to have it repaired or replaced. Would not recommend!

Unfortunately, I was sent a defective backpack that broke in less than a year of less than normal use. As you can see it is in great condition aside from the defective water bottle holders. Too bad I won't be able to replace it, as otherwise I really liked it for my son.

This design is a real disappointment. The shoulder straps are positioned so close together that they cut into your neck. My 11-year-old found this incredibly uncomfortable. I tried it on, and she is right. It is not usable. This is just basic ergonomics. It's frustrating to pay return shipping for this kind of design flaw. My son has the super deluxe version, and the straps on that backpack are proportioned for a human body. Why aren't they on this one?

I got this backpack for my son and we loved it until the zippers for the large compartment kept on getting stuck in the fabric. I'm returning it and I hope LLBean takes it back and gives me a refund.

This backpack lasted one week before the zipper got caught on the decorative trim. Because the zipper mechanism was pinched between the plastic interlocking teeth of the zipper and the trim (intended to hind the zipper) the back pack was not able to be opened. In an attempt to free the mechanism and open the pack, my 12-year-old was able to tear the zipper mechanism through the plastic interlocking teeth. The result is that the teeth are seriously damaged so the backpack can't be closed and remains open and incapable of holding the contents. Zippers commonly get pinched. I remember owning an ll bean pack as a kid. The trim feature would commonly get pinched on the trim and cause issues in opening and closing the pack however it wouldn't destroy the zipper if forced open. It seems this pack is now using inferior materials for the zipper.

I've always been a huge fan of LL Bean Backpacks until recently. I purchased a deluxe backpack for my daughter and the strap became detached from the bag itself only after a few months of owning. I sent it back to be replaced or fixed and ended up getting charged for a defected item. When I called to ask why I was being charged to replace a defected item, the customer service rep was very rude and not helpful.

Very disappointed with this product. I am about to return the 2nd pack. The first one started to come apart at the seams. The second one has a severe zipper failure. Items were not abused. Just typical use and both times failed. Product is garbage. Going to find another brand for good reasons.

I loved this backpack for about a month. It was roomy, comfortable and looked good. Unfortunately, none of these make up for poor quality, and the seam on the shoulder strap started coming apart after about a week of full time usage. This is made for students, and I take a lot more care of my things than most school-age kids, so I can't imagine this backpack lasting long with daily school use.

My 3 children have used LL Bean book packs since they started preschool at 2 years old. They started with the Jr. book pack and in 4th grade got the larger, deluxe book pack to fit their larger books. After 7 years of using the jr. bag year round for both school and camp my son got the larger bag and used it for 2 years. At the beginning of this year the zipper got stuck and while trying to get it unstuck the zipper became disconnected. I brought it into the store and they said there was nothing I could do except buy another one. I guess they don't make them like they used to and they no longer stand behind their products. Very disappointed customer. I will never buy from LLBean again.

The strap to this backpack broke on the very first day of my daughter's first day of middle school as the bus was coming. We expected more from an LL Bean product. She was already extremely nervous, and this just started her off on the wrong foot.

Let me start by saying that I still have my original LL Bean school backpack from thirty years ago, so I am more than a little dismayed that none of the three backpacks we purchased less than two years ago will be making the return trip to school this fall. The backpacks have experienced continual zipper breakages, and two have exhibited tearing where the strap meets the body of the pack. An attempt to have the local LL Bean store repair the defects has proven unsuccessful, as we were told that fixing the issues "were no longer their policy."
