My 5th grader used this backpack for less than 3 weeks and the loop on the top is already ripped. Going to return and reorder it and hopefully the next one is higher quality. We have had all different brands of backpacks over the years between our family of 4 and this has been the fastest any backpack has shown quality issues. Pretty disappointed. And the customer service "help" has been disappointing as well. This may be my last LL Bean purchase.

Super disappointed at the quality of the top handle. It came off during the first week of school. It was brand new. I expected better from L. L. Bean and the price.

Broken zippers and torn seams from very normal to and from school use. Applying quality. Maybe it used to be better before they adjusted the warranty.

Bought this for beginning of school year. Quality has DRASTICALLY gone down. Cheap materials, not worth the money. Ended up ordering online, a cheaper backpack and when received was far superior quality. Look other places, these backpacks are not worth the money anymore.

My daughter is moving up to high school and was very excited to choose her L.L. Bean backpack for these years (per tradition started with my siblings and myself). We flipped through the color choices and she immediately chose this as it appears to be her favorite color. We were extremely disappointed when it arrived as it is purple and not at all the color that is displayed on the screen. We didn't notice until it arrived that it was listed as lavender. It looks nothing like the advertised color which I'm sure others will bar their purchase on. I know have a $65 purchase that will likely go unused since she doesn't like the actual color. Hope you can fix the website photo before someone else makes the same mistake!

Bought this bag for the '24-'25 school year. Around January the zipper started getting stuck. I would fiddle with it and finally getting it working again. This started happening every week. Finally, while my son was at school, he had an accident. The teachers couldn't open his backpack to get his extra clothes so they ended up trying to cut the part of the fabric under the zipper. They accidentally clipped the zipper with it and now the bag is useless. I expected much better quality from the brand.

I bought this bag for my daughter in 7th grade. Told her we'd spend the money for a quality bag that will hopefully last her into high school! She is now in 8th grade. We first replaced the bag after a month because the water bottle holder had a hole form real fast. LL Bean was quick to respond and replace. But when a second hole formed in her replacement bag, I had my daughter just live with it. But NOW her strap is ripping too! Very pretty bag with great space for all her things. But the bag does not hold up.

Normally these book bags are great but the last one I bought has the loop broke after one week of use. My daughter says she is required to hang it by the loop at school so she can't use it anymore.

My daughter got this backpack for Christmas in December 2021. Less than three years later, the mesh water bottle pockets are ripping. She is extremely careful with her things, very responsible and not rough on backpacks. This is absolutely not the quality I have come to appreciate from LL Bean over my many years of purchasing. I have had this same model of backpack of my own in purple for literally 31 years. It is still going strong. So to have one be falling apart after less than three years is very disappointing.

These used to be great backpacks. Whoever on the R & D team chose the key leash clip should be fired. Snapped after the first try, took it into the flagship store for a return/replacement. Customer service was great, replaced it, and tried the clip on the replacement backpack, snapped in two right in front of the cashier. Do better LLBean. I'm losing faith in more of your merchandise. Zippers are poor quality.

Two of the 4 I bought already have lost their handles, after less than 1 month of use.

After less than a week of use the strap broke on the backpack. My son had a LL Bean bag for years and it was still in one piece but he asked for an upgrade. With the amount of years he had it we got him a brand new one. He used it for less than a week and the strap broke.

My 7 year old has been using this backpack less than a month and it's falling apart. The fabric at the top of the bag is completely torn away at the seam, near the straps. Customer service told me I could return it?? I don't want to return my child's monogrammed backpack. I want one that isn't destroyed.

LL Bean Design Team, We implore you to please bring back this backpack (Deluxe) in Hunter green and/or Kelley green. My son wants one in green but you only have mint and now this multi colored one called Thyme. Please bring back that old classic designed one in a green that is suitable for boys!!

I LOVE LL Bean backpacks. I've had 4 since I was a kid and I'm in my 30s now. I was so excited to see the pink/mauve color, it's my favorite color. But when my backpack arrived, I realized it's purple, not pink. I've already had TWO ll bean packs this same purple color. I was so disappointedI wanted something different. Would not have purchased if I knew it was the same purple I had in middle school two times already.

Loop to hang up bag ripped the first day my daughter used it. Llbean quality is no longer what it used to be. These bags used to last forever. Now they can't even get through 24 hours without failing apart. Save your time and money, look elsewhere.

1st the mesh side pocket had come loose from stitching. They easily replaced it. 2nd came with poorly sewed zipper so that one corner you have to force it. Gave up returning thinking just another problem. Never saw these quality issues years ago.

I purchased this last year for my middle schooler, and the zipper busted after daily use. He's not excessively tough on items, just normal wear and tear. Expensive for poor quality.

my son used the same back back from LL bean from K-5. I thought it was time to upgrade the size since he was going into middle school and would be carrying much more. We bought this bag. I had high hopes it would get him through 3 years before we needed to upgrade. I was wrong. Within 2 months the water bottle netting became loose. by Spring break it had started to seperate at the seams. I did a chat with CS and they said it was replaceable. I had to go back to CT in april so I brought the bag with me since I live out of state. I was immediately told i do not quilify for a replacement because I abused the bag (the bag only had folders, a laptop, and a martial arts uniform every other week ). Then I was told because the bag inside lining was flaking, its not covered. These are the reasons I said it was defective. Buyer beware, they dont always honor the warranty.

With risk of sounding old. They are not made like they used to. I purchased a deluxe for my 8 year old son in Aug of 2022. We started having issues with the zipper at the beginning of last school year (Aug 2023) but with care, could manage zipping it. By May of this last school year it had completely broken will not zip. They do not offer replacement or even repair for a charge. Incredibly disappointed that we paid that much for it to break so soon. Will not be purchasing from them again.

My husband had an LL Bean backpack that lasted him about 10 years - so we had no doubts when we bought them for our kids in their Kindergarten year. My son made it almost half way through first grade before his was completely toast. Holes worn through, the zipper had been badly caught so many times that it cut through and finally the zipper gave up. When I inquired about a replacement I was told that they only replace for up to ONE YEAR now. So - if you're thinking it's a worthwhile 'investment', it just isn't anymore. They are clearly meant to be used for one year now which just makes it an expensive backpack.

I bought a month ago and the bag is coming apart about 4 inches. Loved the 1st one I bought for last school year, but this one which is the same bag is made cheap. Cost too much to tear up like this!! Too large and too much trouble to send back. Very unhappy customer!
