This is an awesome backpack. One cautionthe zipper sometimes gets stuck in the zipper cover. Best if you flap it back before unzipping

I love LLBean book bags. They are the best! The only reason I give this 4 stars is because the fabric hangover for the zipper continually gets caught in the zipper. We have already had to send it back once, but LLBean was wonderful with handling the issue.

This is a great bag except for the mesh water bottle holders on the sides. So many customer complaints and reviews of this ripping, it obviously a design flaw and also appears cheap. I do not use the mesh inserts and just slide my water bottle into the bag itself because of this. Why not design this bag like the Original Backpack or the other backpacks LLB makes where the bag material is used instead of mesh? This is a much stronger option and no complaints on those bags. I hope LLB listens to its customers and redesigns this for next year.

Very nice quality and faster than expected shipping (even with monogram). However, the color was different than expected. We chose the vintage lavender expecting it to be the mauve color shown. It's much more purple in person. Pretty, but not what we expected.

Had one as a kid now I get one for my daughter

I ordered this for my kindergartener. He wanted a bigger backpack for hauling all the winter gear to and from school to daycare to home each night. The zippers are durable and so many pockets for all the things. However, I'm disappointed that one of the bottle holders has a hole and is ripping. He carries one 12oz plastic reusable bottle each day. For the price, I guess I expected greater durability overall.

We don't have many choices for girls to choose from. The plum color that is available looks more like a maroon or a wine color. I'm sure many girls besides myself would love to see you give us more shades of blue to change from, especially sky blue. It was a color that wasn't too dark to pick up lint or too light which would pick up dirt. It was a beautiful shade of blue that girls could choose if they didn't want to go with navy blue or royal blue. If you aren't able to bring back sky blue, could you please give us a shade of blue that is very close to that same shade of blue. I'd love to see the water bottle holder being made like the smaller kids water bottle pocket, because they'd be less likely to get holes in them. I'd also like to see the original reflexive tape on the front of the bag to go back to being like they once were. I had super deluxe book bag in high school and the reflective tape was already pilling off several weeks school had started.

Everything is great except the zipper to the main compartment gets stuck in the fabric a lot. I'm able to get it unstuck after a few seconds of patience, but the bag is for my 9-year old to use as his book bag, and he's not able to get it unstuck. Otherwise, it's a great bag. Seems very durable and we love all the pockets and compartments. If not for the zipper frequently getting stuck I'd give it an enthusiastic 5 stars.

The material is slick not rugged giving it a cheap look compared with other backpacks. But it is durable, strong and has enough compartments for my high school son. Love it.

I thought I would give my 2cents in comparing these 2 bags for travel. The Original bag I use everyday for work since it's the perfect size for my needs. The Deluxe is too large. For travel I have embraced minimal packing that has to fit under the seat in front of me, rather than pay for the overhead storage. Last year my family & I took a 4 day trip to FL on Allegiant Airlines. While the rest chose to put bags in the overhead, I chose to use my Original LLBean work bag which slid under the seat beautifully. In it was packed: jeans x1, shirt x1, Tshirts-underwear- socks x2 each, phone charger, rain jacket, rolled up wide brim hat, flip flops, & quart size bag of toiletries. Carrying it was a breeze. I also rinsed a few things in the hotel room. Four months later I had need to make a 2nd trip to FL for 2 nights same airline. I decided to try the Deluxe bag & for the sake of a comparison test, it was packed with the same amount of clothing. The only change was putting the flip flops in the 2nd zipper section. Because of the depth of about 2.5" more, the bag did not slide as easily under the seat, but I finally managed it in. I found that I preferred the outside horizontal zipper pocket on the Original which was easier to put items in & was deeper. The slanted design on the Deluxe was limited on what could be put into it. Also why does LLB not have cinch straps on their deeper bags? They are on the Quad pack which is the same depth as the Original, but the bags that are 2-3" deeper, these bags hang down to you buttocks, as Forrest Gump would say. I also found the waist strap on the Deluxe to be useless, but a chest strap would be great. So overall, when flying I prefer the Original because it fits within the dimensions for a personal item that can be put under the seat. It does the job without the high price being charged for specialty travel bags.

This is the 3rd book pack that I have purchased. My son loves it and it seems sturdy. The only issue that I have is that the flap of material gets stuck in the zipper. I am having to work with my son on taking his time zipping up his back pack so that the material does not get caught in the zipper.

I wish that there was an "in between" size from the Junior Deluxe and this one. The Junior one is much too much small for my 1st grader will be bringing home work and need to pack a change of clothes for sports after school, but this one is HUGE on him. And I got it embroidered, so I'm stuck with it. We'll see how he does with it.

I have bought backpacks from your company for many years, I needed a new one. So I was near one while I was on vacation and I went to see what the store had. When looking to buy something it is better to see it in person if you can, many years ago I ordered a backpack and it was not the right size, it was for a kid, not an adult. So that is why I went in to the store together help and to pick the right size pack for me.

I really liked this backpack, It has three zippered pockets. Great organization. Light weight. Also fit well ( I'm 5"2).I use it daily to carry work home daily. Good for laptop and notebooks bag.

The book bag is wonderful! For the first time I had it monogrammed. My son's name is Sam and it was crooked. All the letters did not line up straight. I was a little disappointed in that.

My oldest son has this backpack and it is fantastic for him. Bombproof for school, scouts, and summer camp. However for an adult the straps are just too small. The bag itself is bigger than some of the adult backpacks LL Bean sells. The straps are not long enough both shoulder and waist for an adult (I am 6ft tall). If this back had longer straps it would be a 5 star bag. I remember as a kid we all got LL Bean book bags and they lasted Elementary School through College. If LL Bean doesn't make the straps longer like the old days everyone will have to buy a new backpack in High school.

I have no issue whatsoever with the book pack other than the color. The purple turned out to be more lavender and not really an appropriate color for my son. Unfortunately, it was monogrammed so I cannot return it for a different color.

My son has had LL Bean bags since he began kindergarten. He is now 6th grade and it was finally time to upgrade to something that could carry all his books and his lunch.

Bought this for my grandson. It seems to be of good quality material and workmanship. If it had a chest strap across the front i would have given it 5 stars. A chest strap is really needed, especially for younger children.

Great bag. My 6 year old initially complained the straps were too close to each other at the neck-end, so the straps were pinching his neck. No complaints after that day, so all good now I guess :)

I ordered this backpack after the previous one had the zipper break after 2 years. It was always getting stuck in the fabric and finally completely broke. This backpack was great, fit everything 7th grade son needed, so he wanted the same one. Sadly, it is missing the headphone port, which is his favorite part of his old backpack. I am not sure why they took this out, but we might return it as that was the only reason he wanted this one over the Jansport or other models that are a bit more popular at his middle school.

This backpack lasts, does not fall apart. The only improvement needed he zippers get stuck in the material on a regular basis. Improve this please is been a problem since we started buying this item 11 years ago.

I bought the navy in this book bag and it is just beautiful. Has a nice shimmer to it. This bag for the money is VERY well made and holds ALOT. The only problem I had are the straps are very padded (that's a good thing), but they are very stiff at the same time. They "cut" into my shoulders even with clothing on; was worse when bag was loaded down. The super deluxe version of this bag has the "flatter" padded straps which are more comfortable. Due to the absence of retaining straps on the side, this bag does drop down/drag backwards when loaded. But this is where the difference in cost shows up from more expensive bags within the LLBean line. I am tossing around whether I am going to keep it. SUCH a great price, well made, and beautiful color, but the straps might be the kicker for me.

We love these backpacks! I purchased one for my son and a printed for my daughter. My son was very disappointed that the font he chose was not the font printed on the bag when he received it. Function wise, however, they are wonderful so far!
