Good size and not too big. Straps might be a little wide. He can put on and wear the backpack all by himself, and he is 5 years old!

I bought this pack 6 years ago, in a pink butterfly print, when my daughter entered kindergarten. She has used it every day of elementary school (minus a Covid year) and it still looks great. It has also been used on weekend scout trips and regularly overstuffed with plush toys to take to grandma's house. Only replacing it now for a larger backpack for middle school.

Bought this for my 2 1/2 yr old daughter to take on a Flight from NY to India, and keep her things in during the flight. So cute (we got the Rainbow Flower Print) and we had her Name monogrammed onto it. It's nice sized for her, and she is so proud to carry this backpack! All of our kids have had LLBean backpacks!

This backpack is for a backpack collection for local students. I purchased this for a pre-schooler. The colorful polka dots were a hit when I showed my granddaughters. Sturdy and easy to use zippers. Good size for a 4 year old. I am pleased to donate this nice quality backpack.

Rainbow dots bag is adorable! The 5 year old loved it & her mom loved that it had a side pocket for a water bottle! She's now ready for kindergarten!

We bought this backpack 3 years ago and I couldn't be happier. It is simple but sometimes that is better. My nephew has gone through 4 backpacks in that time and this one has never given us an issue. My son has used it from 4 year preschool through first grade and we are planning on still using it for second grade. Not a single tear or zipper issue in all this time. The main pocket is large enough to hold my sons folders and his snow pants, and the smaller pocket is great for snacks. I love that it has a water bottle pouch on the side. Some might like a second larger pocket but honestly I think it would just lead to my buddy not being able to find things as quickly. My 3 year old starts preschool this coming fall and I'm already looking at the patterns to buy her one of her own.

A must for preschool and beyond! This is the second backpack we have bought. The first one was for our older daughter and still going strong after three years and she's rough on stuff! This one is for our younger daughter who is elated to have one just like her big sis! Sturdy, durable and worth every penny.

I like that the cupholders are fabric. I imagine the size should last until 1st or 2nd grade.
