Being somewhere between a 12 and 13 with wide feet is often a nuisance for finding comfortable fitting shoes, so I'm glad these game in a 12.5 wide option.

I got these for a trail race. Only got to put five miles on em before the race. I ran a 26.5 mile race with these. No blisters and no hot spots. The outsole was grippy and handled scrambling and bouldering without issue. The toe protector provided adequate protection. Despite not having a rock plate, there's enough cushioning to minimize sharp rocks poking the feet. I liked the toe box. It was more roomy than my Peregrines and Cascadias but not as wide as Altra. The only change I would hope is made in future iterations is that they reduce the drop from 8mm to 4mm. That may be personal preference as I find the lower drop more comfortable for long races.

One thing I enjoyed the Hierros are the roomy toe box. I think that important because it helps in minimizing blisters. The bounce also in these shoes help with the energy transfer too.

Very happy with these shoes, I use them for hiking on mud and gravel trails. Finding a shoe in 12.5 is a bonus, most brands skip from 12 to 13 which doesn't work for me.

These new V7 Hierros are the absolute best. I wear a 11.5 wide in the 1080V11s and got the same size which fit great. Phenomenal shoe for the price.

Shoes are very comfortable and supportive. Good traction and very easy to break in.

I purchased these to go hiking. The maiden voyage was a moderate hike, many stairs, rocks, narrow trails. The shoes were comfortable and provided a good stable traction throughout the hike. I ordered online and based the size on another pair of New Balance shoes I own. They fit as expected.

I wear New Balance 2E running shoes. This model is much narrower than the road models I wear. Disappointing as it seems like a good trail shoe.

I own about 10 pairs of three different year models these shoes so I obviously love them. I ordered this particular color and was very disappointed with the shade. The description says “Electric Red” but I would call it more of a Salmon or Pink. It’s definitely not Red. So back they went. It’s the first time I didn’t like the color on a pair of these shoes.

The sizing was almost too small, for comparison, the 940 pair I got from the same manufacturer a year ago was perfect, these are just OK.

The toe box takes some time to break in but they are a very comfortable shoe. I am between an 11 and 11.5 and had to go 11.5 on these.

This is my first pair of NB shoes. I primarily use them for hiking here in northern Arizona. The Fresh Foam is softer than what I prefer but is tolerable. One thing I really like about them is that the footbed is flat, not curved, with the lacing holding my feet securely. The toe box is too narrow but again is tolerable. The upper is thin and comfortable but according to some (my wife), looks a bit wrinkled. There's a flap on the sole at the heel which doesn't seem to be necessary but doesn't cause any problems. Initially there was a problem with heel lock but as the the shoes have loosened up they are much more secure. I need a wide and the shoe is wider throughout the footbed but I would prefer a wide forefoot and narrow heel. That about wraps it up. Good shoes, true to size.

Shoes are great, but when ordering online if you normally get wide width, make sure you select the 4E option or they maybe a bit narrow on your feet.

The overall show is made very well. It look and feel sturdy. Maybe a little too sturdy/stiff. I was expecting more cushioning and breathability. It is a great shoe but hope to find something more soft and breathy for my feet..

I've been wearing the New Balance 1540 model running shoe for decades. They have great stability... I wear an orthotic. But... they do not have good traction for walking/jogging/running trails.i did some online searching and decided to try this shoe. They're super comfortable! Great traction... I'm impressed so far. The only thing lacking... for me... is the stability of the 1540. Now... if New Balance mad a 1540 (I preferred the V2 over the now V3) with the sole of the FOAM FRESH X HIERRO MTHIERP7... I'd be super impressed. I have flat size 15 feet with pronation issues and I'm 6'2" ... I wear an orthotic and I need the support of the 1540. So... the Foam Fresh I'm reviewing is a great shoe and it has amazing traction and comfort but not the best stability for me. That is the only reason I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars... lacks stability of a bigger runner wearing orthotics.

THE SHOES ARE GREAT FOR MY WALKS, BUT ANNOYED A LITTLE THAT THE SHOES ARE NOT AS EASILY PUT ON AS LAST PAIR OF NEW BALANCE SHOES. THEY ARE MADE IN VIET NAM, AND MAYBE THERE STANDARD FOR WIDE IS NOT THE NORMAL FOR NEW BALANCE. I HAVE WORN ONLY NEW BALANCE SHOES FOR EXERCISE FOR ALMOST 40 YEARS. LIKE THE BRAND, BUT IN THIS CASE TROUBLED A LITTLE BY THE FIT. STILL BETTER THAN WHAT I WOULD GET FROM A COMPETATOR'S SHOES.

I bought these shoes at a store in town and I love them. They have a nice snug feel that keeps your feet in place when going down steep declines and also the end of the shoe feels nice for your toes to rest on. The traction is very good I never slipped on any slippery rocks when hiking. I would recommend buying these for whatever adventure you go on. The fresh foam x feels very nice it's not to squishy but it absorbs bumbs and rocks well. I have a pair of 1080 v10s and I like those but they are way to squishy to use every day. I hope this review helps you guys and I would recommend going to try them on first. I normally fit in a 11.5 for vans shoes but I got a size 11 for these shoes just so I had no absurd amount of feet movement in the shoe.

i walk an average 10-15 miles a week on groomed, loose gravel trails the shoes are comfortable on these types of trails. both going up & down hills I do not recommend on hard surfaces i.e. blacktop or compacted pea gravel

The version 6 was heavier, but it had a less aggressive outsole, still has vibram megagrip, but the treads were not as deep as the V7. I used the V6 as a road to trail shoe, the weight I did not notice, the grip is good, the cushioning is like a pair of soft slippers. The fresh foam X midsole is like the 1080 road shoe, very soft and comfortable for my bad knees. I like the V6 so much I bought 6 pair to keep in my running rotation...really ...yes I bought 6 pairs! I dont think the new V7 aggressive outsole will work on pavement? Somebody will let me know if it does?

I keep trying other shoes and I keep coming back to NB. Really appreciate a true fitting wide model and the great colors. Since I have Haglund's syndrome on one heel, though, I would like to see a soft heel cup design like the old Nike Free or even the flyknit.

These feel amazing! So much cushion and bounce in a trail shoe. It is stunning how much shoe technology and construction has improved in recent years. And the newer versions of the Hierro seem to be less wide and have less volume than earlier versions. Please, New Balance, you are the only game in town for trail runners who need wide and extra wide shoes and need the higher volume. Hopefully you will add back some volume in subsequent versions.
