I would've given this 4.5 or even 4.75 stars if that were possible. There were really only a couple of smallish things. The one functional issue was the somewhat loose cuffs - I think this can have a significant effect on warmth, and I live in northern Minnesota so that's a concern. The non-functional issue was color. "Mineral red" is really close to orange, which I have an aversion to. So I sent it back and was disappointed, since I had a (true red) jacket like this maybe 10-12 years ago and loved it.
Otherwise, it's great. I got a M petite which fit fine (I am 5-3 and 135-140 pounds). There would be room for a warm sweater or fleece underneath.

Warm, cozy and lightweight. I didn't give 5 stars because the packable pocket it too small to be of any real use.

Love my new coat, have gotten nice comments about it and very warm (winter in Maine). Not the same sizing as the previous down coat from LLBean that I bought 4 years ago (or so). The large was too big and had to exchange, but the process was easy. Love that this one has a hood.

I love this coat. It is light weight and warm. The only issue I have is that I went one size larger than I normally do and it is noticeably a bit large. I would rather have it too big than too small though.

I bought this coat to replace an older 850 down that the feathers had started coming out and I was getting laughed at by my family for my trail of feathers. I will say the coats are similar, but not the same. This one is a little longer than the previous one and louder as the outer fabric seems different. The warmth seems the same. I miss the zipper pocket in the inside, but the outside has zippers so that is good. This one also has lots of labeling signifying it is an LLBean coat. Not sure why the excessive advertising, my prior one had a subtle label in only one spot. All in all, warm and great, but I liked the older one better and wish the feathers weren't flying out. :)

Very warm and light. The zipper could be two way and a bit more substantial.

I love almost everything about this coat. Comfy, just the right weight to toss on over a T-shirt and run outside. Hood isn't too bulky. Sleeve cuffs aren't tight and annoying. Excellent length. But the upper arms are like they're made for another jacket. Too narrow, and make layering impossible. Good for walking, but too restrictive for hiking and moving around a lot.

It is lovely but I have only worn it 2 weeks and the feathers are already coming out.

I loved the version of this coat from three years ago. I accidentally ripped it and it's been a challenge to repair, so I wanted to buy a new one, but the cuffs on this jacket aren't fleece anymore. The elastic on this one isn't nearly as comfortable. Bring the fleece cuffs back!

I bought this jacket last week and have worn it every day since, for everyday wear and on a hike. It's lightweight but warm, my family says it's "slimming", and the pattern of the puff is cute. The only reason I give it 4 stars at this point is because it does not stuff into its pocket easily. I don't know if I just haven't figured out how to do it correctly but I've had trouble with the packing part so far.

This is my second jacket. Good quality, but I think it runs a little large for a XS Petite size.

I just bought the dark blue jacket and it looks great. Super light and good for travel. My only negative is that the elastic cuffs are a bit too snug. My size is XS reg. so I'm stretching the cuffs with tennis balls in the sleeves.

Love this jacket. I would have given it a 4.5 but the form wouldn't allow it. The only thing I would change is the zipper - it doesn't have a two-way zipper. Otherwise it is pretty perfect!

I purchased this jacket because of the hood. I have its cousin without the hood, and I am warmer on blustery days with a hood.
Let me begin by saying that I love the jacket, but these new lightweight nylon jackets are, in my opinion, not the warmest for temps in the teens and below. ( That may be different if you are active, like walking or shoveling, etc)
850 down is only a label for weight, the warmth comes from the size of the baffles that contain the down and the amount of space to trap air.( I have an 850 down sweater style jacket from Bean and the tiny baffles make it only suitable for Fall weather in the northern states, like mine, Ohio.)
The hood on this jacket is great! It is large enough to cover your head and ears without falling in your eyes like some of the other jackets.
I purchased the plum color/magenta color with the teal accents and it is beautiful.
This jacket is not, in my opinion, windproof, so you definitely want to layer under it. For those of you who have long arms, this jacket has a nice length sleeve. I like my sleeve length to be at my wrist, and this was a little longer than that on me ( size large), which the hood less jacket did not have.
There have been a lot of cons written about the outer material of these nylon jackets. So when you buy one remember that they can snag, most are packable and light, so they are not as durable as the other heavier materials out there.
I find the jacket perfect for whatever I need to do in the winter without staying out in the cold for long periods of time. That's just me, and I do get cold easily.
A plus is that spills wash off easily. There is also a drawstring at the bottom if you want your jacket to have a less straight or boxy look.

Love the jacket, ripped a hole in outer elbow in first week on metal doorjam and patched it with Gear Aid.

I want to absolutely love this jacket, particularly because it was an investment. While I like it, I wish it fit a little looser so I can wear a sweater underneath. I wear a size 20-22 but I ordered a 3x so I could wear layers. It does zip up fortunately, but it is snug and far too snug to wear layers. So I recommend sizing up and perhaps more than one size if you like bulky sweatshirts or sweaters.

I bought the L.L. Bean 850 Ultralight Down jacket as my sub-outer layer for my winter hiking and snowshoeing, the outer layer being the Women's Gortex Pro Patroller jacket. This jacket alone is great in colder temps and even has decent protection from wind. It has two decent size pockets and an inside chest pocket and packs down into one of the pockets (10"x6"x5") for space-saving in your backpack or luggage. The petite size was the right choice for me (5'2"). The jacket is incredibly lightweight (13.2 ounces) so it's great for hiking! Overall I am very happy with my purchase!

An awesomely warm jacket I bought after my husband raved about the warmth of his Ultralight down 850 jacket. It keeps me very warm and I love being able to roll it into it's own pocket for travel. My only complaint is that at 5'9" the jacket is a little short and sometimes allows some exposure at the bottom

This is a great warm but ultralight jacket! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that even though it is size Petite XS it is still a little longer on my sub-5-foot frame than I would like.

Loved the jacket, only I ordered size too large.
Change my mind and returning.

I like it, but I wonder if they sent me the men's version instead. The zipper is on the wrong side. The medium, which I usually wear was too big. The small is fine, but it's a little boxy.

This is a great warm jacket like the men's. We bought them together and the men's gets a five star but the women's does not have the breast pocket for a phone making it not as functional.

Fits well, haven't tried outside yet, but seems warm! Although "ultralight," it packs up a bit bigger than expected! But, better too warm than cold!
