I bought this because of the simple design that's almost a little retro (?). Received the coat today but not sure if I am going to keep it, it runs really big. Definitely size down if you're between sizes or smaller on top - it runs large in the shoulders and chest.

I'm usually a size medium so I decided to get a large so I'd have room to layer underneath. When I got the jacket it was huge! I returned it and got a small and it's still a little roomy, but overall I'm happy with the fit. It also helps that you are able to cinch the waist. So far, it has been warm enough for cold and windy Wisconsin weather at approx 20 degrees F.

Very nice parka,,,, EXCEPT runs really big.... Small fits my chest.. BUT waist is huge even after cinching it in,, then it still looked big....Don't think this item is good for small frame gals. Returning...

The coat is warm and keeps the wind out. Not too long and not too short. Fit is good for me as I like to wear sweaters in the winter and the coat allows this without getting too tight or making me look like a stuffed bag of potatoes.
The reason I said almost perfect is the hood needs the ability to adjusted front to back so it doesn't cover my eyes. Also, while the cuffs can be adjusted with snaps, I miss the knitted cuffs from my previous LLBean down parkas
Other than the above, I certainly recommend this coat.

This coat was big on me and I normally wear an XSP. The XXSP fits more like a relaxed SP, so it is not a fitted coat. I was hoping for a fitted and shape flattering coat but this was not it so I'll have to return it as there are no smaller sizes. It's a really nicely made coat though. The pockets have internal zipper pockets to store things which is amazing. The hood comes down over your forehead and won't blow off. Overall it's a great jacket but not at all pretty on.

I just received my jacket, and sent it through the gentle wash cycle to get it ready to wear. I chose it because it has the 2 way zipper that has been left off many jackets that would have had them in the past.
---
I was also looking for a really warm jacket, either down or synthetic, with a hood. Many of the choices are not insulated enough for being outside for very long.
---
I think the desgners put too much emphasis on the complicated snap and Velcro technique to attach the ends of the hood - Velcro sticks before lining up the snap. I rarely remove a removable hood, and since this one was such a pain, I probably won't do it again until I wash it.
---
On the other hand, it would have been nice to put a little more thought into the cuffs on the sleeves. Tightening the strap and snapping creates a gap that seems awkward. Not sure why they didn't just use Velcro.
---
I was also hoping that washing it would relax the crease down the outer edges of the sleeves where down is lacking due to the shipping fold. Hopefully it will get better with use.
---
It is replacing my much better quality, warm Bean's Penobscot down jacket that I've had for 12+ yes. It is still in great shape, but the zipper separates. Wish that style was still available. Not as happy with the length of the new one either.
---
Hopefully it will grow on me, and be warm enough for the really cold and blizzardy days.

My husband bought me this jacket for Christmas in my size, M. It is the perfect length and warm. The first time I wore it, I noticed these little white whisker-like things on the sleeves and an occasional feather. Because it was new I thought it just needed to settle. After wearing a 3rd time, I noticed more feathers and my car seat, which is black, is covered in whiskers and feathers. The reason I gave 3 stars, in addition to the feathers, is because I couldn't wear anything heavier than a long sleeve jersey under it. Sadly, I'm going to have to return it.

I bought this coat and though I like the fit and style it does not keep me warm in 30-40 degree weather. I can feel the chill come through the coat.

While it was less expensive than the others, i returned it. The zipper was moody, the pockets weren't deep enough (for phone or gloves and when I cinched the waist, it was too high (medium) and therefore, uncomfortable. It was warm enough. Disappointed. I didn't need an artic blast coat. Those were $150-200 more

I actually really liked the warmth & weight of this coat. However there were a few things I just couldn't accept. First - the zipper & this was the deciding factor on returning the coat. I've had 2-way zippers my entire adult life & I've never had a zipper constantly get stuck/caught on fabric. It was a constant hassle to zip up & down EVERY single time I wore it. It never zipped smoothly. Next the pockets- way too shallow. You can't even get an iPhone in there. I prefer a large patch pocket & saw these were different but had I known they were so shallow I never would've purchased the coat. Lastly, which had the previous two items not been an issue I'd still have kept the coat, but feathers were constantly popping out of the coat. We've had below zero temps in northern MI & it kept me warm. It's unfortunate about the zipper

This parka is very warm but the snaps down the front are very difficult to close. My main complaint is that I wish that there was a tall version, as the sleeves are slightly too short for me and the hood doesn't fit properly. Please LL Bean, make more clothes for tall women!!!

I purchased this coat over a month ago and waited for the cold weather. I was totally disappointed. Sleeves are too short and the inside drawstring is too high. It fits around my ribs, not waist. The cold goes up into the coat. I had to purchase a second coat from a chain store for much less money but it is much warmer. Bad purchase.

I really wanted to like this jacket but for the price it was disappointing to see strings coming loose so fast. Feathers coming out as well. It keeps me warm, but the quality seems to be lacking.

The coat was just what I wanted, except for the hood. It was HUGE!! There is no way I could put the hood on and still see where I was walking. I need a hood that is a normal size, as it gets windy here and I don't like the wind on my head. I would not recommend this coat unless you have a huge head.

I bought this same coat 3 years ago and loved it. Fast forward a few years and I needed a bigger size. Compared to my old one, it's OK. The front pockets feel more shallow and the fleece lining is very thin and just OK.
My main issue with this one is that it's been shedding feathers almost as soon as it came out of the box. I've worn it twice now and am on the fence about keeping it because of it. Overall I do love the design, the zippers and adjustable hood. I just remembered it being a little better than this one and that's disappointing.

I really love this coat EXCEPT the pockets. The pockets are so small! I can fit my keys in one pocket & my work badge in the other but they fall out constantly because the pockets are so small & the angle is not ideal. A phone will not fit I these pockets. The only pocket that is large enough to fit a phone is the inside breast pocket. If this jacket had deep pockets that actually hold items then it would be a 5 star MN inter coat!

A bit disappointed in both the price and durability of this coat. For over $150 I would expect to have this for many years. I have been wearing it for a bit more than a month and it has five pulls already. It is comfortable and generally warm enough. But it looks cheap already. The top of the zipper is super stiff and uncomfortable on my chin. The pockets are also pretty useless. Side pockets rather than a drop in pocket are just so sad. So I probably won't be buying another coat from LL Bean again.

I've had this jacket for about 2 months now and I've noticed that the top chest part and back, as it's a different material has been pilling.? Not sure what is causing this but it's extremely frustrating to have happen to a $250 jacket?

I have decades of positive experiences with LLBean products, so I was bummed that the women's mountain parka has disappointing design and fit quirks.
Lack of any adjustment mechanism on hood left hood nearly covering my eyes. Given that a winter parka should allow for vision in bright sun to wind-driven snow, skipping a simple loop/ toggle device on hood seems like a whoops-we-forgot. Next, while the skirt-like flare at hem may be intended to allow for ease of seating (??), it's more like a giant wind scoop (there is a toggle waist adjustment). Finally - and this is a frequent fitting issue in larger womens sizes - the chest darts incorporated to accomodate womens' breasts are not where breasts are (headed for armpits!), so resulting vacant fabric stands out there.
The assembly and materials all appear to be fine and I expect the parka would perform well, but I'm
returning it, primarily due to poor hood design, secondly the too-wide hem.

Very nice coat but the pockets are just too shallow. My phone barely fits and my gloves have fallen out numerous times.

Rates a 4-5 for warmth, but would be much better if it had deeper pockets on the outside and big pockets on the inside. Really no place for cell phone to be carried safely, without possibility of falling out.
