I had to wait for this to come back in stock in black, and I luckily caught a window of stock availability last week before it sold out again. I've had it 3 days and I stayed perfectly warm at the dog park on a windy night when the temperature was 20 degrees - wind chill. My goals with this coat were 1. super warm 2. super cozy, no harder outer lining that streamlined the coat. I wanted it to feel like I was wearing a comforter but not TOO puffy (important to stay comfortable during bonfire nights) 3. retro look that is subtle. Having a tailored, fitted flattering coat was not my first goal, although this is slightly fitted with the waist seams and cinchability. With those goals in mind this coat is exactly what I was looking for. The zipper side doesn't bother me. My one complaint is that the front pockets aren't deep enough for my iPhone xs to fit easily. I don't trust it will rest in the outer, angled pocket without falling out (the top of my phone sticks out). I smoosh it into the zippered pocket behind the outer and have to wedge it in at a weird angle and then zip it up. I take a lot of snapshots while walking and it's a hassle to get my phone in and out. The phone fits slightly better in the interior chest pocket but i'm not going to unzip my coat to take a photo so... I wish this coat had a vertical pocket behind the angled pocket instead of the angled interior zip pocket. If I'd known this ahead of time I would have chosen something else just because of the frequency that I use my phone for pictures. Sad because I love EVERYTHING else. It's soft, very warm, cool-looking and slightly fitted.

Cute, toasty warm coat once you get it zipped and buttoned.

Very good parka & size is great for a petite petite woman. However, the snaps are too hard to close. Easy to unsnap but very hard to snap.

I typically wear a small but reading other reviews Made me realize I should try in an extra small. Even the extra small was really hard on me. It's unfortunate that the sizing is so off because the jacket itself seems nice. In any event I ended up returning it to the store and selected a different one.

I bought a petite xsmall.. Black! after waiting FOREVER and having to pay twice I reordered a regular xs small in Navy because they didn't have in black and then had to wait again forever for my credit.. the coat seems to fit much better. Problem is I only got it about 3 weeks ago and we all know it has not even snowed yet so I don't really know how great the coat is capable of holding up to keeping me warm and keeping out the wet weather! I do like the coat so far except for the hood like others have said, it constant;y comes off. The double zipper is also very annoying. LL Bean does not have a lot of choices so I was really only left with this coat in the length I wanted or going to a 300$ coat that was pretty much same things. Price was good, and if coat holds up in cold weather and snow I will be happy and can except the hood and zipper!

I absolutely love this coat - color murky green and quite nice as a change from black. I like having both a zipper and snaps, but unfortunately the snaps on this coat are so tight and difficult that if I try to use them again, I fear I will break my thumbs! So I must always use the zipper. I am not happy about that but can't return it since I then won't have a winter coat to wear.

I have been searching for a nice warm jacket to replace one I've had for years. This one ticked off almost all my boxes. It's very warm, has a storm flap, and a good hood with no fake fur. The only things I wish it had were inside sleeves to better keep out the cold, deeper pockets, and fleece inside the collar. I feel like this coat does run big. I ordered a petite large based on my measurements compared to the size guide and based on a conversation I had with L.L. Bean customer service. However, it's big around the waist and in the hips and I think I definitely should have ordered a medium instead. I would have tried to order one to see, but the petite mediums were sold out in all colors.

Comfortable jacket for moderate cold temperatures. Pockets could be bigger.

Good value! Not the highest quality compared to higher priced similar parkas but the money is right. The pockets are way too small!! Llbean, women use pockets too!!

The parka fits well. It runs a bit big which works out so I can fit a comfy sweater under it. The only complaint is the zipper. It gets caught on the fabric almost every time I zipped it. Not sure why but I always have to fix it, which is obviously not ideal.

This coat would have been perfectly fine. It fit, It wasn't "bulky" as past down coats have been. However, I was looking for something slightly "dressier" so I could wear it on really freezing work days as well. I don't know about anyone else, but I would like to see women's clothing (especially coats which are nice with a little extra room for bulky sweaters) provide more room across the shoulders. My breasts are not bigger/wider than my shoulders and it's uncomfortable in the car when I reach for the steering wheel to feel as though I'm going to burst the shoulder seams of a coat.

This classic down parka coat, it is very nice and fit me well. The reason I do not rate 5 stars is because when I purchase, it had a white stain in the back of the bottom side. I exchanged it but now the problem is that is hard to put it together to zip! And when I take the coat off, I have a hard time to separate the end of the zipper.
There is no problem to zip up and down, the issue is when I put it together to zip up and when I zip it down, the problem is to take off the end.

I have the similar jacket style (green, Regular large). Since they are both 'semi-fitted' I got them a bit larger than needed and planned to wear over a sweater. I tried petite large & that was too tight in the jacket style. I don't like fitted clothes
In general but this one isn't bad. That said, this is the best I could do, I have tried & returned many LLB coats & jackets. I was going to get a 2nd jacket ( it covers my high hip area) then came upon the parka, which covers more of the hips & legs. Not thrilled with some features: I don't like a hood but this one is removable. I like snaps AND zippers though I only use the snaps or leave the coats open while driving. If the snaps ever won't work, I like the zipper option. The double pocket takes some getting used to, and I'm not happy with the high location of the inside pocket. The waist cord, even on the regular size parka, is actually at my waist ( I expected it to be too low to use). The jacket has proved to be warm & water-repellent ( not in rain or heavy snow). All in all probably one of the best outerwear LLB offers.

I had been searching high and low for a winter coat that's not only high quality and durable but within a reasonable price range for my student budget. I initially tried on this coat in store a few weeks ago and witnessed firsthand the faulty zipper issue that so many others have discussed. I have a rain coat from another company with the same zipper issue and as much as I loved the overall look, fit, and feel I couldn't handle another tricky zipper. Long story short, I went back to my local store again today and was able to find an XS black in stock... with a functioning zipper! I had on a wool sweater, LL Bean Mountain Classic Fleece Zip Up, and still had some room with this jacket on. The overall length hits me about mid thigh, the sleeves a few inches past my wrist, and the hood right at my eyebrows (an issue I've had with other coats is the hood being too large and covering my eyes). I haven't tested it out in rain or snow yet but wore it right out of the store with 20 mph winds today and I didn't feel a thing!

I did a lot of research to find the perfect jacket and decided to go with this one because of the glowing reviews. It was backordered so I had to wait a while for it to ship. The first size I purchased (a small) was way too big on me so I returned it and ordered an xxsmall size which fits nicely. I like the jacket because it does definitely keep me warm when it covers my body. I like the color and I like that the handcuffs are tighter than most jackets. But what I don't like is the neck area, it is too high up and even when zippered up it does not keep your neck warm and also it is very uncomfortable. Another thing I didn't like was the snaps that are soooo difficult to snap together and hurts your body so you can't really use them which allows some of the wind to sneak through the zipper. The last thing I dislike is that a lot of the down keeps coming out of the jacket which is very annoying. I do like the jacket but if I had the time to do more research and find a better one, I would have returned it and bought a better one.

This is exactly what it says - a warm, down-filled coat. It's 650 fill, so not as warm as an 850 fill coat, but it fits the bill in most situations. It's comfortable and looks good. I gave it 4 stars because the zipper is tricky and requires some manipulation when trying to close the coat. In addition, the waist drawstring sits high and is uncomfortable unless you have a high waist, so I don't use it.

The fit is good, especially with use of the waist drawstring, which keeps the down close for the narrow of waist. It is a nice warm coat but not as warm (or wind proof) as the one I bought from LL Bean a few years ago in a style that I adored but that is no longer available. I like the pockets a lot zip and hand pockets, and there is room for layers underneath.

I've purchased a lot of jackets over the years from Bean. This one is my favorite. The fit is excellent, the fabric is soft, there are plenty of pockets, the cuffs are nice and snug. I look forward to wearing it when I take my dog out for her last walk of the day, when nights are already getting pretty chilly. No idea yet if it will be able to hold up well against our very rainy Portland winters and springs (other Bean jackets haven't lasted long), but I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I love this jacket so much. BUT...the zipper is awful! It is a real struggle to close the zipper, sometimes taking several minutes of fiddliness to coax it up inch by inch. I think this is mostly related to it catching on the facing fabric, which is way too close to the zipper, unfortunately. Opening the zipper up to take the jacket off can also be a bit of a struggle, but not as bad. And then there's the fact that Bean used a zipper typically found in men's jackets that opens on the wrong side (from a woman's perspective). On the plus side, it is a two-way zipper, which I think is absolutely essential in a jacket. All that said, I'm willing to put up with the nightly struggle because I love wearing this jacket.

Before purchasing item I thoroughly read the reviews on here. I am normally a US L - XL/16 and broad. Based on other reviews I was expecting the jacket to run small so was almost tempted to go into the plus size but ordered the regular XL. I can honestly say that the measurements that are provided by L.L. Bean are 100% accurate as the XL is more of an 18-20 and more than adequate in width for broader shoulders. I sadly have to return as it is too large and frumpy on me.

Lightweight, comfortable and very warm. However, my coat is difficult to zip and even harder to snap. Disappointed with both the zipper and snap quality.

I bought two sizes up since down coats often are very fit. I have enough room to wear thick sweater if I want to, or tighten inner line by waist to have more shape. This was a great purchase as I am short, love the body length and sleeves are fine too. I took one star off from 5, since online picture of the coat seems to have much shinier looking gold buttons, looked good with navy blue, however in person they were dark brass, and also realized there are two tones of blue used for coat, slightly lighter navy blue by shoulders front and back, a bit of a weird look...... that said, I think this coat will serve the Massachusetts winter well for me and will look great with my bean boots!

I love the jacket but I don't like how the hood is attached to the jacket. It has 3 small snaps that come apart very easily. Every time I try to pull the hood over my head when I have the jacket on, the snaps come apart. It is frustrating to try to get the hood over your head in bad weather. Either put stronger snaps or put a zipper on it.

I first ordered a medium petite, and it was huge on me! I then ordered a misses small and it still had room across the chest, so I ordered the misses x-small and it worked!

Fits just right with just enough room to wear a warm sweater. If it was just an inch longer, it'd be perfect but honestly, its exactly what I was looking for, for these cold upstate NY winters.

This coat is very warm and comfortable. The only complaint I have is the buttons to keep the hood attached to the coat are plastic and flimsy and come undone constantly. Should have used metal and made them sturdier. Otherwise, I do love my coat, it is true to size, and will keep me warm for years to come.
