This is the most comfortable jacket I have ever had. Fits perfectly. Not at all puffy. Feels unbelievably light yet is warm. (So far down to the low 20s but I think it will handle temps in the teens too.) The zippered pocket on the front is conveniently located and just the right size for my phone, wallet, etc. Highly recommended!

Apart from calling it a "sweater" instead of a "jacket", I wouldn't change a thing about it. LL Bean offers my rare size medium tall and it fits my 6'2" 170lb self perfectly. Because I'm skinny I get cold very easily and this thing is perfect. Wore it last weekend in 35 degree weather while others' jackets were three times thicker and I was perfectly warm. You can find cheaper down jackets out there but I doubt you can find higher quality. The proprietary nylon shell and zipper really do make a difference and the fill count is as high as any I've seen. I've already ordered the big baffle version for the coldest of cold days and am trying to practice restraint from getting the 850 down jacket version.

I needed a middle weight jacket and have found down to be superior to any other insulation. This was on sale and in tall sizes. It fits great very light weight but nice and warm. Wish I had had it at the beginning of the cold season rather than the end.

My son (age 25) uses as 4 season layering for everyday use and hike, backpacks trips throughout New England and US. He was looking for something lightweight, yet warm, wind/water resistant that layers and can be worn with day pack.

This is sooo thin and yet offers just the right amount of warmth for 40-65 degree climate. I bought this for my 97 year old mother who lives in a nursing home. She wears it every day to dinner to mitigate the drafts, and marvels at how soft it is.
Seems the Men's sizes fit women best, as it come down a tad bit more.
I have the slightly warmer 850 jacket, which I wear during three seasons.
The outer material feels very soft and I've worried it would easily rip, but after more than a year of rather rough usage, it still looks new and no tears.

My 20-year-old L.L. Bean warm-up jacket was finally getting worn out so I bought this down sweater to replace it, but was skeptical it would be as warm because it was so thin and ridiculously light, down or not. I should have known to trust the temperature rating because it really is as warm, if not warmer, than the thicker and much heavier warm-up jacket. Love the super light weight and baffled styling. I see some people saying the outer shell is delicate so I will definitely try to be careful to not brush up against anything that might rip the shell. All in all I'm loving this jacket!

I really liked the fact that I had an alternative. I had been getting Tall/Large and it was a bit tight. The Tall/X-Large does the trick. I liked everything about it except one thing... It had no interior pockets. It has one zipper pocket on the upper left hand side and the two zipper pockets where one would put their hands. Maybe I'm just one of those strange people who like interior pockets, but I certainly use them when the garment has them. Thank you!

Fits well and wears very light. You hardly know you have it on but that being said it blocks the wind and is very warm. Packs up very small. A great piece of gear.

Great product, nice and warm on a 20 degree day with wind and a tee shirt and an LLB henly long sleeve underneath. Just a bit too small to say the least. Return b Ed for an XXL Tall

I'm amazed at how light weight this jacket is. You don't feel like you're wearing a jacket until you step outside and realize you're warm. Does a great job at blocking the wind and retaining your body heat. Wore it walking at night in downtown Boston, the temperature was 20 degrees with wind gusts at 30 mph. I was very comfortable.
Using solely as an everyday "dress" jacket. This jacket won't be seeing any backwoods with me so can't comment on it's durability.
It will get me through a New England winter. I haven't tried to layer it yet.

Decently warm jacket. The cold does seem to pass through the materials unlike my other down jacket but plan to wear under a shell in other conditions. I have stood out with just a long sleeve quilted sweater under it in 10-degree weather and just barley kept warm. I do see small feathers poking out here and there. I am just over 6ft/210 lbs. and purchased the Large Tall and like the fit. I don't like it when I raise my arms, and the sleeves shrink up so the tall version does not do that.

Very comfortable jacket. Light in weight, big on warmth. I would have given 5 stars if clothes were still designed to fit smaller men. At 5' 3" tall, in good shape, I used to wear medium sized clothes until about 15 years ago when the size chart changed. Now, a size small top may fit okay in the arm length but too tight in the torso. Wearing a medium fits well everywhere except the sleeves, which are much too long. This jacket fits well in the torso but the sleeves are a tad too long and the jacket length is a bit too long. So, once again, I had to settle for something not quite perfect.
I have been wearing Bean clothes since 1993, since size changes in the early 2000's I have been limited to selection. It would be nice if companies offered clothes for short & small, like there are big & tall stores.
I still recommend L.L. Bean as they stand behind their products and they hold up well.

My second on of these. Would have been 5 stars, but the fabric is easy to tear, thus my second one. It is the best coat for all around winter wear in East Tennessee.

This is a 5 star jacket. 4 star rating for my particularly focused needs. 6'2" 170, 39in chest, 34in sleeve. I'm a medium in this type of jacket, L is too broad in chest & shoulder. Wore a Sierra Designs (w/ longer sleeves due to thumb holes) for almost 15yrs. Fit is super important to me as I wear a jacket like this for up to 10hrs/day. Slim fit w/ long enough sleeves & torso is a must. Warmth is 1A in importance. Utility (pockets) is next. Tried on down sweater/jacket from about a dozen brands. Almost all 1/2-1in too short in sleeve length. MH Stretchdown Light was a perfect fit, but not warm at all with a minimal amount of 700 fill. Very happy to see LL Bean offers Tall, but...it's freakishly tall. Sleeves to my knuckles and torso covered back pockets on 501s. Returned to local store and tried on M regular which was OOS at the store before Christmas. Excellent torso fit and sleeves maybe a 1/4in shorter than ideal. The 850 fill is incredible. Ever so slightly less sleek than some competitors, but instantly warm. Like walking the dog in 20 degrees with short-sleeved t-shirt warm. My pocket wish list - inside zippered chest, two interior stash for gloves & hat. I can live with exterior chest zip, but it's inexcusable to not have stash pockets. Not unique to LL Bean. I'd say about half the brands fail here. The fit and warmth sold me, and the front zig zag baffles are a nice styling cue. I'll find an outdoor gear repair shop to add stash pockets for me. Don't sleep on this jacket versus any big name gear brand.

Great as a lightweight layering piece.
Jacket (sweater) is green, but the zipper is blue.
Blue?
What, were you fresh out of green zippers?
