It was time to replace my old LL Bean Warm-up jacket so I ordered a new one exactly the same as my old one -- only it wasn't. There were now knit sleeve cuffs making it harder to put on and especially take off. It was more tight fitting than the old one in the same size. And the handy chest pocket was removed for a reason I can't fathom. If this was the first time you bought this jacket, you would think it was pretty good. If you (like me) could directly compare it to the previous iteration, you, too, would probably be disappointed.

Jacket is fine, just a bit to big for me

My husband has the red jacket that he's worn for years and years. He liked it so well that I bought him the navy jacket exactly like his old one. The new one is very snug and unfortunately he didn't mention that at the time and now too much time has gone by to return. He is giving his old navy jacket to our son since it is like-new and I am purchasing another in a XXL because he loved the original red one so much. The old one isn't stretched out - it is just cut differently. Be careful when ordering - at least the navy colored jacket.

My husband and I have been buying these jackets for over 30 yrs. When it came time for a new one there was no question that we'd buy the exact same jacket. My husband's recently ended up at the bottom of the ocean. We immediately bought another and were pretty amazed by how much the quality of the jacket had declined. The entire jacket was much less substantial. The collar was really thin compared to our others. He'll keep it (as he needs it, now that the weather in New England is getting nippier), but this one will be the last one that we get. Other companies make similar ones.

I've bought four of these; they're comfortable and warm, but are now more expensive than they should be. Another plus is that the small size fits me well, and I am a woman of average size.
Downsides are the collar, which doesn't lay flat. Worst of all are the cuffs, which begin fraying within a year. Knit cuffs don't have to do this, and I wish LL Bean would find another material that lasts longer. I have older jackets of different design with knit cuffs that remain intact for over a decade, so I can't understand why these are so poor.

I bought this jacket for my husband. He has been a size 2XLT his entire adult life. I order things they fit. Not this jacket. Though it seems well made it was tight. He had no room for movement at all. I returned it and a month later am still waiting to receive a refund.

the material and construction are fine; no problems with that.
but this jacket has the same shortcoming for my preferences as other LLB jackets I have ordered (and returned)...the type of lining in the chest and back does not extend into the sleeves. the sleeves are usually unlined or lined in some type of nylon. I prefer jackets that are fully lined in the same material throughout.
sometimes LLB will allude to this in their product descriptions but most times not. personally, I'm not going to order any more LLB jackets because of this.

Nicely designed and constructed jacket. However, the fit is not a true XXL fit, but a 1.75% XL fit. Too snug across the chest and shoulders.

Hubby has had this for several years. It was his go-to jacket for the spring and fall. Now the ribbing on the cuffs and bottom has gotten loose and makes the whole jacket look shabby. It really looks ready for the donation box. Such a shame that the new ones make a noise according to the reviews, so I won't be getting the new one for him. Also this one seems to be double the price of the last one, which is another deterrent.

I bought this same jacket about six or seven years ago and thought I would replace it as the original, like me, is starting to show its age. The new one would be okay for Target or JC Penny but for the price was not what I expected from L.L. Bean. It definitely isn't as well made, the lining is thinner, just seems overall to be of poorer quality.
I would rather pay more and get the same quality as years ago than have L.L Bean cheapen the product to keep the price down.

Bought this to replace my husband's old jacket, which was a L. So disappointed that this one (also a L) ran so small he couldn't even zip it. Apparently Bean's sizing is no longer consistent, as some reviewers say the jacket fits well. Needless to say I'm returning it.

I was so excited to give this to my husband for his birthday but... XXL fit like a XL. 6' 230 and should have fit. Very disappointed! Great quality ,nice color but it's going back tomorrow. No larger size so guess we'll try another catalog company for this type of jacket.

This is a good jacket but, the size is not consistent.
I bought two in the same size but the second one was too small.

This was what I was expecting, except for one thing. The catalogs say this jacket is good for 35 to -15 degrees. There is no truth to that. This is an excellent jacket down to 40 degrees. I guess you CAN wear it when it is colder, but you will be very cold!

OK, yeah, it's 4+ years old but that's not enough to make me forgive the fact that all four zippers are malfunctioning on a regular basis. (I keep a pliers in the inside pocket now.)

This would have been my 5th warm up jacket, but sizing was an issue. All of my other jackets fit great in extra large. This jacket is not the same, it is tight in the chest and waist areas. There is a definite size issue, too small. I am still using my last jacket but not confident about buying a new one now if this size issue continues. I believe an xxl would be too big and not consistent with my past experience with these jackets.

Jacket is very nice: comfortable weight, serviceable at many temperatures. However, it did not fit me well: binding in the armpits, too big in the chest.

I returned it for a Tall size. Now it's on back orde. That's why my rating is a two star. I'd love to receive it before warm weather !!!

I am disappointed that the jacket has not been improved. There are two major issues. The continued use of a light duty plastic zipper will leave this jacket unuseable after a few years. I thought the zipper failure on my first jacket would be corrected after years of testing by the public. The jacket is very noisy in cold weather; it sounds like it contains stiff plastic material, very annoying.

I bought this jacket to replace an older version of it that my daughter adopted. I was very happy with the old one. I'm very disappointed with the new one though. The material feels cheap. I wouldn't buy this jacket again.

This warm-up jacket cannot compare with the earlier versions. In cold weather (when you would wear the jacket) the outer shell feels like a cheap plastic trash bag and is a bit noisy when you move around. I know that recycled fibers and fabrics along with "sustainability" are the latest fad, but this should not come at the cost of quality. Sustainability is nice, but if you can't sustain your (long-term) customer base, what does that say about the future of LL Bean?

I have bought 3 or four of these warm up jackets and am pleased with the overall weight because if needed, I can add an inner layer for warmth. However, this is my third or fourth purchase and every single jacket has developed a frayed cloth cuff in the same area of the left arm. The response that I got from customer support stated that the coat should be returned to LL Bean, they would assess if a repair was possible, it could take 7 - 8 weeks and they would contact me with a possible cost. Looks like it's time to find a similar coat made by another outdoor supplier.

I've worn out two of these jackets in the past and loved them. Always wore a LT and they fit perfectly
this time the sleeves were a little too short and the jacket felt thinner and more vinylie

I've worn these jackets since the 1980s, sizing up from L to XL some time in my 20s. I bought this jacket to replace one that's about 5 years' old, size XL, fits perfectly. The new jacket, unfortunately, seems to be tailored differently through the shoulders so, and the quality of materials and sewing has dropped: the fleece lining is super thin, and zippers are sloppily sewn. So though there's probably nothing that can reduce my love for LL Bean, this particular item is going back to the store.
