These were nice until the first time I washed them. I hung them to dry and when I took them off the line I noticed the banding was fraying excessively. Totally not what I expected from L.L.Bean. I won't be purchasing anything else from them. Total lack of quality.

I bought these a little over 3 months ago and the heels completely wore through on both pairs. I would hope that these socks would last longer than 3 months!

I would love to try these on and be able to wear them but they still smell after washing them 6 times: in the washing machine, by hand, soaking them, turning them inside out and washing again, sprinkling baking soda on them, etc. They smell is faint, but still there. It's a very bad chemical or plastic smell.

The MERINO Wool socks, quite pricey, are beautiful BUT you sent 2 completely different sizes. They were meant as a Christmas gift for my husband but only the gray pair fits him (shoe size 10.5-11), The Camo colored pair fits me (shoe size 8.5-9). Where is your quality control??? I expect better from LLBean and will not pay to ship them back for your mistake.

My shoes size is 11.5, and I ordered these in XL. They appear are well-constructed, in the sense that they are well-sown and it is good quality wool. But, they are tightly sown and there is zero give to them, and due to the narrow leg part and heel part, it is extremely difficult to put on. (I stopped wearing them due to the hassle) I used to really have to torque on the socks with both hands to get my foot past the heel, then I'd have to grab the sock and yank until it sat square at my heel. While this worked, it clearly is not good for the sock, and the heel part is already coming apart. This was the XL size! Sorry to say these were disappointing. And, they are not cheap.

These ragg wool socks are very cheap and thin. I bought 4 pairs just over a month ago, and two of them already have holes in the bottom. I wear them inside only. Previously purchased these from LL Bean with no problem, they must have changed manufacturers. Expensive, but very cheaply made.

The heels on these wool socks wore out within one month, wearing them no more than 10 times. The quality of the wool is clearly very poor.

I have several pairs of these socks from the 90's - 2000's and they are great. I was hoping that Bean would keep the same quality in the new ones. Nope. They are terrible, absolutely horrible, in every sense of the word. They don't hold shape, they are thin, mostly synthetic and have a loose weave. Now I see why Bean is stepping back from their lifetime guarantee. Buy American? Not if it is sub-par quality. Never again.

Poor quality socks. Bought in November 2018. Only wore couple of times in that season. This 2019-2020 season wore again couple of times and notice that from the heel they are ripped off - big hole. I would not recommend this socks to anyone.

First, LLB suggested I buy the large for size 10, I went XL and they were the right size. Contrary to their claims, the socks were not as thick and warm as the competition (the SmartWool heavy are the same price and exceedingly superior), and they do not recover as well in the wash as noted. Finally, after two wears, they lose thickness at the base, which I need on the streets walking 5-10 miles per day.

I was very disappointed in these socks. I find the toe seam to be very uncomfortable and the fabric to be so course that they are uncomfortable. I realize that sometimes wool can be that way but these seem extremely course. I never thought that I would ever pay this kind of money for socks but I just could not fine what I was wanting and because I strongly have trusted the L.L.Bean brand I took a chance on them. I have washed them and given them a fair try. So discouraged that I spent this kind of money and will not be wearing them.

These socks are rough and scratchy, almost like burlap! In addition they get hot and uncomfortable after just a couple of hours' wear. I have owned merino wool/nylon blend socks like these before and they have always been soft and cozy. (I'm not sure if they were Bean's.) The socks are made from an inferior fabric, which is stated as 'imported' even though they are supposed to be American made. They leave marks around my ankles, none of my other socks do this. Bean, please don't ruin American made items by using cheap imported materials. Wish I could return them but I always wash new clothing items before wearing (everyone should....new clothes are far from clean....but I digress..) I did notice that the socks didn't feel very soft before I washed them, but thought washing would make them more comfortable. Wrong...very disappointed and irritated that these socks would be described as soft when they obviously are not, especially at $35 a pair! Lesson learned.

I purchased these on sale last year, they come in a set of two. I wore them for the first time recently and one of the heels wore out! I kept feeling cold on my foot and thought they had gotten wet. How could a thick pair of socks that were kind of spendy have a hole in them after wearing them for a day? When I discovered the hole I was so disappointed....I don't know how these would stand up to every day wear when I only wore them around the house for a day and they got a hole in them....They are warm but I won't ever spend this much money on a pair of socks again.....Very disappointed in these

I bought these socks for my wife as a Christmas gift to go along with her new lined Bean Boots, and was disappointed to find we had been shipped two different size socks! One pair was a full two inches shorter than the other. Since we had to buy a set of two, we sent both back with a note asking for two socks the same size, but two weeks later, we have not heard anything, nor received a replacement. There is enough confusion about footwear sizing with Bean, and this simply adds to that bewilderment.

One pair fit but the other was much smaller and I can't wear it. The quality of the pair that fits is, as usual is excellent. I am little miffed that I paid for 2 pair of socks but only got one that I can use.

Don't waste your money. I bought a two pack last year, washed them about three times and the heels wore a hole right through. I only wear wool socks summer and winter and know how to treat them. I took them back and they refused to honor the warranty. I guess that's the new Bean. Will be careful on what I purchase from now on. Good luck

I've had wonderful luck with everything I've ever bought from LL Bean. I needed some heavy socks and figured these would be great, but the first time I washed them, both the washer and dryer ended up loaded with blue fuzz, and the socks were a pilly mess; certainly not something I'd wear in public! I'm very disappointed in this purchase.

I bought this 2-pack of socks and the blue ones unraveled from the top with the first washing. Took them to the flagship store in Maine, and the customer service rep first stated he thought I allowed a dog to chew them, then would not exchange for a new pair because I did not have the original packaging with both pairs. Too expensive for a product that does not have a true warranty.

I have other socks of this type which I really like. So I had good expectations. Unfortunately, I am very disappointed with the fit of these. My shoe size is at the lower part of the size LARGE that I ordered. However, they are much too small. There is no way a size 11 or 12 could wear them. Too bad because otherwise, they would be great.

I ordered six pair of these wool socks one month ago and I am very disappointed. The first pair had a hole in the toes at the end of the day. I clipped my nails to insure they weren't the problem and wore the second pair the next day and had holes in the toes at the end of the day. I changed to a second pair of shoes and on the third day, the third pair of socks had a hole the size of a quarter over the smaller of my toes. Enough said. This marks my first bad experience with an LLBean product.

Laundered prior to wearing. Turned inside out as per directions prior to washing. Results: a Pilly mess, with one having a loose piece of elastic-rubber thread at top of sock. Wish I could give no stars!
