It fit well, but inside layer is very uncomfortable, scratchy.

After washing, I was not happy with appearance of material. I don't iron, but this material will definitely need to be pressed due to wrinkled appearance. Not up to LL Bean standards!

Got this to replace a well-loved dual layer shirt and it was such a disappointment. Wanted the warmth of wool on the outside and the softness and comfort of cotton on the inside. Instead got really scratchy cheap feeling outside, and sticky feeling polyester on the inside.

Second item I bought this year that does not really fit as an XL size, both too small.

I have been a Bean customer for decades and this is the worst product I've ever received. The fabric feels like burlap. The cut makes the garment feel like it's on backward no matter which way you wear it. No idea what they were thinking when this one got through product testing.

I bought this as a gift and the recipient said it shrunk significantly once it was washed and dried.

My husband is tall (6'3") and thinner (175) so tall works on him. There aren't a lot of options for guys like him. These shirts were great until they were washed and they shrank significantly (probably close to 2 inches per arm). So, they were returned.
(the sweater fleece full-zip held up great when washed though)

These shirts used to be great. But now they are wool lined. Merino wool normally doesn't bother me at all, generally I love it. But this thing itches! And it runs a little small. Returned. Get the Original Waffle Henley if you want what the original River Driver shirt was, the only difference is the waffle design.

with very little wear this shirt, and a second I bought of a different color, wore clean through at the elbows. Very unimpressed with this level of quality. Expect more of LL Bean

First time I was ever disappointed in a llbean henley. Not sure what caused it to irrate my skin, but nylon? stitching around collar made it necessary to return.

I wore these exact shirts 30 years ago and loved them!
Have not purchased much from LL bean because I moved to the West Coast.
I just recently bought three of these and I am very disappointed because
they are extremely ichy from the wool blend. the cotton inner lay does not work and I cannot wear them. I am hoping I can return them in exchange for something else.

Became scratchy after the first wash. Itchy around the collar. Shrunk after 3 washes. Not up to Bean's usual standard.

This is the worst product I've ever bought from the usually-reliable LL Bean. The sleeves were way too long, the shirt wrinkled from one wearing and never sprung back and the fabric felt icky. Worst of all, it made me look fat! I'm not joking.

This is not a comfortable shirt and I'll never buy another. Please bring back the all-cotton double-layer river driver. That shirt is bliss.

The description sounded good. Different from other sweatshirt / sweater type garments that I have, I found it in a deep red that I liked, so I ordered it. When it arrived, I noticed that the neckline on the left side had a 'crimp' in it and did not lay flat and neat. I figured (hoped) that after washing, it would smooth out / even out. I wore it, feeling sloppy with the poorly constructed, crooked neckline, just to check out its other attributes, and get it to the washing stage. I washed it just as I do all of my similar type garments, and when I looked at it, all freshly washed and dried, it now had 'crimps' on both the left AND right sides of the neckline. Obviously, this river-driver shirt was poorly / sloppily constructed with no quality control to catch this construction flaw. Since I am, and have been for a long time, a good and loyal L. L. Bean customer, I am extremely disappointed with this Horrible, Poorly Made Garment. Now I have to waste my very busy time to write this review, and I will have to waste more time returning it. Not what I expect from L. L. Bean. Not why I buy so many garments from L. L. Bean. My therapeutic suggestion to L. L. Bean is to step up your Quality Control to a Higher and More Consistent Level.

I still have river driver shirts that I bought over 30 years ago and I wanted to replace the red one I have since its age was beginning to show. The river driver shirt that I received fit OK but was unbelievably scratchy. The material made me itch and felt very uncomfortable. That's why I returned it. Suggest that you review the material and the vendor that you use and find a suitable replacement.

Wife followed washing and drying instructions but after 5 or 6 washings I noticed it was getting shorter. Now ( a few years later) it only gets worn when it is the last one in the closet. It has shrunk up enough in length that it is uncomfortable and impossible to keep tucked in.
Also, the cuff on the left sleeve has a twist in it and will not lay flat - basically just a cosmetic appearance problem - not a big deal.
I should have returned it but life keeps one busy and a short shirt has not been at the top of my problem list. If you want an excellent shirt - try the sun washed canvas (I have a number of those and will be ordering more shortly).

Second review of the same item. LL Bean asked me by email to review it twice. Opinion has not changed. Do not buy it, unless you love to waste your money. I will never recommend it to anyone.

I want to like this so much -- I love the fabric, the fit, the look -- but the first time I wore it, the side seam split.

Sleeves are too tight. Not comfortable at all. Too many wrinkles. I'm going back to the mini waffles shirt.

Not a bad shirt, it's fairly warm but it shrinks a ton. I normally wear a large and the short fit loosely before I washed it. Now it's unwearable.
