I bought 2 of these shirts. they fit great out of the package but when I washed them they both shrunk enough that I can no longer wear them.

Purchased the indigo heather color, the first one was too scratchy, so sent it in for a replacement. Second one was too scratchy, and I washed it 3 times and wore it for 2 weeks, still too scratchy!! Love LL Bean but disappointing because I have had this shirt in the past and loved it!!

The picture showed a much lighter shirt. What we got was a very dark brown. My husband was very disappointed. I called about the shirt and the associate was not very helpful. Fortunately my son-in-law liked the shirt.

Really a nice shirt, but washing instructions say to air dry. This website says it will shrink in dryer. Maybe if you can guess on how much it will shrink, but I need clothes that are easy to care for.

An excellent product when first worn, but after a single wash the wool on the outer layer penetrates the inner cotton layer and causes itching. Furthermore, the advertising does not state that the product must be dried lying flat rather than in a clothes drier.

Too scratchy at the neck. Even after three washings. Sent it back.

Second one of these after first one shrank to the point it was unwearable. Kudos to LL for sending me another one, but this one is headed to the thrift store.

So sad about this gift for my husband. He wore this shirt once, never even washed, and it tore apart at the seams when he took it off. You definitely do NOT get what you pay for! Unfortunately, while LL Bean prices have gone way up, their quality has gone down terribly. They're just not reliable anymore. What happened to you LLBean?

This shirt fit me well and was warm. Biggest problem was the itch factor. Other wool products do not seem to bother me but I couldn't handle the itch of this wool content shirt. I tried wearing a long sleeve t-shirt under it but the itch was still there.

This was the first L.L.Bean Product that I didn't just love. It itches when I wear it unless I have a collared, long sleeve shirt underneath it. I knew that it had wool in it but there are grades of wool now days that are just fine next to the skin. I'm disappointed. I thought that I would return it, but I took it on a trip before I even tried it on, and paid expedited shipping to get it in time. However I needed to wear it several times for warmth, so I probably can't in good conscience return it. It is warm, but that's all I can say. I will use it very seldom because it's not comfortable.

For some reason, Bean has stopped offering the river drivers shirt in women's. I bought a man's but the buttons are on the "wrong" side. I also was disappointed in lack of colors.

After the first wash the fabric bunched up, shrunk, the collar ruffled and no longer stayed flat.

The itchiest, most uncomfortable shirt I have ever put on my body. I thought the cotton lining would help, but it did not. Those with a sensitivity to wool should avoid this item.

Because if you do, this is your shirt. The single most uncomfortable garment I've ever bought, and washing it only seems to make it worse. My Christmas LLB binge-buy was otherwise great, but this item is a loser.

this shrank and cannot be worn. We did put it through the dryer and later saw that it says "dry flat" in the instructions, so I guess we are at fault. But it would have been good if we were aware of the drying requirement before it was purchased. I would not have bought it if I had been aware it could not go in a dryer.

$70 for a top with no hem on it! You should tell (or show) people that before they buy it. Not what I expect for that money. Disappointed. I count on you for decent quality.

Men's medium is all I've ever bought from LL Bean. So this purchase was along the same lines as a medium sized River Driver's Shirt was ordered. I've bought and worn LL Bean River Driver Shirts for 40 years or more. This shirt arrived and was snug when I first pulled it on. No big deal - it's new - it'll stretch with wear. But after it's first wash it was unbearable to wear as it was too snug (yes - I know the outer portion of the shirt is wool - I understand how to wash that type of garment. Disappointed, I donated it to charity.

I am a long time L.L Bean customer who has gone through life with outstanding, high quality clothing and gear from this once solid brand. However, as of late, L.L. Bean's quality has become noticeably cheaper and the once unshakable reliability of L.L Bean is no more.
I have had several of these shirts throughout the years, and it has always been very solidly made, but this version is terrible. Very thin material, sizing is way off. Large tall is clownishly long and the regular large is extremely short. It isn't limited to just this shirt, I have bought other items, and returned them for similar reasons. Overall way lower standards than in the past. Yet, interestingly, the price remains the same. If L.L. Bean is going to sell cheaper quality versions of their goods, it should be reflected by lower prices. I am very disappointed in what has become of L.L Bean, a brand once synonymous with quality outdoor goods.

I have wore these for years. They had women's years ago. I wish they would bring them back. You carried different colors. The shirts years ago were heavier. The shirts didn't have quality issues that are present now days. Some of the shirts come with the material being very scratchy. They never get soft. LLBEAN needs to be consistent on companies they use to make the shirts. Also inspection need to be done more thoughly.

The collar area was uncomfortable and was not satisfied with the weight and warmth of this shirt. By reading other reviews and a comment made by a customer in the printed catalog I thought this was the base layer I always was looking for. This comment stated this shirt was warm & cozy. I found this shirt to thin and if it is double layered, which I'm sure it probably is, the layers are to thin for a $60 shirt. I did not find this cozy and warm at all - not what I was expecting and I returned it for a flannel shirt that I was already familiar with.

Collar band was slightly puckered when received. After washing it was EXTREMELY puckered = unsatisfactory and unwearable.
