Live in southern CA so only wore when weather was cold. Purchased 12 months ago and loved the look initially. Unfortunately, the background color/finish started showing through after the first wash. By the third wash, the color became permanently wrinkled as though the underlying lining shrunk at a different rate than the rest of the garment. Liked the color and feel initially and traditionally love LLBean product. This disappointed.

I have been purchasing these shirts for many years for my two sons and now my two grandsons. They are true to size, wash and dry nicely plus they are warm and toasty for wintertime!! They LOVE these shirts...

I bought this a month ago, have worn it and laundered it a couple of times. I was hoping it would take the chill off wearing it in the house when the temperature outside was in the 40s (Michigan). What happened is that after wearing it for about an hour, I would develop a cold sweat. Taking it off to inspect it, I would see that the cotton lining was SOAKED with moisture. Then I asked myself why was this surprising? Cotton absorbs moisture but doesn't wick it away. Which begs the question of why this shirt was designed with a cotton liner in the first place, when it performs as would be expected. I'm returning the shirt. Instead of keeping the chill off, I'm ending up cold and clammy. Well maybe warm and clammy. The outer layer is, after all, 40% merino wool.

My "original" River Driver and cotton shirts are still as good as when i bought the, albeit a little faded yet softer! New Now?...no comparison! Nothing stays the same including the LLB quality...(:-[

Purchased as gifts for 3 different people, different ages as replacements for very old versions they wore for years. While they looked similar, once the shirts were washed and laid flat to dry based on instructions, the band around the neck became curled and lumpy. My guess is that there is some sort of stiffing material in this collar area that doesn't perform similarly to the rest of the shirt. In either case, the quality isn't there for the price, so they are being returned.
Would LOVE to have LL Bean offer a duo-layer all cotton version.
This photo shows the bunched up neckline after never having worn but washed once with careful attention to lay flat to dry.

Garbage. The worst purchase I have made from ll bean and probably my last. One wash destroyed it.

It's too tight around the chest and extremely uncomfortable. I wish's I could send it back, but I already washed it.

I purchased it because your ad says it is a two layer shirt which it is Not, and Not a warm shirt. The shirt is now at Goodwill.

I purchased two of these shirts as gifts in 2022 and the recipient loved them. I purchased one of these shirts in 2024 and the price has increased but the fabric feels thinner. Disappointed that my favorite store has done this.

Washed and dried it first time. Inner layer seems to shrink away from outer layer causing the shirt to wrinkle extremely bad. Will not buy again.

Grossly disappointed they changed the quality of what used to be soft, comfortable double layer shirts to cheap scratchy fabric. Returning!

I know these shirts are wonderful because I've bought many for my husband. At that time, though, they were reasonably priced.
$70? Come on L.L. Bean, do better with your pricing.

Poor quality and shrinks when laundered. My husband didn't want to wear these after the first 2 weeks and got rid of them.

Never received the right item, I don't have the time to deal with a return. Christmas elves must have had too much to drink while they packaged orders. I'll just do without.

I usually really like LL Bean products, but not this one! Prepare to be disappointed! This item shrinks dramatically. The collar is totally ruined due to shrinkage. It is all curled up and looks horrible. I would not recommend buying this!

All the seams were scratchy, rough, and coarse. My Husband wore the shirt for an hour and could stand it no longer. I am very disappointed with this shirt, as it was expensive . I ordered this shirt online and if I had selected it in the store, I would have placed it back on the shelf.

I was very happy to see this style in my LLB catalogue and liked the available colors. When they arrived, I found that the normal comfortable fit was just not there. I estimate that it needs about 25-30 washings to smooth things out: just too scratchy and uncomfortable. The neckline developed a "wave" after the first (and only washing). It was heavily wrinkled (top loading washer, no agitator) and would not smooth out unless I used a warm iron and even then it was still funky looking. Having to dry flat is a bit much for a work shirt. Too much trouble for an LLB product - hated to do it, but they need to be sent back and maybe hit the drawing board again.

I like the fit. The shirts are perfect for fall temperatures in Tennessee.

it turns out we must have received an irregular shirt. It measures 10.5 inches from the buttons to the armpit on the right side and 8.5 inches on the left side. So it is uneven

I have an old one of these and they are a 5 star shirt. However I ordered a new one and received one 2 sizes larger than I ordered. Then was told that my size wouldnt be available for over a month. I wont need it by then. And then everything went on sale after I paid full price. I'm not happy with LL Bean right now. But the shirt is awesome enough for me to want 2 of them.
