The fabric weight of this shirt is excellent and the styling and structure are of good quality. We purchased the gray color, and it is exactly as pictured in the catalog. The fit; however, is overly large. The recipient always wears a "large," and this shirt was too big overall and had to be exchanged for a "medium." The sizing problem is the reason for only 4 stars.

Nicely constructed shirt. It is a little large in the shoulder for a medium but the sleeve length was fine. The body of the shirt is designed to fit a heavier person, especially in the waist.

This is a really nice shirt- warm and comfortable. My husband had gotten one 2 years ago and wears it often in cooler months. My brother liked it too so I ordered him one for Christmas. He always wears a size medium but told me this one was very wide across the back. He's exchanging it for a small.

Excellent quality but suggest ordering one size smaller than the usual, the shirt is cut extremely large.

This is a very well made chamois flannel, thick, and with the promise of years of warmth and wear. If it was true to size would definitely have been a "keeper". Regrettably, the medium was more like a large - way too roomy in the belly, and too long in the sleeves. We sent it back for a refund, as there was almost no selection to replace it.
4 stars for the high quality construction and fine choice of material.

Love this classic shirt. Ordered one for my husband for Christmas to replace one he had 45 years ago on our wedding trip. He normally wears a size medium. I was rather surprised and disappointed to find that this medium is way too big on him. Am re-ordering a small. I sure hope that will fit better.

This is a great, VERY warm and well built shirt! You can tell that it will last for decades. My only thought is that it runs larger than I expected. I'm 5'9" 170 lbs and I'm almost certain that I could've settled with a medium. The sleeve length is slightly long, but the shirt is much longer than I expected, thus leading to a lot of material. I plan on exchanging for a medium. You may want to order one size down on this one!

I ordered two Chamois shirts in size large tall. One shirt was made in Nicaragua and fit was pretty well, the other shirt was made in El Salvador and is bordering on being too large. I have older Chamois shirts that I bought where the fit ran on the small side. The shirts are very well made and comfortable it just seems like sizing needs to be tweaked for consistency sake.

I have been buying these shirts for years and have always thought highly of them. In fact, the last three shirts that I bought are a size smaller than my usual size because they are cut so generously. They are also among the softest and warmest shirts I have ever owned. That being said, I have recently found something that is becoming increasingly annoying: the pockets on the shirts are too short to accommodate a small smart phone (iPhone 6s). That is not only true of this shirt would also your canvas shirts. Fortunately, with those I removed all the buttons and replaced them with bits of Velcro. The chamois shirts are too heavy to do that with.

I am very pleased with this shirt. Excellent quality and very sturdy feel. My rating would actually be about 4.8 if that was an option. I would only suggest that the pockets be a little deeper (at least 1" deeper). Your average pen or phone is about 6" and the inside of the pocket is only about 4 3/4" deep, so the flap sticks up like a flag when you put something in it, which is a little dorky looking. (By the way, my profile nickname is supposed to be SuthrnMan4Christ. Don't know how that got changed.)

Initially wanted a yellow one, but it was out of stock. Next choice was navy blue, which was in stock and in the size I wanted. Easily ordered, paid, shipped, and received all according to the website. I am extremely satisfied with the purchase and with the overall experience. Thanks.

I answered no to the question "would you recommend to a friend", I would if he was either somewhat smaller or larger and I thought the shirt would fit him OK. I wear Medium size in almost every shirt, sweater etc that I own. Sometimes shirts run a little small and I go to a large. I ordered a medium in this shirt and it was huge. I returned it for a small and the small is a little tight. I'm going to keep it but don't think I would order again. Hope it doesn't shrink.

This is an American classic. You should own one.The quality is outstanding. It is a very thick and warm shirt.Or is it a jacket?Anyway the fit in size small did work for me because it was too tight in the stomach area. The rest of it fit very well.So I did return it.I know the medium would be too large. The older versions of this shirt fit me better.

It's a shirt. I could end there but will add that it's comfortable, very warm, and good looking. Because it's 100% cotton I bought a size larger. After a wash and dry it fit almost perfectly.

As long as you order up a size it's great. I purchased an XL size and it was like a bathrobe. I washed in hot water and is now a perfect fit.

This is a great quality chamois shirt, I bought the xl which my husband always wears in other brands, this ran a bit large, the color and softness are excellent though. Next time I will order a size down.

This shirt, while warm, comfortable and practical, lacks a variety of colors. Granted it only has colors that mesh with those an outdoors man would identify with, but some customers do their hunting and hiking from the recliner and thus do not restrict their colors. Please expand those available. My only complaint is that the pockets are unique and take a little adjustment for the wearer - not enough of a problem to remove it from the "I approve!" list.

Fits great, looks great, warm and thick. Haven't laundered it yet so I can't give it a 5. So good I bought another. The ideal winter all around shirt.

It's a nice shirt, but the material is thinner than the chamois I used to get...
The fit is perfect and it is of a decent quality.

A great shirt for the cold winters here in the north. Great alone or with a turtleneck underneath, it does wonders to keep husband warm on our coolest days. Washes beautifully and is soft and comfortable. Highly recommend .

Great product but.
DO not order your usual size these are way too big!
Being in the apparel industry for 30+ years i can tell you someone goofed.
Buy a smaller size although that wont help the length which is too long

I made the mistake of ordering the classic chamois shirt in the chamois color without reading prior reviews. I had several in my closet of other colors during the "Made in Mexico" era and presumed a large then is a large now. Wrong! The large fit me like an xxl so I exchanged for a medium which fit great in the body and a touch long in the sleeves, but acceptable. The shirt thickness and material quality is outstanding, but LL Bean must return to its traditional sizing convention or face the risk that customers (longstanding ones like me) will flee due to the inconvenience of managing returns. I've been buying from LL Bean since my high school days in the early 1980s and this sizing unpredictability has really shaken my confidence in ordering other items.
