I've had this jacket for about a year now and use it extensively during the fall and winter in Washington. It had held up great and despite frequent use both to work and out on trails it still looks brand new. The material is tough and has handled brush and 60 lbs packs with no evidence of wear. It's a little thick for the summer months but is the perfect fall /early spring jacket, or winter backcountry skiing or climbing.

I'm an avid outdoor enthusiast, I have multiple arcteryx pieces including two atom lt My husband gifted me the sl for my birthday and said this will be your new favourite.. he was right! It's a great piece for layering as well as a stand alone. The fit is so perfect with out being restricting at all to do any of my favourite activities.

Love this jacket, great layer for hiking and travelling, super light weight, looks good on the trail or in the city.

I love the fit. Great to be worn from Spring to Fall. Will happily layer over just a tee or a couple of layers. I literally live in it when out and about. Obviously won't handle serious cold (under 40) for extended periods of time unless you are on the move. I wear it for hiking and day to day trips around town. Will easily layer with a more serious waterproof too. Love it.

I bought this item before going out to Colorado for the summer and have nothing but positive things to say about it. I tend to run very warm (especially while moving) and finally found a jacket I can when hiking/scrambling at high altitudes. No more reaching for a light puffy that I know will make me sweat the moment I put it on, no more grunting it out by moving too fast to stay warm. I'm pleased to say I used this item climbing Maroon Bells, Castle, and La Plata and felt perfectly fine the whole time. Additionally, it also works perfectly for cool summer nights in the low 50s, and it's so light I pretty much always forget I'm wearing it!

I've had this jacket for one summer so far. It's a perfect all arounder for me! It feels like a soft comfy long sleeve although it's technically a jacket. In the summer temps it's perfect and i've found that It's actually a really good jacket for biking and hiking! I can fit it under another down later on cold nights and it doesn't feel like you are wearing too much. I enjoy taking this as a business jacket during travel and on airplanes as it's very versatile and keeps me from overheating or getting cold inside.

This lightweight jacket was exactly what I was looking for. Arcteryx products scare me because they are mostly designed for very tall, very slim women. I'm neither...average height, fairly curvy...but very active. In most clothing, I'm a solid size large or 12-14, depending on the garment. The XL in this jacket fits well, though I could use a bit more room in the hips. What makes this so near perfect is that I wear it for almost everything. Hiking, biking, walking, casual. I've even worn it snowshoeing on a sunny 40 degree day with a midnight base layer. It breathes well, has side stretch panels, adequately blocks wind and offers just a bit of insulation in the core for those times when I need a bit of a warm up, but not too much that I can't wear it on a summer evening when the sun goes down. The sleeve are a bit long, except when I'm biking, but not at all cumbersome. I simply fold the over once. I do wish I could pack this into one of the pockets and zip it closed for easier packability. A bit more width in the cut would be appreciated, and I wish Arteryx would consider offering regular or even relaxed cuts in their best-selling garments. Not all active women are shaped like a trekking pole. Otherwise, great purchase. No regrets despite the stiff price tag. I've had it for nearly a year and still appears new.

My partner got this jacket in Blue Onyx, a few months ago. I can report that she absolutely loves it. Not just because it is comfortable and a great fit. It is good in cool, windy weather, and on warmer days just over a T shirt. Not great in heavy rain, but everything else. But what a great colour! Great with jeansfor urban use, and looks really stylish. Sporty yet elegant. She is a UK size 10, and size S fits perfectly. I think she looks really stunning in it. Guys, buy this for your wife/girlfriend!

I own a vest, hood, and beta jacket, all in large. They fit me with a little extra room. Perfect! Now the cut has been changed and the large atom sl that I bought just fits. I read about the changes but the extra large would be too long in the sleeves and way too long in the body. I love the wait and quality of the product. Just confused on the change up of the cut.

I bought the Atom SL about 3 weeks ago. I am 5'4" and have a 44" chest. I bought the large and it fits. The thing I don't understand is why are all your models 6' tall and slim. I would have liked to see the hood on a shorter person to get a idea on how the sleeves and overall length would be. I have a of other jackets that large fits me on the more room side of things. Just wondering about why you have changed the way you coats are cut now?

A nice item, but there's something not quite right about the hood. Its lower lateral panel is not cut to be tall enough and consequently there's not enough material to contour to the neck and it pulls the top half of the hood down on the head in an uncomfortable way. It also slightly restricts the turning of the head to either side. That's my experience having tried it on.

I used to wear small size but now it is a little big and the sleeves are longer, so I switch to xs.

After getting the Proton Lightweight, I felt that it was still a bit too warm for the spring/cool summer days in the SF Bay Area and was looking for an even lighter jacket. I got the Atom SL thinking that the non insulated hood and sleeves would work for warmer temps and it did! I could wear this jacket casually in situations where I would feel like I would be too hot in the Proton Lightweight. The jacket is incredibly thin making it great to pack in a bag once it got too hot. It also does well with cutting wind during cycling as well and I have found myself reaching for it to use as a cycling jacket often. The non-insulated sleeves do feel a little off with the jacket however. A review I read once stated that it was more like a vest with sleeves than a jacket itself. I highly agree. I feel that thickness of the chest doesn't flow well with the thinness of the sleeves. Fortunately this is only cosmetic and I personally find that it isn't a deal breaker. An issue of functionality that I do have is the stowaway hood. No matter how I stow the hood away it always manages to look awkward and lumpy. Overall this is a great light jacket that offers super light insulation and packability. 8/10.

Great piece for layering or standalone in cool temps. Pockets are ideally designed. Softest synthetic layer I've tried. Feels like a well broken in hoody on day one. The hood is gigantic for a layering piece. I could easily get it over my largest helmet. I'm accustomed to this type of hood fit from a gore tex shell, not an insulation layer.

I'm in between sizes for sure. Large is always great in torso and arms but the shoulders tend to be tight especially with this jacket. On the flip side if I size up to XL I'm swimming in the torso but the shoulders fit. Great winter hiking softshell though. My gripe, as per usual, is the amount of lamination used. It think a lot of it is unnecessary and will create fail points limiting g the longevity of the jacket.

To be fair, I hate hoods. I rarely use them and they seem to cause more problems than they're worth (catching on packs, blowing around in the wind, obstruct hearing, and just awkward). I love, love, love this jacket but find myself not wearing it because the hood drives me nuts. Pretty please make a hoodless version for us beanie and ball cap gals.

This is my second Atom SL Hoody. I wore the other one out- had to retire and replace when the zipper failed. Versatile piece as a stand alone in warmer temperatures or layered in colder temperatures.

I use this jacket mainly for everyday wear and cycling in the city early spring and fall. It's nice for mild output activities, just for some wind protection and a little bit of extra insulation. Material is very nice and a small size fits me perfectly over a fleece with my skinny frame, could be just an inch longer. Cobalt sun is amazing colour, looks very sleek. I have used it for some hiking, running, mountaineering, but it is either too cold or not breathable enough for such activities and it is too heavy/bulky for the warmth it offers.

Love the insulation this jacket gives at a fraction of the weight! It's thin, but kept me warm even in 30 degrees! My challenge continues to be fit with Arcteryx products. I just wish they would be more consistent across their line. I recommend this jacket!

This is my second Atom SL Hoody. I wore the other out. I actually have a friend that saw me wearing it all the time and asked what piece it was and ordered one for herself! She loves hers too! My only disappointment was that the zipper tabs are now plastic rather than cord. Human's need to STOP the plastics wherever possible! Please find ways to reduce plastics in your product not add plastics!

This is a great piece of kit for every activity. I have used this as a mid layer for winter running and mountaineering. It breaths super well and keeps in a good level of warmth, even when wet from a proper horizontal Scottish rain! It's also a great mid layer for summer rock climbing and doesn't feel restrictive. I ordered a medium. I'm 5'10, 39in chest and still has enough room for another light mid layer fleece. What would make it really great would be having thumb loops for running. Definitely a jacket worth owning!

I bought the Atom SL a little bit too early in the season, so I'll write a follow-up once I really wear it in during the Spring and Summer. The reason I bought it early, though, is because my beloved Proton Hoody got snagged on a tree while skiing and I wanted to quickly replace it while the season was still fresh. I figured I would go a little lighter as the days warm up, and so that I can continue to wear it into Spring. For that purpose, it's much too light. For that reason, I am really looking forward to using it in warmer seasons. Some notable features are the cinchable hood and the tapered cuffs. One issue I always have with my Proton is that the wristband is super tight. Useful for keeping out snow, but prevents me from wearing or messing with a watch, which I use for navigation in the backcountry. The Atom SL cuffs are tapered to be longer on top, shorter underneath, and lay against my wrist but not so tightly that I can't access my watch. The hood has ample space when fully expanded to fit a bike helmet, but tightens in so I can run in windy conditions without letting too much flurry in. I've gone out in it for both of these activities a couple times, but like I said, there is still a lot of life in it for spring and summer. Extremely lightweight and packable, I will definitely be taking the Atom SL with me on summit runs, when I'll be hot all the way up until hitting the exposed, consistently windy ridges (running in CO, for reference). A great 14e (or 13er, or 12er, or any mountain top) companion in the making.

I am 5'7", 155 lbs and I got this jacket in a medium. I got this jacket for ski touring and cross country skiing on cold days, when a baselayer isn't enough but my shell is too warm. It has worked perfectly as intended! I tend to run hot and find the Atom LT to have a bit too much insulation when I'm working hard. The medium is a tiny bit snug in my bust (34DD) and for this I gave it 4 star. I understand this is a trim fit, and it does fit quite trim. It works for my purpose but if I was to wear casually (anything more than a baselayer) I would have preferred the size large. I got the enigma colour and its BEAUTIFUL!
