I love the look and function of this bag. The floppiness that others mention isn't a big deal to me. But the horizontal seam on each side of the bag has a metal rod inside of it for stiffness, I guess. We installed our fireplace last March and I used this bag maybe 10x last season and regularly this season (its 12/20 now so still early in the season) and found that the metal rods on BOTH sides of this bag have popped thru the canvas. I may return it, or just rmove the rods and see how it works. Or maybe I will return it and see if the rods pop out on #2 and remove them if that happens. Either way, I expect better from LL Bean and for the premium price.

the leather handles are very sturdy as well as attractive, but the canvas is floppy, and the carrier does not stay open to place items in it

Purchased this as a gift for a family member. The item they received did not look like the item we selected from the website. The color was purple/blue not the grey they showed.

This is a durable, and well-crafted carrier, no question. I've used it quite heavily for several seasons, the handles show no sign of giving up, nor do any seams... but as another reviewer mentioned, the one thing this needs to do to be of actual help is to stand up, and it doesn't!. The nylon version does, and I'm returning to that design, and will use this to carry axes and wedges. I'll miss the look, but once it collapses, it just is a hassle.

I am recommending the product with reservations - I ordered one to give to my brother for Christmas maybe a couple years back. It was beautiful. I decided to get one for myself, to carry firewood from the basement. This one had marks all over it, and looked beat. I don't know if it had been damaged in transit or the product has changed. The box was torn open but with the plastic bag intact I don't know if that could have affected it. Also too large to sit nicely inside the tin holder I keep firewood in. If it had been as expected, I would have tried to make it work as it is a beautiful product when done right. Exchanged for the storage tote as I didn't want to take another chance.

I thought this carrier looked great on-line, and it is not bad, but I had two disappointments. First, I really wanted one that would stand up for loading, but although this is better than most, it does not really stay open. The sides flop over. Second, the color is not true to the picture. It's more of an army green which is okay, but not as nice as the more subtle color on my monitor. It's good enough, but at $59, I think it's quite expensive, and although I won't return it, I would not buy it again.

We have had an LL Bean Dura-tough carrier for years and decided to replace it because the fabric has extremely faded, otherwise as sturdy as ever. Decided to "upgrade" and ordered the waxed canvas carrier thinking it had the attributes of the Dura-tough but with nicer looking, longer lasting canvas and more comfortable leather carry handles. Turns out it is smaller in size and does not stand-up when empty for easy log loading. We heat our home with a wood stove using the carrier daily, so putting up with a smaller, floppy bag was not an option. We returned it an ordered the Dura-tough carrier.

While this is a well functioning log carrying bag, it arrived with much wear on its waxed canvas and it's handle is already beginning to fray after a few weeks. I love the idea of it just wish it the material was more durable on it.

I read previous reviews and based on these was enthusiastic about purchasing the log carrier. However, it does not stand up the way the image makes it appear. When putting logs in, the bag lays flat unless you hold it up, and then when placed on the hearth the sides fall down spilling the logs. The fabric is nice, but overall, the product is disappointing.

This carrier seemed very nice and functioned well at first, but after transporting less than two cords of wood, the ends of the wires, which run along the sides of the carrier to give it shape, wore through the carrier. They ripped many clothing items and the carrier can no longer be used--that is, it lasted less than 1/2 a season.

The log carrier has some leather parts, for example the LLBean logo is leather, but the main handles are some kind of pleather. Fortunately for me one of the synthetic handles was damaged on arrival, so it was obvious underneath the damage that the handle was just fragile polyurethane or vinyl as you can see in the photos.
LL Bean customer service was as disappointing as the bag. Instead of just fixing the problem quickly (providing a full refund including shipping and a return label for a defective item) the representative agued with me that "the handles are indeed leather" and pointed me to a long form I needed to print out and send. I decided it wasn't worth my time to try to deal with it any longer, but I learned my lesson. LLBean products are not what they used to be, and they don't stand behind them anymore either.

Didn't even last a year without tearing the handles almost completely off while only being used by 9 and 11 year old child carrying it.

We were looking forward to getting and using this firewood bag but when it arrived it was all scratched and scraped. It had clearly either been used and returned by someone else or was poorly made cheap materials that scratches easily. Either way we felt like if it was that easy to damage how was it going to hold up hauling firewood? For that price it's clearly going back!
