We bought the large bed when our puppy was 5 months old, thinking it was big enough when she was an adult. After a year and 90 lbs, we bought the x-large and it suits her size perfectly. But I'' not sure a Great Dane or St. Bernard would fit this bed.
The bed is very thick and resists her weight. Lots of other dog bed manufacturers use cheap foam that breaks down or has zero support.
Washing the cover is very easy. I usually tumble dry with no heat for an hour, then line dry outside away from direct sunlight. This way I have avoided shrinking the cover. This seems to keep inserting the foam back into the cover easier than if the cover shrank from the dryer.
Although my dog is a heavy chewer, she has never attempted to tear this bed up. The cover material looks like it's made from heavy tarp canvas. I can't imagine this cover would ever wear or rip a hole.
Who knew LL Bean would be my go-to for dog beds. These are a little pricey, but I guess you would spends as much or more replacing cheaper beds that don't hold up.

This is my second dog bed of this kind. We got a new dog, that has graduated to a bigger bed. The first one was a little more difficult to put the mattress back in. This one, seems the company ihas listen to us and made the cover a little bigger. And it was not as hard to put the dog bed back into the cover. But the quality is excellent. And I would buy again next time. And one of the best features are, the zipper is a hidden and tucked behind fabric. So doggies can't find it!!

Unlike some reviewers ours popped into shape within an hour or so.
Unfortunately he doesn't like it as much as the regular rectangular bed he had ( the other dog still has one of those and he is always lying on it)

Love the quality of this bed. I have three of them. One negative point is that after washing the cover do not dry in dryer. It is very challenging and tight to put it back on the egg crate.

This is the second bed I've bought , the first one is about 10 years and still using it . I have 3 big dogs put them together and they all lay on them at the same time . They love them too!

My 120 lb Cane Corso loves his new dog bed. We will be getting him another one but will consider a large since the extra large bed seems bigger than he needs.

This is my 3rd time purchasing this dog bed for my two dachshunds. They last but I replace them every few years due to the odors that get in the foam part of the bed. Nice quality and you can't go wrong. As far as the complaints about the foam not laying flat. After you unroll the foam, I go ahead and place it in the cover. It adjusts itself. My dogs slept on it the same night it arrived in the mail.

We got one of these for our lab puppy for his 1st birthday almost 10 years ago. It wore like iron, and still looked good when we decided to replace it recently with a different color. If possible, the new one is even better. The denim cover is sturdy and slides on and off the foam mattress even more easily than the old bed. It machine washes and dries easily.
Most importantly, as our dog is now in his 11th year, he finds it very comfortable after roaming our rural property and chasing critters.

Bed looks nice and is durable. It is difficult to get the cover back on after cleaning. Would be nice if the zipper could open on at least 2 sides instead of the just one

Our dog has loved this bed for about three years. She is a habitual digger, and she digs vigorously, despite being a senior dog, every night. We got a year and a half our of each side of the cover, and it's time to replace it. Overall, we are very happy with it and so is she!

Very nice bed but my dog can still tear the canvas while making a spot to sleep. I got 4 years out of my first, this is a replacement as the canvas and the foam we're going,

The dog (10yrs old) likes her new bed. The only issue is getting the therapeutic insert back inside the cover after washing!

This dog bed is amazing. Super comfortable, very durable (going on 8+ years of ownership), can vacuum off hair quickly, and easy to wash. HOWEVER, putting that foam insert back in after washing it is a STRUGGLE. Holy lord I feel like I'm wrestling a toddler. I'm literally heavy breathing after. Once back together, it's great again. Wish there was just a littttle more room in the fabric but not a deal breaker. My 60lb rescue husky mix loves it and so does the cat!

It's perfect for my 90lb Golden Lab for his overnight sleep next to my beside. Only challenge was inserting the foam mattress in the cover.

Dog seems to like bed so far, but you have to let the foam pad breath for a few days before you are able to fit cover over it. For the price you should be able to us out of the box

I have been buying these quality beds for years. They are comfortable, attractive, and durable. The reason for giving it four stars was because the monograming is no longer placed on the top of the bed. It is now placed on the edge. Oh well, I guess times change.

My dog is a 90 lb. yellow lab. and loves this bed. As soon as we put it down he went on it and went to sleep. He's getting older and has some joint issues and this bed is just right for him. We have bought him other beds where he kept moving around trying to get comfortable, but with this bed I notice he just lays down and falls asleep. It was expensive, but looks well made and I hope he has it for years to come. My only thing reason I did not give it five stars is because the cover is not waterproof. That said, we liked it so much that we bought another one to keep in another room for him. (yes, he is spoiled!). Also, I have caught the cat sleeping on it too.

Bought the foam mattress dog bed because our vet advised it would be better for our 12 year old dog with recently diagnosed back and hind leg problems from arthritis. No problem with bumps or the mattress having fold marks. Placed it into covering right away and it still "plumped up" after several hours. Appears firm. The only problem is that our dog does not use it that frequently. I think she would rather sleep in a bed with sides (like her old bed) even though we have placed the LL Bean bed so that it has something at her back, and it is in the same place in our bedroom where we had her old bed (which she did not use that much any more either; that one seemed to be too soft). She starts out on it if we pat the bed when we retire for the night, but she always moves to the carpet in various areas before morning.

Our dog loves this bed although it is pricy. It has a soft, sturdy and washable cover and is good looking. Great buy!

This is a great bed. My dog really likes it. I like the cover and the fact I can unzip and wash it. The "but" is that this bed is not the standard size for a dog crate, which is where I use it. I am thinking of cutting it down to fit, but haven't yet. Not LL Bean fault- I could have checked the measurements. Good bed- just not intended for a standard dog crate.

I like the bed, however, I wish it had a softer covering. Fleece maybe? The size is great and the memory foam mattress is good. My dog seems to like it and has room to stretch out without falling off the mattress. The memory foam will be good as she ages. She is 8 yrs. old now.

4 and 3.5 years ago, when my two English Mastiffs were weeks old puppies, I bought two of the extra large therapeutic dog beds for them. I had hoped these beds would last the dogs' lifetime (generally 8-10 yrs). That might have been a bit presumptuous on my part, although others have reported having their beds as long or longer. Today I have purchased two large therapeutic beds with the barrier covers. I went down a size because my dogs are tall and leaner than most Mastiffs (136 and 145 lbs) and they don't come close to using the entire bed and don't like to share a bed, so this saves me money and floor space. I am only giving their extra large beds four stars instead of five because there are multiple holes in both covers. I think these initially developed when my dogs chew on toys or bones on the bed and then they are enlarged when I wash the covers (approximately every 1-2 weeks). I would just replace the covers, except the foam mattresses are disintegrating. I'm unsure as to why this is, but every time I take the covers off, I am covered in fine yellow particulates, as is my floor. At least one of the egg shell pieces comes off in a neat little triangle from one of the beds too. I'm tired of dusting myself off and vacuuming every time I wash the covers. That being said, these beds are amazingly comfortable and I don't want to risk my dogs' joints getting achy by not purchasing the therapeutic beds. I hope that the mattress covers will alleviate the mattress decay this time around.

Bought one of these beds years ago and decided to purchase another for a different location in the house. Very well made, but the quality of the memory foam inside is disappointing. Not near as supportive as the original.
