Love the shoe! except for the insoles. The thing insole always seems to slip and bunch up down by my toes when they get wet and the trail gets steep. Seems like if they were slight thicker with a little more rigidity this wouldn't happen.

I love this shoe, I really do. And I want to run long in it, but after about 9-10 miles in the UG, I get some nasty big toe and small toe blistering. The last of the shoe is a bit too narrow. I'd love to see a wider version made of this as the demand is there (and will continue to be). Even my SenseRide 4 fits wider forefoot better in the same size. I also feel the tongue is a little overkill, a little warm, but will feel great in winter. Nice job Salomon!

Wanted to try this shoe in real conditions. Ran an tough event this last week and put them to the test. Very stable and great cushion. I was worried about the tight toe box, but they felt good all through the event.

Glad I picked these up just to try Salomon's first real attempt into cushioned trail shoes. These are great, good grip. My only caution is for folks with a wider forefoot, and a wide ball to the big toe. I consistently am blistering (even in good socks, yes) after 8 mile runs, so not sure this will be the pick for an upcoming 25K. Might slip back to SenseRide 4, despite the firmness. So TRY before you BUY if you can, in person, would be best. Great cushioning, just about foot shape. So if you're "perfect" in Altras, this is especially for you!

So I watched and read a million reviews of these but still had loads of questions before I took a punt on them. So here goes answering those for any potential UK buyers out there:
Sizing Length - I have found everything on this shoe; runs small, true to size and "size down!" well if you look at Salomon's sizing charts you will see they are half a size smaller than you would normally get for a UK size and this is true in real life. I run in Saucony road shoes and the UGs are comfortably a half size smaller than those, they are very similar to Adidas sizes, I am a UK 10 in Saucony and a 10.5 in Adidas and a 10.5 in the UGs.
Sizing Width - this is the biggie. I havent run in Salomon before, but have in Nike, Adidas, Saucony and others. I also have the unfortunate issue of my right foot being marginally shorter (4mm) and wider (?mm) than my left foot. The Saucony's I run in are "D" width which are absolutely perfect for me and these are advertised as the same. Well I would say they are a D- my left foot is perfect, and I mean perfect for fit, my right foot I have a tightness (like a perfect ring) just back of the ball of my foot, where mid foot meets fore foot. On the first 10k run it didnt materialise as a blister but I do wonder about longer runs, I hope the material gives just a bit and then it will be fine.
Ride - I was expecting something similar to my Saucony Rides; well let me tell you these are still firm compared to them, I bought Hoka Challengers at the same time and these are much firmer. I am 1/2 stone heavier than ideal at the moment and it shows, any firmer (or heavier!) and I dont think I could run in these over firm ground. for reference I run on canal tow paths, gravel and stone, hard packed dirt and road at the moment,
Quick lace - this honestly is fantastic, I have heel slip on my right foot (as its smaller) with virtually all shoes, even when I heel lock lace tie, these however are brilliant, virtually no heel slip. In terms of tucking, the key is to get the toggle tucked into the lace garage and back under the top cross laces, do that and it will never come out. This will take a little work if you have your laces super tight but honestly if you cant work it out well....
Materials - this is a light, well put together shoe but like most trail shoes it has a stiffer upper than road counter parts, reckon ill need 50k to break them in properly.
Eyelets - some have commented the top metal eyelets hurt there ankles and are too far up, well for me with my heel slip they are perfectly places to keep things locked down, I wear running socks and have absolutely no issues with this
Outsole - i was expecting a firmer outsole with less ground feel, however these are actually comparable to running on trails with my old Saucony Rides, you feel a lot of the trail without it ever being uncomfortable.
Hope that helps, will leave another review in 200k..

As others seem to have also experienced, the insole is slipping a lot, especially as the run goes on and the feet get a bit wet. Started happening on the very first run. Super frustrating, granted it is the height of Summer and my feet are likely drenched in sweat. Otherwise it's a good addition to my other Salomon shoes but going to need to glue the insoles down before I use them again.

Only one problem, inner soles may move inside the shoe. It happed to me twice in a downhill with wet shoes. Would be nice to fix this bug.

I wanted to give this shoe a 5 star review so bad... as there is so much to love about it. And dont get me wrong, this shoes pros outweight its cons, but the cons are so avoidable by Salomon it just makes me wonder how they didn't catch these issues in testing.
Pros - Truly comfortable ultra distance shoe. I just wore for the Leadville 100. Not a single issue. The fit is amazing and the locking system that Salomon is known for is on point again.
Cons - The insole is the WORST!! I am not sure who was responsible for chosing, or deciding not to glue the insole, but they might need a new job. At the first sign of any moisture the insole imediately begins to shift around. Super frustrating. They obviously didn't test this shoe anywhere with water crossings or humidy.
Also, I feel the break in period is about 40-50 miles. The upper feels a bit stiff across the toes until this point. After that the shoe is perfect.
So either glue your insole, or trash it and replace it... after that youre going to have a much more enjoyable experience.
Overall, I am stoked on this shoe. Already have 2 pairs and will def have more.

A great first version of a shoe I hope will take a couple steps forward for v2! I run trails in Vermont and NH which are generally very technical. I wouldn’t say these are the best choice for very technical trails, but at slower speeds do alright. There are only two areas that I would argue could be improved. The first is forefoot protection. I’m not sure why Salomon left out the profeel film (rock “plate”) as you can feel the small stones and roots, which for an ultra show is not what you’d want. Not a deal breaker, but it limits its use. I’ve only taken them up to 12 miles, but will be curious how my feel would feel after 20 miles. The other issue is the upper. Very built up which I’m sure will aid in durability. But these don’t breathe all that well in hot and humid weather and once they get sweaty or wet? They stay that way and don’t dry particularly fast. Lost of think foam on tongue and heel just soak it right up. But overall a solid shoe and one I look forward to running more miles in this fall.

I took a photo of the soles after my first walk in the new Ultra Glides - Based on where the road dirt shows, the low profile of the lugs and the softness of the midsole translate to the sole deforming and more of it contacts the ground than I'd expect.
Fit for the upper is similar to the Speedcross 5, snug and works surprisingly well for my low-volume feet. The length of the tongue makes stashing the end of the speed lace a bit of a challenge, but it works fine.
Feel on our walks (~ 15min/mile pace) is similar to the other cushioned running shoes I own. That is to say they are comfortable and the heel rocker allows a smooth gait.
Overall I'm glad I now have these in rotation.

I have been waiting for this shoe ever since I heard it first announced and was psyched to get a pair not long after it was released. I've put about 40 miles on my pair and at 180 lbs, I would say I'm a "heavier" runner. There is so much to like about this shoe and I'm not going to hit every spec, but would say that this is a shoe to check out if Salomon has never quite worked for you before. I have wider feet and never had problems with most of their models and have run miles in the Sense Ride, Sense Max and Sense Pros. My main gripe in the past with most Salomon was that I just wanted a little more give, a little more soft cushion and the Ultra Glide delivered. Now also having run in different Hoka models, these are not "max cushioned" in my opinion. I live in Vermont and while we have non-technical, easy-rolling trails, if you want to get out and run in the mountains, or even most backwoods trails you're going to be dealing with lots of rocks and roots (same goes for NH) and even in the summer, they are often damp. Many of the mountain trails are about as technical as you'll find anywhere and you can run miles and not touch dirt. And this is where my biggest issue with the Ultra Pro arises. Leaving out the Profeel Film in the forefoot is BAFFLING to me. I can feel every little stone and root I run across and for an ultra shoe that's not a good thing. I have run almost 200 miles this summer in the mountains of VT and NH and have used a pair of Sense Pro 3 for all of them. No issue with protection underfoot. Ultra Glide? not so much and for a shoe with a good deal more stack height, that's discouraging. I know that they're added a firmer piece of foam and maybe after it gets compressed more it will be more effective? But at the moment I wish they had that protection of the Pro Feelfilm and hope it gets added to v2. In ultras it wouldn't be common to run miles of gravel and these, in my opinion, are not protective enough. The only other issue? Not super breathable and so when your feet get really sweaty and damp, they'll stay that way in hot and humid weather and maybe that's from the fairly built up upper. But in the end I'm enjoying them!

Just got mine yesterday and heading out soon for the first run in the mountains. They feel GREAT on, so feeling positive. I only came on to comment on the VERY misleading color shown in the photos for the black shoe and I find this is the same for every other retailer who is selling. One of the photos shows basically a black upper, then in other photos, you see the top of the shoe as a light or medium range of grey. On the outsole it also shows a patch on the heel as black. I ordered assuming that the shoe would be partially grey. It is not (or at least not the shoe I got!) and it grades of black like the very first photo, which as you can see looks ENTIRELY different than the second photo. There is also no black patch on the outsole as it is all red, but shows black under the sole in the forefoot. So not a huge deal because I actually like the black better, but VERY misleading so unless I got the one black shoe out there, know what you're ordering or check first. Salomon, any idea what's going on here?

Reviews online had praised its plush cushioning, but I found the cushioning a bit too firm compared to the Speedgoat 4's that I'd been running in. Still, a much more relaxed, comfy Salomon shoe than any I've worn before.

It's really disappointing how few wide shoes Salomon offers. I got these to try something different. They gave up pretty quickly. The soul and sides did not provide the same support as a speed cross. To be fair my feet are hard on shoes. But these are just lower quality.

What I like: The looks and color, QuickLace, good traction. What I don't like: Narrow toe box, not as cushy as Sense Ride and annoyingly difficult to 'park' the quicklace into the tounge.

I bought these just over a month ago and they are very comfortable with great traction and materials, but I am disappointed with the durability. While most of the shoe has held together very well, the tread in some spots is almost completely worn away and some of the nubs on the bottom are flat at this point. Great shoe, disappointing durability.

I ended up returning these shoes. Though the toe box was wide enough, the middle of the shoe was to tight around my feet, and having them on was uncomfortable. One other note, the pocket on the tongue where you tuck the drawstring was sort of awkward to reach.

I haven't tried running or hiking with these shoes yet. They are comfortable enough when the shoe is on, but I can barely get them on. The toe box area is wide enough for my wide feet, but the lace area is very small. The shoes look like they are much too small for my feet, with the lace area being so stretched out.

I tried the wide version but it did not work for me, so Lesson learn. If You have wide feet, go for a toe box type of shoes, meaning wide didn't mean the will be comfortable.

These shoes are great right out of the box! Light, comfortable, supportive for long miles. The tread, however, disappears quite quickly. I suppose this is due to the lightweight nature of the shoes, but for an "ultra" shoe I would expect more. I'm on my third pair of these and unfortunately they've all become noticeably less "grippy" around 200 miles. I still wear them beyond that but there is a decrease in performance around that point.

I have narrow feet and these shoes are too tight. They’re difficult to put on not only because they’re to narrow, but the laces move beneath the tongue and the heel of the shoe mushes down.
