They are ridiculously tight - the velcro strap barely closes. My child has an average foot and we don't struggle to close shoes of the same size in any other brand. It feels like there are two problems: too much stiff padding on and around the tongue, and an extremely short velcro strap that seems more fashion than function.

The shoe is too tight on the top part of the foot. The Velcro barely connects. This New Balance shoe is awkward fitting. I wish I could return them but my 6 year old son played outside with them on.

My 6 yo son loves these red shoes. He has very wide feet with high arches (feet like bricks!) and they fit him well.

Fit and size was good. Looked good on my son.

My son is on his second pair. It's one of the few pairs of (attractive) shoes we've found that accommodate his wide feet with high insteps. We went with the XW to give his instep more room, and they're perfect. The navy doesn't show wear and tear, and they wash well.

If your child does have wide feet the bungee option may be too snug on their feet. That's what we ran into

These shoes are a great find!

I feel like New Balance makes the best tennis shoes for boys. They run a bit wider than most. Always have many choices of colors. They wear well and you can put them in the washer.

I’ve bought a few of these in smaller sizes, but they changed the style recently and these fit a bit tighter now. It’s difficult to find shoes that fit my son’s very wide feet so I take what I can get, but these aren’t the best fit

Nice looking, comfortable shoe but the quality is AWFUL! It falls apart within 2-3months after daily wear. The quality is totally unacceptable for a sneaker this expensive and for New Balance in general. The Velcro straps rip off so you’re unable to fasten them, the mesh is prone to holes and the front piece easily detaches!

These sneakers are the worse New Balance shoes we have owned in years through three children. We have had them in a rotation of 3 shoes for the past 6 weeks for an 8 year old. They are the newest, yet look the oldest/worst. The stitching pulled out in several spots, including along the hook and loop closure. Past sneakers have lasted at least 4 months, often longer.

Poor item quality- tongue pulled out of shoe within first week of wear.

Great fit, proper wide sizing, and fairly durable. Will buy again.

Comfy and work well for my kiddo.

My 8yo boy usually wears out shoes in a matter of months. These shoes have lasted about 8 months and still doing ok. Only buying new shoes because he needs a size up (why aren’t they in stock?!). Think key was buying correct size and width (was buying too wide).

My son likes these shoes and said it only took a day to feel comfortable in them.

These are great sneakers. Indeed XW and my son loves them. These are the only schoes that helped with sensitive feet syndrome - he said he didn’t feel socks in them. He has wide feet and high arch, so were on various models and brands from wide to extra wide, and these fit him the best. I can see why some reviews mention tightness in the top - while Velcros work fine for us, they are on a shorter side.

My 7 year old loves these and they have held up well to several months of wear and light abuse. He’s fairly hard on shoes but these have no tears and are all in one piece. They seem to offer good support. If these are available in his next size I will buy another pair.

They look great, I ordered the wide fit but it looks and feels like the regular size. My son still likes either way did not complain of it being too narrow.

My 9years old love them since he’s to lazy to tide other shoes. He came from school and try them. He love them and those are the only ones he wear to go to school.

The shoes fit well. My son love’s to wear them. They look great and are very comfortable. I like that they have a Velcro strap, which makes them easier and faster to wear.

WE ALWAYS ORDER THESE SAME SHOES FOR OUR DOWN SYNDRONE SON. THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES HE WILL WEAR AND XW IS HARD TO FIND. HE LOVES THEM. THANK YOU ZAPPOS FOR CARRYING THEM. NEW BALANCE ROCKS!

My son has extra wide feet and can't wear regular sneakers. I always have to order his shoes online and hope that he can get his feet in them. These XW New Balance sneakers fit great. He had no issues getting them on by himself. They are wide enough for his toes, none of them are squashed. No complaints of foot pain. The material has some give which increases the comfort. I have a feeling I'll be buying another pair once he moves up in size. I highly recommend these sneakers if you also struggle to find sneakers that fit.
