I only wear New Balance, this is the first time I've ever had to send them back. I tried so hard not too but it just hurt my foot too bad. The stitching on the left shoe I believe was stitched too tight. When I walked it pressed down on my foot causing me a great deal of pain. I also don't think the 840 v5 are as comfortable and cushioned as the 840 4. So sad about this.

I wanted to love these but I feel that the most recent pair and this have changed the styling enough to make the tow box a bit more narrow and wider toe box is one of the reasons I buy this style. Disappointed and overall not loving the direction they've gone in many of their shoes (all of my family wear NB and have for years).

I bought the v4 series, it is a good looking shoe, and I kept it to wear occasionally, but this model doesn't have enough support for my problem feet, I can feel too much of the ground. I have Morton neuromas, prior bunion and ankle surgery, my joints are hypermobile, so need something with a thicker sole for more support.

The 840v5 I just purchased are nowhere near rage quality and fit of v4. The shoe is deeper and rides too high on your ankles. The tongue is too long and rubs on your legs.

I am an avid runner. I tried on about 25 different running shoes in the store and these seemed to feel the best and actually have some arch support. I have run in them twice now and the heel cup doesn't seem to hug my heel like it should and the laces were cutting into my lower ankle a bit. Maybe I'm just getting old and hard to please.

I have 2 pair of NB 1080s that I bought years ago and I have worn them happily every day even as they began to wear out. Bought NB 840 this past month, tried them on at the store, ordered them online, wore them around the house for a few hours with plastic bags on them to keep them clean. Then wore them for the first time out of the house for my daily walk and was almost hobbling by the time I got home, heals , ankles and shins hurt. Wore them day two with same response. A day of rest then wore them again, same painful experience. I guess I'm done with NB, these will have to sit on my shelf since I'm sure they can't be returned now that I have worn them outside. Just sad.

I've always loved the fit of New Balance. These fit well in the toe, but they put something plastic around the upper lace hole and it rubs my ankle. Also, this pair is noisy when I walk. Overall not as good as my old ones. I would not buy these again.

I have a short very wide foot, as a result of years of shoes that are too narrow, I also have bunions on each foot. The 840 is a close fit but I have to insert 'shoe trees' to allow for the bunions. The 840v4 is a great fit in all regards, but I cannot find a store that carries a 7 2E. the shoe I got was the last one I could find. I have not tried v5. If you have any 7 2E v4 I would be interested in knowing the price and color. If the 7 2E v5 is comparable to the v4 I would be interested to know the return policy if the fit is not good. I need this shoe in a narrow and have not able to find. I need the narrow and this style. Yes there are people in this world with narrow feet. I have worn New Balance for years and was able to do so because of the narrow width and the ability to wear my orthotics.

No cushion in the front of shoe. Was not satisfied.

I ordered wide but they are not tho it says wide. Too much hassle to return

I'll admit, wore my v4's yesterday and found them more comfortable than the v5's. Both still do the job.

Not as comfortable as I thought they would be. Pretty roomy inside.
