Bought this 840 shoe for my 87-year-old mom who's very mobile and active. Picked the 840 because her regular shoe (940) wasn't available. She's always worn New Balance, which her podiatrist recommends, and the New Balance "Wide" width fits her foot well. The 840 started out as a comfortable shoe for her, hower the patterns on the bottom of the shoe quickly started to "grab" and catch on the floor as she walked. She had frequent stumbles because of this, and eventually took a fall when they grabbed on her carept. She's a little bruised but ok. She stopped wearing them immediately. Upon comparison to her 940's, the tread pattern on the 840's are "rectangular" in shape, and are deeper with sharp edges. The tread on her 940's are more of a rounded shape with curved (not sharp) edges. She's never stumbled and fallen in the many years she's been wearing the 940 (she gets new ones annually). We have since returned the 840's and ordered her a new pair of 940s, which is back-ordered by a couple of months.

I wish I could say they were great. Ive had walking shoes from NB for 15 years and never a problem. This was the fourth pair I ordered lately and thought they would work. They put my toes to sleep and they are the same size I've always worn. I wish I hadn't worn them outside so I could have returned. Oh well.
