I bought this for myself for walking. It fits fine, wide enough and with roomy toe boxes. But it has very moderate arch support.

These run narrow. Beware.

I suffer from peripheral neuropathy in both feet and it's difficult to find a shoe that fits well enough that I can be comfortable wearing them. New Balance, overall, seems to provide the best fit but some of their shoes are very uncomfortable, even though they are always the same, stated size.

Quick delivery and good packaging, as always. Fit was not as comfortable as other New Balance I've had, in the PAST. Good looking shoe, but is hard all around. Will not bother trying 1/2 size larger. Still in pursuit of shoe brands that are as reliable as Zappos!

The New Balance 840v5 was too short. Size was a 7 1/2 M and seemed 1/2 size smaller than a normal 7 1/2 size. The shoe felt like it would be a very supportive and comfortable walking shoe. I would have ordered a size larger but I don't do well with the dip on corner of outside of each heel. Sometimes the pictures online and in videos don't show how a heel is formed.

The width and length were fine. The moderate arch support was not sufficient for my high arch. I still pronated.

The shoe has very little cushioning. It seems NB has reduced the padding under the ball of the foot to make them wear out faster. Really wanted to like this shoe. Come on NB cushioning for the ball of the foot is a support for both young and aging feet!

New Balance keeps changing how they size their shoes, and it's annoying because there's no 840v5 that truly works for me. I was an 11 and 1/2 M in v3. In the v4, I jumped to a 12 M, but that was okay because the shoe fit. Now with v5, I have to buy two different sizes. I wear 11 and 1/2M with narrow socks, and a 12M with heavier socks. The 12 in v5 is considerably larger than the v4. And ironically, it's the reverse problem with the 860's. I really do love New Balance shoes, but please go back to your previous sizing.

I've been wearing the New Balance 840v4 shoe in a 10.5 wide with Superfeet insoles. The 840v5 shoe in a 10.5 wide has a sloppier fit and is looser over the toe box. The length is about the same. The laces cannot be tightened enough to adjust the fit to my foot without causing dimpling over the toe area. Back they go. This shoe doesn't work for me, but might work for somebody with very wide feet.

Strange color. Should be grey, but is more of a lavender purple. Shoes do not say V5. Is this an original 840 that had a defective color??

The width was good. And it was true to size but overall the shoes did not feel comfortable.

Ordered shoes 08/06/2022. These were my 3rd pair of 840's and they have always been true to size. These shoes were too small from the start, and rather than returning them, I gave them a chance by wearing them around the house. Finally decided to keep them and put them in service. After one wearing for real, my right foot was totally sore. Ended up giving them away, near new to a local charity. Have since bought 840v5's in the same 10 D size at a local retailer, and they fit like they should have right out of the box. Price + tax at retailer was the same as what I paid at Zappos. Lesson learned. If they're a fair priced item, use the local retailer first.

The size 8 that I usually buy from New Balance has always fit my foot. This one felt a little too short. My toes touched the end of the shoe.

I loved this color, and really wanted to like the shoe, but it just didn’t work for me. It had the wide footbed I needed, but the top of the shoe was uncomfortably tight around my foot. I went with the Brooks Addiction.

I wore the 840v4 model for many months. This one is definitely tighter than the earlier version. In particular, I feel the toe box is a little smaller and my toes feel cramped in the same size shoes. While I like the styling of v5, I don’t know if I will purchase another 840 series.

It was smaller than expected. Had to return.
