These fit accurately in size and width. They are very comfortable, like most Altras.

Super comfortable, plenty of room in the toe box. I was unaware that the front section was a mesh so I wasn't expecting them to be able to take on rain easily, but they are lightweight and very nice. Just gotta watch the materials when ordering online. All in all, love them! I ordered a 13 instead of a 12 because Altra's seem to run a little small, but I'm fine with that.

Lady with wide/tall feet. I just can't seem to get the right fit in women's shoes, even Altra's, so I'm back to the men's Superiors. Just tried on the new Superior 5s. Initial feel is just as comfy and wide as the old ones. Had to go a half size up to get the same fit though, 8.5 to 9. Here's hoping they hold up as well. These are my everyday wearing shoe. Will purchase another pair to switch out with.

Love this shoe. Glad I tried on in the store ahead of time, and made sure to order a half size larger. I compared these to the Lone Peaks, and these feel a lot more stable and not as much "walking on a cloud." That may work for others, but this is the level of responsiveness I was looking for. I did wear these on a few days of white water canoeing, and feel like they may have shrunk a little. Just something to keep in mind for an otherwise great shoe.

Really great tread and "light" overall feel for a trail shoe. I used this for my trail 50k and I absolutely loved the shoe! My only complaint was really my own fault. I purchased a size 11, but the downhills I ran were extremely steep so I should have gone up to 11.5. If you're running flat trails, this shoe would be awesome because of how protective but light they feel. But for the steep downhills I might go up a half size. Overall, comfortable shoe, nice wide toe box, good zero drop and protective feel without feeling overly cushioned. I will be buying another pair for trail running and maybe another just for being able to wear daily.

My third pair of Superiors and probably not my last! The fit is perfectly dialed, at least for me. The latest iteration is slightly smaller feeling than previous as others have mentioned, but for me it actually fits a little better. My fore and mid foot are mid wide, with narrow heels, and Superiors have always just felt right. New version heel is even more secure and improved. The only complaint is that I often want for a heavy duty version. Give me a Superior approach shoe! I wear Scarpa mountaineering boots and love them, but obviously overkill in a lot of situations. Problem is a lot of running/approach type shoes feel like high heeled narrow Italian dress shoes compared to the Superiors. I would absolutely love something like the Scarpa Ribelle Run ... half rubber rand, reinforced uppers, a sticky sole with some edging for a bit of scrambling, just in Superior form. Something that I could trail run the first half, then scree bash and scramble the the summit without needing to bring a second, more durable shoe. Bit of a niche, but a guy can dream!

Red Team member here! I love this shoe for speed work on the trail. The weight and traction are superb features! Also a great low mileage trainer or race shoe. FIRE UP!

I'm a big fan of barefoot shoes in my daily life but prefer some cushion for my running and marathon training and find Altra to be perfect for my needs. Though I love hiking and trail running I also live in a bit of a hiking desert so I can't justify a barefoot style hiking shoe AND a trail running shoe, I need one shoe to fill both needs. The Altra Superior is perfect for my needs. Lightweight, flexible, and responsive to feel natural when hanging around camp and hiking but enough cushion for me for my precious but infrequent trail runs up to 16-18 miles. I'd absolutely take them further if we had longer trails. I'm not much of a fan of them on the road, if the trail included meaningful stints on the road I think I'd prefer the Lone Peak or Timp but I've yet to find a distance for true trails that I find the Superior to be not enough shoe. All in all a great "do it all" outdoors shoe for me!

I have several Altra shoes and when conditions change and I'm not sure which shoe to take on the day, I always end up choosing the Superior. Great grip, low profile and precise, I always feel fast and secure on technical downhills and they even perform well on the road to go home. If cushion is not your priority, pick this one.

My podiatrist had recommended this brand to me because they have a wide toe area. This is perfect for me as my toes were tingling in my HOKA's. I read other reviews and they said to order a 1/2 larger which I did. They are perfect. So if you order get the larger size.
I'd also recommend:

A lot has been mentioned about the fit of this shoe so let me address that. They have a wide toe box. They're not "wide width" shoes and I don't normally wear those. They have a similar shape to Keens or Merrell's Bare Access line (RIP). I am a true size 12. It's what I get when I buy any other kind of shoe. In the Merrells, I would order and 11.5 because your toes should be very close to the front of minimalist shoes. I ordered a 12 in these and it's a good thing I did as my toes are MAYBE a mm from the front of the shoe. They fit perfectly and feel great!

This is by far my favorite out of the 10+ Altra's I've tried. The Superior 3/3.5 performed great, but it looked like a child's shoe and didn't have a rubberized toe. The Superior 4/4.5 looked sleek, but had no support and gave me mad blisters from the slipping. I almost gave up on Altra all together, but giving the Superior 5 a final chance revealed the best running shoe I've ever used. It performs above average on technical ridges and flowy singletrack, yet is not sluggish on pavement, and fits my foot perfect. So far the durability is great, aside from the lugs wearing down a little quick. Great move, Altra. Please don't take this out of your line-up for a long time!

I love this shoe, I love it so much I run on the trail and road with it. It's minimal but still has the perfect amount of cushioning for its purpose. I like the mid and upper on it and really have no complaints. My favorite part is the material it's made of. It gives the shoe great flexibility on the trail. Lastly I think it's just a great looking shoe.

Gotta be the best shoe with cusion for a barefoot runner or a minimalist or someone training. I wish they were more flexible to be able to get proper mid foot or forefoot strike but still the best!

Awesome shoe but fabric over the toe box is a little odd. Due to my funky toes, all the knuckles were painfully obvious and showed through the fabric.

Really nice shoes, I love Altra shoes because of the wide toe boxes and the quality. Unfortunately I ordered a mens 8 instead of a womens 8.

Great shoe. I now have three pairs: Green, White and Grey. They're all outstanding and I use two of them for trail running, running and even golf. They're made out of a unique material that is very moisture wicking and breathable. The White are used for my more casual shoe and not used for training, they're great looking and I get tons of compliments. Only downside to all of them is until they break in, they're a little slick on wet tile or things of that nature, but overall amazing shoes and will be purchasing more pairs once these are destroyed.

My first Altras. Found them slightly used which helped me take the plunge as I wont spend over $100 on shoes typically. Tried them on and loved them. Size 11 fit great (but I'm a size 9.5) even had them pull some fresh 10.5s to try and yup, too small. Just got some Lone Peaks and had to go down to a 9. So you can't reliably buy Altras online but that is OK and they do offer returns. Running in these is great and I enjoy the removable rockplate. Seem to be quite durable thus far. Havn't gotten too much wet trail running in yet but I suspect these may be slippery. Next version would love to see the vibram light outsole they tried on the Mont Blancs! Overall: light, fun, fast, protective yet responsive, great lockdown with burrito tongue.

Really enjoying my first few runs in the new Superior 5's. The look, the feel, the quality is the best yet I've had from Altra. Stoked to see this model in future years!

Had the escalates for two season and have developed ball of foot issues due to too much padding. Enter the Superior 5. Life changer very literally. I put it in and immediately fet relief. Roomy toe box with fitted heel, which is a difficult balance. Enough room for a tall instep and OUTSTANDING road feel with enough padding to keep me protected and bruise free. Stoked on these. Going to buy another pair for when this one gives up the ghost.

Using these kicks for hike and trail runs. Most comfortable shoe I've owned for adventuring. Wasn't sure about the burrito lace system in the store, thought it might cause pressure point due to over tightening since my foot wasn't locking in like it does with standard lacing set up. Has been a non issue though. The rock plate does a great job don't even notice it. Lovely shoe.
