Very well made shoe. It's great on rocky ground as well as smooth trail and pavement. Great value.

I have looked at this shoe for years and finally purchased a pair from a local retailer. They scream "put me on and let's go for a hike." I have backpacking boots, but for everyday use and long walks on dirt roads and trails, these are my new go-to. They accept an aftermarket insole without changing the fit. They have been out in miles of dirt, mud, and snow. I am really impressed with the sole from a comfort and protection perspective. My Chameleons provide much more protection than my running shoes. I have worn them barefoot and with a wool sock. From the pictures, they looked flat but there is a heel (a good thing for me). Glad I tried them on and will purchase another pair. I don't intend to use them as climbing shoes, mountaineering/backpacking boots, or while woodcutting. Every day grab and go. Age 63.

I've owned a dozen or more Merrell shoes over the last decade and these rate as one of, if not the best.

These are my 5th pair of Chameleon Stretch shoes. They are the best shoesI have ever owned. My first pair I ever bought I saw in a store and didn't really want to pay that much for shoes. I tried them on and I couldn't imagine how great they were. It made every other shoe seem clunky. They just wrap around your foot and you are one with your shoe and the traction is excellent. I love having then on and it makes me feel nimble. This version seems to fit better than ever. However I do have to use a shoehorn to get them on but I can't say enough about how much I love them, and I'm a guy who usually doesn't care about such stuff. These are the exception. I hope they keep making a version of these until I die because I don't ever want to be without them. They are the BEST!!

This is my third pair of Chameleons, so you can imagine I love them. For light to medium hiking and all day walking, I have had no better shoes! Tried many and keep coming back.
For me, there is no break in. They are comfortable out of the box. Took this latest pair on a trip to Mexico where we visited two archeological sites, hiked the jungle and hiked rugged rocky areas as well as trail walked. Put between 8-9 miles a day on average. All in perfect comfort.
Down side? Almost none. They are not quite as rugged as other full leather upper hiking boots. But they are also not claiming to be. What you gain is extreme comfort.
The souls are still pretty rugged and firm, with a bit of flex beyond what you would get from a typical hiking boot.
I will likely never be without a pair of Chameleons. PLEASE DON'T DISCONTINUE MAKING THEM!

Years ago, I had an earlier version of the Chameleon Stretch. It was my favorite walking/hiking shoe of all time. I wore those shoes until they literally fell apart. I thought that this style was no longer being made because none of my local stores carried them. When I discovered that Merrell still made the Chameleon and, in fact had upgraded its design, I was thrilled and immediately placed an order.
I am happy to report that the Chameleon 8 is as good as my former version, maybe a little better. Just like the old version, the Cham-8 fits my foot like a glove. There are no pressure points and the heal cup fits very snuggly. Although I no longer have my old Chameleons for comparison, it appears that Merrell has made this version slightly taller than its predecessor. Not quite a "mid" but taller than a hiking shoe. The difference is slight but the added support is noticeable.
My foot measures a US 9.5 D+. I bought a 10 D and the fit is great. The only thing that may be an issue for some is that the shoe can be a little hard to put on. While this shoe is technically a "slip on" the opening is tight. I ended up buying a shoe horn, (remember those), to help my heal slide into the shoe. This solved the problem.
I am happy to report that the Chameleon 8 Stretch, has become my new favorite walking/hiking shoe.

Great feel on your feet. I live in Florida so ventilation is important all year. The slip on constriction really sets these shoes apart from other in it's class

The shoes fit well. I took a short hike to make sure they did rub or become uncomfortable.
Good feel and goes well with the Merrill soaks.

SIMPLY THE BEST COMBAT FOOTWEAR AVAILABLE. All SF/JSOC swear by them, and they are the Contractors choice. MERRELLS are simply a cut above the rest. "Accept no substitutes-because there aren't any."

If your looking for a shoe that you can put on and pull just a tab and not be bothered with laces, look no further.. these are by far the best shoes out there for hiking, casual dress, whatever you like to do.. I plan to buy every color.. I found shoes that fit my liking and I will continue to let anyone that ask about them why they should have a pair too!

This is my second set of Chameleon 8s. After hundreds of miles of hiking in the Arizona desert, it became time to replace my first Merrells. This model is my favorite hiking shoe, low profile and comfortable even after several hours on the trail.
I started buying Merrells when my wife, who happened to purchase a pair of Merrell boots had a problem after only one season with her pair. Merrell immediately replaced her defective shoes with a new pair. With service like that, we both became longtime Merrell customers.

I have been happily a loyal Chameleon fan. I think I have owned a pair or two since they were first released. This line has taken me everywhere from hiking in Hawaii and Crete to the daily grind in a warehouse. They can handle anything that you can.

Merrell shoes have never let me down. I wear a size 14 and that is difficult to find in stores. I order my shoes online and Merrell shoes size 14 fit me perfectly. I currently have four pair. These latest ones are my everyday shoe. Very comfortable and have good soles!

Great shoes!!
Easy on, easy off, great on the trail from smooth, to rough, to loose rock these baddies handled them all looking good doing it and still looked good afterward! I have had about 12 pairs of chameleons over the years and these are keepers.
