The bag is very big and accommodating of all my overnight and weekend things. It holds all my electronics, hammock, under quilt, blanket, pillow everything with room to spare. But this bag if you're looking for a overnight work bag or hiking.
Super comfortable to wear and keeps you in a great position for hooking.

This 2021 redesign is a huge step up from the previous surge model (if you don't mind the absent side handle). This bag has plenty of storage pockets that will help you stay organized, especially for work or school. The fabric and back pack panel are solid features and overall both comfortable and clean.

This is the best Surge backpack in several years! Like the two large pockets on the front. And there are two pockets lined with soft material for your gadgets. And plenty of space for both a laptop and tablet. It's a winner!

Waited for this updated version of the Surge! Very happy I waited. Great feature that it can stand up now, with that said it depends on how you pack it. The water bottle pockets are great and hold a 36 oz yeti bottle. The size is great as a travel diaper/baby bag. The laptop sleeve holds a 15" MacBook Pro easily! The pockets are awesome and I love the organization! If you're thinking about it just get it!

Just got it today and instantly loving it. Great Product. You'll get more than what your paying for. Never got the chance using the previous model, but I think the 2021 model is just great. The Water Bottle side pocket is great and perfect fit for my Nalgenes. Too Bad North Face didn't include the Rain Cover. It could've been 10 out of 10 if there is one. Love the bag stand alone feature. Love the detachable hip belt. Love the padded Laptop compartment. Love it all. Thanks North Face.

This is my third Surge backpack. I got one about 12 years ago that I've ran through the ringer and loved. I got a replacement 3 years ago, but the shoulder strap came undone at the seems, so I sent it in for warranty and was able to get credit to purchase another backpack. I waited for this design and initial impressions are good. Compared to the 2018 version, these front pockets are much more useful, the middle organizing compartment is a perfect size, it stands upright on its own, and there is a compression strap at the base of the backpack that can narrow the bag down if needed. Looking forward to using this more!

This is the second one we had to purchase the first one the seams were coming undone where the zipper is. I would also say customer service is not always the best you have to pay to ship your item back, which can cost up to 30 or $40.

The compartment layout rocks...LOOOOVE the outer pocket interiors, gray and one side, white on the other...smart! Sits comfortably on my back...just wish the hip belt was beefier and had pockets.

Not good if you need a lot of stuff. I'm a nursing student and can only fit my laptop, 2in binder, 2 subject notebook, and a few miscellaneous pens, pencils, etc. My textbooks don't fit at all.
