Length was right but D width was way too wide. When laced both sides actually came together. Decided to return and not reorder as thought B width would be too narrow.

This is an excellent boot, and I really wanted a pair, but after decades of hoping and asking LLB still does not make it in women's larger sizes. I had to order a men's size in narrow, hoping it would fit. It was at least a size and a half too large. That's OK, as I am used to shopping with that big online shoe company that lets you return for free (this website would not even let me hint at the name), but with LLB it is expensive to return shoes and then try another size. So I returned them and just gave up. I guess getting a pair of quality LLB boots was just not in the stars in my lifetime. Please, all women are not 5'2" with petite feet!

The leather "uppers" stitching is fraying and has moved away from the rubber lower. Live in Alaska and we have a lot of wet weather so I wear them a lot. Comfortable boots, just thought they would hold up longer for the price. Shared one photo but there are other fraying issues.

I purchased this boot a 1/2 size below my actual size, and then discovered I need to likely buy a full size lower. That said, the shoe (now 1.5 sizes below my actual) fits like a baggy pair of pants on my feet, frankly, ugly looking (at a size and half below my size) and every time I wear it for any length of time, gives me a stunning case of shin splints. I will chuck this pair because life is too short for bad shoes. It looks pretty in the picture, though. And it is a very New England thing to wear. But quite useless except if you want to sit outside in snow.

I ordered a pair via the internet. I read the sizing instructions carefully, many customer reviews, and did what was recommended -- order a full size smaller than your normal footwear. Still the boots are too big. I normally wear a medium width, and my feet are sliding around side to side and the heel is too wide, too. I can see buying these boots if you are in a store and can try on different sizes until you get one that fits well, but if you're buying via the internet, be prepared to return. at least once, maybe 2-3 times, until you finally get that magic length-width combination. I was fully prepared to drive to the nearest Bean store (it would have been a +4 hr. round trip), but the store reviews said that they were invariably woefully understocked. So I gambled on ordering on-line and lost. What I truly don't understand is WHY, given the instructions on LLBean and the nearly unanimous customer reviews saying that the sizing is far off, why why why wouldn't LLBean change to standard sizing so that these problems would be far less frequent. Very disappointed.

This is the most difficult boot or shoe I have ever had to get on and off. I regret buying them or not returning them. I have only worn them one time and may never again. Money wasted.

I was in need of a new pair of winter boots -- something that was both warm and completely waterproof for sloshing through slush and puddles in the city. I went to the LL Bean store in Boston -- great staff, they were incredibly helpful -- and tried on probably fifteen different boots. These ones -- unlined -- were not my first choice. I went into the store wanting something lined -- warmth was key for me. But literally every single lined boot did not fit. I tried an 8, 9, 10, and 11 -- and even tried some women's sizes -- and they were all uncomfortable. So I took the risk and bought the unlined, which fits rather well, thinking at least I'd have dry feet. I wore them this morning and my feet could not have been colder on my commute -- achingly, painfully cold. I have no idea how these boots became such a classic if LL Bean has never refined their sizing. For all the talk of handmade craftsmanship, you'd think a little bandwidth could go toward perfecting a sizing system that doesn't require customers to sacrifice function for fit.

I like these boots- besides the fact that the material for the laces is too stiff - but I wore them all but probably 20 times and the stitching between the side of the boot and the heel fell apart and you can even see my socks. Unfortunately, this happened after the warranty expired because I keep them in storage when I'm out of state, so I didnt get to wear them all that much before they fell apart.

Was very disappointed in the stability of the boot. The heel is not the same size as rest of boot making it much easier to turn your ankle. So looked forward to good boots and everything else was good but returned because of instability of heel. If heel was flat would be great boot.

This is the first time in over 40 years of buying LL Bean products and these boots, that I am supremely let down. The other pairs I have used were always perfectly sized. These are almost flopping on me. Even with heavy socks and additional liners, these are too big and really try to rip up my heals. I tried the next size down and they are way too small with heavy socks. The older pairs I have had could be used both summer and winter and were just right. I'm not even sure if I can get any use out of these at this point. Somewhere, the sizing and manufacture of the rubber base has gone very wrong.

Only been wearing my bean boots for a week and the in-sole is already falling apart. The top material is rolling off and bunching up. Really expected more from these as their my first pair of bean boots. I will try a different in-sole but may try returning to the store in ct.

As a long time customer I was not expecting that the famous L.L. Bean 8 inch boots, the company's flagship product that launched L.L. Bean to world market recognition, would be shipped with such stiff leather. The customer service representative recommended I wear the boots for several weeks so the leather would soften even though it was uncomfortable against my ankles and lower legs while wearing medium weight quality Nike athletic socks. I advised the pleasant customer service representative that the boots were purchased to use exclusively when clearing snow and not for any other activity. The customer service representative next suggested I purchase from L.L. Bean their "Boot Guard" product for an additional $12.98 to help soften the stiff leather faster. I asked why the leather wasn't softened during the manufacturing process and if the company obviously knows the leather will be stiff why didn't they include the small jar of "Boot Guard" together with the expensive boots. The customer service representative said that was "An excellent idea" and she would forward it up the ladder. I have not yet received a complimentary "Boot Guard" from the company.

This was the most uncomfortable boot I ever tried on. There is no liner at all so if you don't have some extra thick socks, forget about it.

I cannot be believe I am writing a negative review for LL Bean. I have been a fan of LL Bean for 45 years ever since my mother gave me Christmas gifts from LL Bean. They were a little more expensive but the quality of the products and brand enhanced the gift as something special. But times have changed. For my birthday my wife gave me LL Bean boots. I noticed something strange, they were used. An opened before crushed box, scoffed tops of the boots, obviously walked in and no normal new shoe packaging. I contacted customer service for a return/exchange. The next set of boots: an opened box, no usual new shoe packaging, an obvious repacked return sold as as new. TWICE!! A sad day for me. LL Bean has lost it's premium brand status for me and I will never recommend them and never pay a premium price for their products.

The medium width was too wide for me. You used to make a narrow width in the men's 8".

These were a gift for my son. He wore them once outside in the snow and they were completely soaked. The leather was drenched. His socks were drenched. His feet were frozen. Poor little guy. I had to end up buying other shoes for the rest of the ski trip due to how wet these shoes got. Very unreliable.

I wear 13 1/2 Wide shoes. I originally ordered a pair of these boots in 12 W - they were too short (length) and too narrow. I gave them to our son. I ordered 13 W - and they were HUGE, unwearable, regardless of the number of sole inserts and thickness of socks I wore. The quality was good. I returned them. There shouldn't be that much difference between. Please fix this, LL Bean.

I ordered this pair to replace a pair that I owned. Same size and same VN#. New pair are probably at least one size smaller, had no lining at all (the old pair had a lining) and the workmanship is not at the same level as the other pair. Maybe someone had a bad day making shoes. They both say made in Maine.
