Strange fit for petites. Arms are very short, but way too big everywhere else. This went back.

I purchased this coat for my daughter's birthday in September of 2020. The coat ripped so easily. Did not expect such poor quality for such an expensive coat. She was hoping to have the coat for years, as she has done with previous coats, and it didn't even last the season.

I loved this jacket when it first arrived, but within a week there was a dime size tear in it (I didn't rub up against anything sharp) and feathers started leaking out of a seam. I'm highly disappointed with this purchase. The quality does not live up to the price.

Well they wouldn't approve my review when I included the name of a superior brand so Here's my redo. I've had another coat of a well known brand that shall remain nameless for almost 7 years. No problems, just worn and I was looking for an upgrade. I was excited to try LL BEAN because of the reputation of superior quality only to be horribly disappointed. The feathers poured out of this thing the moment I took it home and this was NOT warm. I live in Maine and went for a walk in 35 degree weather and I was miserable. Returned. I'll go back to the "brand that shall not be named"

I bought this jacket for my wife as a Christmas gift. After wearing it twice one of the seams on the arms split open with the feathers coming out. I brought it into the closest outlet and returned it no problem, but was surprised when the cashier said it was a common issue with these coats. If it is a common issue why don't they fix it? Anyways I came back to the store later with my wife to see if we could find a different coat she may like to get. While looking through the racks we find her coat we returned on the rack in the same condition not repaired! This was very disappointing and surprising since L.L Bean used to be known for quality. That said we did end up finding a fleece and it has been great so far.

My mom purchased this coat for me last Christmas and in the first week I had it, the coat got caught on something and tore in 2 places. When I called and asked customer service I was told to buy Gear Tape. The coat tore in 2 other places last winter, so now I have 4 patches of Gear Tape on a coat that does look beautiful when it is brand new. I would not suggest this coat for someone who is active though, unfortunately it is not durable.

So disappointed! I've never had a Bean's jacket in my life. I decided to save and purchase a high quality one. I had my heart set on this one. Within a few weeks, I noticed white feathers poking through the seams and that the thread was coming loose along the seams on the hood. I also had concerns immediately about the fabric ripping and discoloring which has been echoed among several of the comments. For $259, which is also the cost of a car payment, I want something that will last a decade. Yes, I said a decade because that's the reputation that Bean's had with Mainers growing up. It may not look great at the end of that decade but it needs to last that long for what they're charging. I also wasn't impressed by my in store experience when I purchased it. I needed a petite XL which was not available on the floor when I visited. I asked one of the associates for help and they made some disparaging comments about how they usually don't keep many "of that size" in stock. What? No love for petite large breasted women? C'mon people it's 2021, can we please move forward already and be inclusive with our sizing?

I owned the previous hoodless version of this jacket for 3 years and absolutely loved it....then I received this one as a gift and wore it casually for 1 month when I noticed a rip in the side and most of the feathers missing. I returned it to the store of purchase and was told they could put a piece of tape on it but that's all as it was not damage due to the construction of the coat. I am surprised that L.L. Bean wants me walking around in an almost $300 coat that was fixed with tape versus more proudly representing their brand with a replacement.
Let this be a warning if you are thinking of purchasing this coat that it can not handle 5-6 wears without ripping.

I like the coat, but am so disappointed at How easily it rips. There is down all over my house from all the rips and holes. I wanted this to be my "forever" down coat, but it didn't last the cold season. So sad and a waste of $$ :(

I have been buying from L.L. Bean for years. However, the last couple years the sizes and quality has changed drastically. This winter I have bought a few coats that I've had to return due to poor sizing. I finally received my down jacket but there was a Small hole in it and white feathers constantly leaking. When I called for a quick exchange I was told that I would have to re-buy one. L.L. Bean had been very frustrating to deal with. :-(

I purchased this coat because it was billed as WARMEST and it was not warm at all. I'm not sure what the numbers printed in the catalog mean, +20/-30, but I was assuming that meant the coat would keep you warm when it was cold outside. The fit and styling were good but to say this is the warmest is misleading. It would be a good light jacket for a mild Spring day. Disappointing purchase.

I have great luck with Bean and everything is top quality except this coat. I purchased one and wore it a few times and notice feathers popping out of the shell on the back of the coat. So I reordered a replacement which came quickly, put it on today and noticed feathers popping out of the sleeve. I love everything about this coat, its warmth, light weight, color, style, fit, pockets etc. I am so sorry the quality of the shell or perhaps the construction is so poor.

The Zipper does not stay on anymore. I have to keep on zipping it up especially around the neck area. So, I went to a store yesterday and I was told that the zipper being made of plastic is lower in quality and is subject to more defect. I was told that nothing could be done to help because I got my coat two years ago. I am very disappointed for how much I paid for it. All that because of the zipper. I was happy with this purchased until now. I don't think that I will buy coats from LLBean anymore given the price and how long it may last.

I normally wear a petite M in LLBean tops, so that's the size I ordered in this coat. It was HUGE-- probably two sizes too big. I also didn't like the styling-- the light grey lining looks ugly from the front. You can see the grey lining unless the coat is entirely zipped up to your chin. It would have been much better for the coat to be lined inside in a similar color to the outside. The contrast of the grey with the coat color doesn't look that bad in the photo but looks much worse in person.

This coat is great for 30-40 degree weather in MN. However, beware... one hole can ruin everything. I researched above and beyond to fix the hole in my Mariner Blue down coat and there seems to be nothing out there to cover the hole where it isn't noticeable to the naked eye. My last resort was to consult with their Customer Service. However, there is NOTHING they can do to help repair it! $260 down the drain. In addition, I couldn't return it because its the 371st day since I bought it. Just less than a week of my one year mark. I didn't even notice it until a few days ago... when I needed it. Therefore, I've only been able to enjoy this coat for one season. Better luck to the rest of you.

I loved this jacket and bought it not once, but twice. The first time the fabric got a snag and feathers started coming out about a year into owning it I thought it was a fluke. Thankful for the old L.L. Bean return policy I returned the first and purchased another. However, I was less than a month into wearing the second when it too got a snag and it too was returned. I wore this coat for to and fro, preschool drop offs, walking the dogs, grocery shopping, pretty standard everyday stuff. For a coat that is supposed to have "exceptional durability" it is greatly disappointing.

Bought this based on temperature rating for the jacket, but it's not that warm. I ended up returning it and also the down feathers kept coming out.

do not build them as if we are all men and without curves...could not zip it up, without fear of tearing off the zip....one shape does not fit all. Alas...

Its a great coat except the out-shell materials is very thin which makes it easy to get a slit. I purchased this coat and I wore it a few times when I noticed I had a slit on the sleeve. I believe this was an accident while I was grocery shopping. I had to take it to the tailor to mend with a patch. I am disappointed by how thin the outer-shell material is. Not what I would expect from LL Bean quality!
Disappointed customer :(

I bought this jacket last year and it ripped in 2 spots very easily. I spoke with a saleswoman to complain and she stated that she recommends not getting this jacket if you are going to do any outdoor activities. For a jacket that is supposed to be "durable," it's not. Very disappointed.

Purchased this jacket in December and immediately the down feathers were coming out from the arms, sides and back. I have the maroon color so it's quite noticeable. The material is so thin and after just two months it has a tear from my 16 lb puppy that jumped up on me. So disappointed in the quality. I have other LL bean jackets purchased over 15 years ago that still look great and sturdy. Expect more from a coat that cost this price. Shop around.

Bought this coat for my wife for Christmas. She loved it -lightweight, warm, nice color. 7 weeks later it was snagged by the jagged edge of a wooden desk tearing several small holes in it. I messaged LL Bean customer service and was told we could send it in and they would look at it. If they deemed it repairable, they would fix it for a fee. And it would take 3-4 weeks. In the dead of winter. So, in my opinion, it would be a nice coat if not for the fact that it is too fragile for the real world. Buy one only if you are able to avoid any and all sharp edges of the world.

Everything about this jacket is not the same in comparison to the one without the hood. Runs too large, arms long, pockets not properly placed.

I bought this coat in November and returned it in early December. My handle on this site is couture LL Bean. I'm a loyalist. I bought this as an around town coat for moderate temperatures. However this coat failed in quality and warmth. Quality: began to fray at the zipper and, whether by cat claws or snag on a grocery cart, developed holes in several places. How well would this hold up hiking or snowshoeing in the woods? Warmth: the wind whipped through the zipper and generally not as warm as advertised. Without a placket covering the zipper, this was not very warm in moderately cold temps.
