Love the weight, warmth and hood. However, the coat does not hang well (bunches at the front) and although I ordered my usual size (large), the coat is too voluminous. Have bought many Bean coats over the years and this is the first time I have been disappointed.

This coat is just the length and weight I wanted for everyday use. I like the fact that it would not be too bulky to use for travel but I really do not like one design detail. In black, when the coat is not zipped up all the way, there is a visible grey area around the neck. This grey area
makes the coat immediately more casual, less sophisticated and less complimentary in my mind. A SOLID black coat would have had a simpler, cleaner look. This is the same reason I don't like visible name labels on coats - they distract from the overall look of the coat. (This coat does have a name label on the bottom hem of the coat but I could have lived with that.)
Please make this coat in a SOLID black design for next year!

After not being able to buy this coat last year because it didn't have a hood, I was excited to buy this version with a much needed hood. However, it seems like hoods are not Bean's strongest point - the hood is subpar for the nice coat, it is uncomfortable and to tighten it you have to unzip the coat up to your chest because it tightens on the inside! Even some of my cheaper down coats have a more practical mechanism of tightening the hood with little buttons/strings on the outside. The tightening string also runs too far away from the edge of the hood, equivalent about a quarter width of the hood which is... just odd. Hope Bean improves on this first attempt of the hood.

I am 5 foot, 100 lbs P/xs. The coat is well made and would love to keep itI have the long coat which fits perfectly. This shorter coat, which I've been waiting for with hood, is much larger through the chest and arms by almost an inch by comparison measurement. For the price, I will send it back as it is just too large and it is the smallest size.

I've had this coat for over a year now. Love the look and fit of this coat but it is not at all water resistant. Gets soaked in snow flurries and is a mess in the rain. Also is not at all wind resistant. Wind blows right through. Only good on dry, windless cold days

Good winter weather protection but a few uses, the down feathers are already starting to come out. I am considering returning the coat for this reason.

In many ways, this is one of the best coats I've ever owned. It's extremely comfortable, not bulky at all, and warm enough for Massachusetts winters. The petite fit is perfect. That said, I cannot give it a high rating. The coat rips incredibly easily. I bought one, and a small hole appeared for no apparent reason the fabric is just so delicate that even normal daily wear can cause snags and tears. I contacted L.L.Bean but could not return it (just over a year old) and it could not be repaired. Additional holes continued to pop up.
I loved it so much, however, that I bought a second one same issue. Today, it snagged on something in a store and ripped again, leaving a large hole. At $300, I cannot justify buying a third. I really love the weight and fit, but after spending almost $600 on these coats and dealing with repeated damage, I cannot recommend it. It's unfortunate because the design and comfort are excellent, but the fabric's durability is a major problem.

The old version had thicker fabric, no hood and nice colors like aqua. The price has gone up, the new coat is thinner, and it's the same boring colors. Please make one with a detachable hood and $300?? Way too much for what you get.

Very warm, nice fitting and looks good. Unfortunately the outer material is like tissue paper and rips upon contact with anything that offers resistance.

I ordered this coat since i was always very pleased with similar purchases from LLBean but this coat has been a big disappointment. I've only worn this coat about five times and the zipper broke four times. I'm tired of struggling to fix it each time and would like LLBean to replace it with one with more quality.

Disappointed in some of the reviews, disappointed that you do not offer this coat with a detachable hood and I guess I'll wait till you change your style. My old one is a dear favorite. Industry

I bought this coat about two years ago and until recently have worn it exclusively for walks and going back and forth to work. Last week I wore it while working in my backyard; the coat now has puncture wounds and tears from some plastic netting that I was moving that covers my koi pond. Very disappointed now in this coat's durability and I can't find a good way to repair it.

Quality not great. Definitely not as expected for $279. The nylon shell material is poor quality and the down comes out of it.

i bought this coat in 2019 and it started springing holes in random places and giving off feathers. Warm coat, good zipper, good fit but ...I'm working with LL Bean for a resolution

This cost was comfortable but NOT warm enough! I was outside on 47 degrees and in about 5-7 minutes I was cold. Arms and back.

I have finally tossed this coat due to the ongoing zipper issues. I liked the weight, the fit and the length. Zipper kept getting stuck at a certain point, zipping either up or down. Called to try to get exchange or credit but it was past the return date. Nursed it along for several years with WD 40 but it finally got stuck permanently. Not worth the $ to get new zipper. Had similar issue with down vest. I understand I'm not alone on this. Won't be purchasing anything with zippers from LL Bean, unless the factory has changed zipper manufacturer.

I bought this coat last winter. I live in central VT and have a dog that needs to be walked a few times a day. It has been my habit to also walk to my office, one mile from my house. I was replacing a Columbia parka that is big and bulky. I was very much looking forward to a lightweight warm down coat. Unfortunately I absolutely freeze in this coat. It is just not warm enough when the weather is below 35, or so. After wearing it for a year and adding so many layers beneath it to stay warm I have gone back to wearing my old Columbia. It's not stylish but at least it keeps me warm.
Sorry, llbean , poor and misleading advertising on the warmth factor of this coat. It works great in the Speing and Fall.

I have a lightweight 3/4 coat from Bean I got several years ago, has been wonderful except for the zipper which failed and can't be replaced according to our local seamstress place (snaps in the way). Sadly this new one won't work for me, very disappointing.
Pros:
Beautiful color, soft fleece inside pockets, zippered side pockets, good length, fit okay (though slimmer in hips than my old one) except for too long arms
Cons:
smells awful of some chemical (that alone makes it impossible to keep for me), quite a bit thinner than old one of this style so not as warm, flimsy zipper, hood not detachable (old one was), sleeves too long, outside fabric a thinner nylon (not sure would hold up), no inside pocket with a zipper (there is a large stuff pocket inside)
Please please Bean, go back to the older style which though thicker and warmer still stuffs into a small pouch and has a detachable hood & better fabric. And please get rid of whatever the chemical smell is and improve the zipper.

My best clothes, favorite clothes are all LL Bean. That being said this winter coat was a disappointment. I am about 5'1" and 136-139....All my coats are LL Bean, but this style did not look good on me. The zipper looked impoverished.... too thin, the coat itself was also thin.
I returned it and got a merchandise card and happily bought some other LL Bean clothes.

So excited to received this coat and wear to Grandson's baseball games. Spring can be chilly in South Carolina 40-50 degrees . This coat keeps the wind at bay but is not as warm as expected, still need several layers underneath to keep warm. It is very light in weight. Would have returned but have worn twice (hoping it was just an exceptionally cold day) and removed all tags.

I loved this jacket when I first bought it two years ago; very warm and comfortable. I didn't mind spending the money because typically LL Bean has great quality and customer service. Unfortunately, the zipper broke off when I was bending down, taking some teeth with it. LL Bean won't exchange it and even says they won't fix it (I would pay!). Now it's a fairly useless coat because I used it when it was cold out - a coat that can't be zipped isn't helpful in a western NY winter. Very disappointed in both the quality and the customer service; I don't plan on buying anything else from them again.

I loved this coat, lightweight and warm, however, the outer shell is very thin and kept popping holes near the stitching resulting in exchanging it three times. I would buy this again if the outer shell was more durable.

The coat isn't cut properly. It's boxy and doesn't keep out the cold well.
