I've had these for two years and they've held up well on frequent hikes and rugged terrain. However, fit is an issue. The length is correct but the entire shoe is very spacious - the toe box is huge and the shoe can't be laced tight enough to fit unless I wear very thick socks. I have somewhat low-volume feet but this has never been a problem with any other shoe in my life. Other than the fit they are comfortable. Wish I could return but I've had them too long.

I have been wearing the women's X Ultra 3 Mid GTX for YEARS I went through four pairs. They were perfect; I don't know why they were discontinued. I've also gone through two pairs of the Quest 4 GTX, which are great for winter &/or carrying heavier loads. I'm extremely hard on boots I hike 40-50mi/week for work & I've always been so happy with my Salomons. I used to be able to buy any pair of Salomons in 9.5 & know they would fit & I wouldn't have to spend forever breaking them in but wow, something changed. These are so narrow, especially the toe box. There's no way to tighten the top enough to prevent heel slip. I much prefer the color of these to that awful blue & yellow on the X Ultra 3, but that's about it. The materials on these feel cheap compared to older, different models, too. I'm pretty bummed that I'm going to have to find a new brand after so many years of exclusively wearing Salomons.

Something changed with these boots. I feel every rock and pebble when hiking and for the first time ever, my feet hurt when I got home. Please go back to the way you used to make your boots.

Very lightweight boot and waterproof boots. Unfortunately I followed the size advice and although usually size up stuck with my normal shoe size. Now 2 days into a 7 day walk and will loose at least one toenail if not two even after breaking them in.

With all the hypes about X Ultra 4, I had been wanting a pair and finally bought it last October. I had a great first impression. The boots were comfortable, even for my first use. No break in was needed. However, after just a few months wearing them for my regular exercise on a short trail, the tractions worn out less than 6 months. The traction worn out faster than my other hiking boots from Columbia and Keen. With a higher price tag, I would expect a better quality. Sadly, they don't live up with all the hypes publishing on a number of product review websites. Also, the waterproof did not seem to work as described. This first pair of Salomon made me doubt about the Salomon quality overall.

Bought this pair in April. Worn it for most hikes since. Pro: waterproof, good grip, color combo Cons: Sizing is big. I wear size 5 and do have narrow feet so going down hill my toes have been bruised especially bc the shoelaces suck! Shoelaces does not stay in place, even if I double/triple knot it. Overall after a few months I think I have to invest in a new shoe so sad!

I requested this X Ultra boots to replace my Outline Mid Gore-Tex ones. My Outline boots are size 36 so I ordered the same size expecting them to fit exactly the same. To my surprise the X Ultra boot is much bigger in every way, lengthwise, widthwise and heightwise felt like i was trying a 37W size. Unfortunately I had to return them because even with soles, they did not fit. For a reference, my feet are thin and with high insteap

I really wanted to love these; initially they were super comfortable walking around my house until I decided to take them for a 2 hour hike to break them in. Unfortunately they didn't live up to the price tag. My feet were so sweaty the first 30 minutes into the hike (I've never had this issue with other hiking boots), and by the end of it I had blisters on my heels and toes (even while wesribn appropriate hiking socks). I'm going to test them out one more time but I'm really disappointed in this shoe, especially given the price tag. Also I ordered a full size down (regularly I'm an 8.5-9 and had to order a smaller size)

Way too large. Very painful bend in shoe fabris below toes, cuts into flesh and makes walking unbearable. So painful.

I was disappointed by the quality. I am hiking in Scotland right now and I got wet feet after 2hours hike. My previous pair was keeping me dry for the whole day.

I tried to go up and down in size but the shoe does not feel right. My husband said the same thing. We both loved the ultra 3 we cannot longer get. This shoe is not comfortable

Cannot wear. Order at least a half or full size smaller than you normally would. About a full inch of room in the toe.

I have a customer of Salomon for more than 10years. I usually use their hiking models since it has good support for my ankle and I always was very satisfied with my hiking shoes. However unfortunately, this model really hurts my forefoot.

Shoes are not comfortable on the top of my foot. The synthetic material is hard and unyielding at the toe crease area and cause a great deal of pain between the toes and main foot when you articulate. Horrible engineering!

As the description says, I ordered a size smaller (7) than my usual size (7.5). The size is perfect, but not the width: the width is too tight for my feet. I don't know how these boots were made/designed (I mean, why we have to order a size small than our usual size), but I think I have found the reason; I think, the boots were accidentally made a size bigger by keeping the width of the real size. For example, I think the size of the one I ordered (size 7) is a size 7.5 in reality, but with a width of a real 7. I don't know if that makes sense. In another hand, I went to a store trying the 7.5 to give me an idea if I should order a size up, and the size was too big for me (it was like a size 8), but the width was perfect though. The size of my previous boots (Quest Prime GTX) was 7.5, and the boots were perfect and very comfortable, but it's not the case with the X Ultra 4 Mid Gore-Tex. The good point is that Salomon gave me excellent customer service; I sent them several emails and pictures, and they recommended sizing up the boots or told me to ask for a return (I returned the boots). Salomon was transparent and didn't try to convince me to keep the boots. FYI, I asked them if the boots take a bit of expansion after wearing these a few times, but they told me that the boots must be a perfect fit from the very first time we wear them.

Pros: They are comfortable and the tread is awesome. Cons: sizing is very wide. I had to add an extra insole to make up for all the space so I could tighten the laces to hold my foot steady on hikes. They lasted only a few months before the stitching began to come undone. This made these shoes not waterproof and sand, dirt and rocks would become trapped in the lining. To be honest, I am appalled that this is rated one of the top hiking shoes on the market in the United States right now. A hiking shoe should be reliable and built to last. Nothing from Salomon is worthy of being called a decent hiking shoe anymore. What once was a great company has given way to poor quality for more profit. Avoid Salomon's if you plan to use these shoes for long hikes.

Ordered wide because Salomon has such a small narrow toe box but even wide isn’t a good fit… have returned

These are so comfortable, could not feel i had them on even after 15 miles. Unfortunately my 3rd walk was in the rain and found they are not waterproof. My feet were soaked. Given credit to buy new boots except there are only 2 styles of boots in my size available and both have terrible reviews so currently do not own waterproof walking boots

2nd pair of these boots. Benefits you can walk straight away. No need to break in. I have never had to write a review for boots as Salomon are fantastic with their customer service. However, please please don't bother buying these. First pair no longer waterproof after 9 months. Second pair haven't even lasted 2 months!! This is abysmal. I can't abide waste and now I have two pairs that look absolutely fine but my feet are soaking wet even if I just look at damp grass.

My old Salomons gave up the ghost after 7 comfortable and blister free years so I bought these as a replacement. I went down by half a size having read the reviews and the boots felt comfortable enough to keep when tried on with walking socks. I've just come back from my first walk in them and my feet are really sore. I've got a blister on the end of one toe, another between two toes, and the soles of my feet/toes are really sore. I've never had this problem before with Salomon footwear. This was after just 3 miles! So disappointed.

I recently bought these boots in hopes that I would be able to complete either a day hike or a one night trip. But that is not the case. I can last in these shoes for a few hours, then they become extremely uncomfortable. Then when I add my backpack its much much worse. Also the shoe laces are horrible and love to come undone... I would not recommend to anyone.
