Great shoe for my mild pronation! I am typically an 8.5/9 in other shoes and I ordered an 8 and it fits perfectly. Highly recommend the shoe!

I travel full-time in an RV, visiting every corner of nature I can get to. My ankles have always been a giant disappointment, so I've been rocking a pair of Salomon's tall, heavy, stiff hiking boots forever. They're not designed for all applications, though, and I've been desperate to find a comfortable, lightweight, grippy, and supportive pair of hiking shoes.
I've tried all the other brands, and I've been giving very expensive hiking shoes to goodwill for many years. Always going back to my heavy mountain boots.
Then I found the X Ultra 4 Gore-Tex. I originally purchased them in the mid, thinking my ankles would never tolerate anything less. What I discovered was the contagrip on the soles of these shoes is so good at it's job, my ankles barely even come into play for stabilization or slippage. Simply put, when I plant my foot somewhere, I have absolute confidence it's staying where I put it and holding tight until I release it. For example, I hiked The Narrows in Zion NP in these shoes, and even in a rushing river, this sole did not let me down. This feature alone has changed the way I hike forever. My safety, and thus my confidence, is through the roof in these shoes!
Other features I love: It wears like a tennis shoe and is light enough and flexible enough for daily wear, which I absolutely do. It is fully waterproof, as in, I have walked miles through tall wet grass and through downpours and still had dry socks when I got home. Miraculously, though entirely waterproof, my feet do not sweat in these shoes the way they do in almost every other shoe I own. I have never seen a waterproof yet breathable shoe, but the X Ultra 4 GT somehow manages both. The toe shield is tremendous without ever making my toes feel hemmed in. I have never had a blister in these shoes. I am forever a fan of the speedlaces, and I love how fast I can put these shoes on and be ready to walk out the door.
The only two things I can think of that these shoes don't do is keep my feet warm and resist stains. At the end of the day, I bought these shoes for function, not fashion and if it's warmth I'm after, I change socks.
I've easily got 300 miles on this pair, over all imaginable types of terrain, and though I'm back to purchase a second pair, there's not a single thing wrong with my originals. A little red staining from miles of red dirt in Moab, a few scuffs from rock crawling in Acadia, and a light dinge overall that speaks to the many adventures these shoes have carried me through, but are otherwise none the worse for wear.
I hope Salomon never stops making this shoe.

With some reserve I followed the recommendation to order a size down. I'm glad I did: the fit is perfect! I normally wear an 8 but went with the 7.5. The width seems true, the shoes have good arch support and were comfortable right out of the box. Once I figured out where to tuck that new-fangled shoelace thing, I was good to go. I like these so much, I'm ordering a second pair.

I have had 2 pairs of Salomon boots in the past and they have been amazing.
This pair are dreadful. Have worn them for around 6 months, the sole is splitting and the back of the shoe is badly worn. Oh, and you may as well ware a pair of sandals in the rain and the water rushes into these shoes!

I am really pleased with my new shoes. I have waited a while before posting a review as I wished to try them out on all surfaces. I have walked about 400 miles with these shoes on a mixture of terrain, including the rough surface of Helvellyn. They are very comfortable and I feel support my feet well. So far they are waterproof and the treads are still looking good.

I bought my Mocha Mousse X Ultra shoes just when the pandemic started. They have been great for the daily hikes I take with my two dogs. We hike in the mountains in and around Los Angeles and these are the first pair of shoes that have supported my feet well. I used to have a lot of foot and knee pain and now I have nearly no pain because of these shoes. Can't wait to get my next pair.

I bought these last month to wear for work. I am a Postie, and they are extremely comfortable. First time I wore them was the busiest day of the week and i have suffered no rubbing or blisters. I love them.

I've been waiting for these shoes to be available in my size for the longest, but when I saw them I grabbed them and loved them.
Very comfortable for someone who works most of the time outside, usually when I wear new shoes I have to break them in so I won't get blisters, not with these pair.
These pair aren't my first Salomon shoes I keep on buying them, they never disappoint.

I’m really liking these shoes! They are a bit stiff to start not unusual, but they have a very good grippy sole and I’m feeling more secure on the hilly trails. They’ll break in and mold to my feet as I use them, but they’re not uncomfortable out if the box and I’ve had no foot issues
to date. I do however wear good socks (Thorlos) so if you wear any good hiking sock I think it prevents issues. Love the little pocket on top that stores the ties!

I would like to order the Almond/Mocha color in my size. (Maybe 7.5 or 8) The color looks so beautiful!

I bought these for hiking the white mountains in New Hampshire. They kept my feet dry and comfortable on the toughest terrain where the trails turned into small rivers after heavy rain storms. They also stayed light by not being bogged down with water. Traction was also excellent!

I am usually an 8 in regular shoes, an 8.5 in active shoes, and a 9 in running shoes. In Salomons hiking boots, I usually wear a 9.
This model is larger than the previous model (X Ultra 3), so the 8.5 fit me perfectly. The size chart still reflects that I am a size 9, so keep in mind when ordering to go down half a size than what the size chart says.
I gave a lower rating on style because I prefer the look of the Black non-GTX version, but I settled for the blue version of this shoe b/c I need the waterproof feature.
Otherwise, it is a great, comfortable shoe but the size chart is off.

Love this shoe, it felt very comfortable the minute I put it on. I ordered a half a size larger because my size was not available. The shoe is true to size so going a size larger proved to be too big. Disappointed that I can not find my size in any color.

I have a lot of hardware in my left ankle making hiking shoe shopping a bit of a challenge. These are comfortable out of the box, very cushy. They do feel a half size larger than marked, but that's what I wanted - room for feet to swell on hot days. The tongue could be a bit longer I suppose, but once I started paying attention to my gait, it stayed put (I'm an underpronator big time). The light blue color is fun and - you either love them or hate them - I like the Quicklaces.

I have the 2nd, 3rd and now 4th generation of these shoes. I love them and they have continued to improve over the generations. When the latest gen landed on my doorstep, I immediately put them on and went for a 5 mile hike, including climbing some rocks. They felt already broken in. I can't wear boots, so, I wear these. NO problems. I love them.
