Very upset to find out that Salomon has changed the measurements of its footwear. Unfortunately I did not know this until after I made my purchase. Return was a bit of a hassle once I found out how narrow these shoes actually are made now. Blessing in disguise, HOKA Anacapa low breeze are legit.

Also, the others that I own. Fits perfect, and great! Fast lace up is always a plus. Buy with confidence. Thanks SALOMON

I've been buying Salomons for over a decade. Some shoes have been good and some have been great. I like the fact that most of their shoes do not need a real break in period. I can start wearing right out of the box. This particular style has not disappointed. It's comfortable and light for me. I feel it was true to size. I've only been wearing for a few weeks but I waiting to see the durability. Some have lasted longer but I always rotate between the shoes I have. The only negative I have is the "laces" is a little long. When I have to tuck it into the tongue of the shoe, a lot of the lace still sticks out. Otherwise a great shoe.

I have been wearing Salomon shoes for years for all athletic activities and for wear around town. I have yet to be disappointed. The X Ultra 4 was comfortable out of the box, looks great. Size is always 11.5 and always fits perfectly. Roomy toe box too. Great shoe from great company.

Bought this shoe online, having read the specs and intended purpose, and it has surpassed my expectations. Light, comfortable, and reliable on any surface, rock / gravel / leaves dirt, and looks great. Highly recommend

Im an infantry vet and as such have lots of problems with my feet and can be picky about what I wear. These are hands down the best shoe Ive ever bought. The amount of pain relief from this shoe compared to me last is astounding to me. I actually bought a second pair because of how well they fit and how far I can walk in them with zero pain or issues with my heel or ankles.
Thank you Salomon for making such a fantastic product!

Fit is great. Felt comfortable from the beginning. Laces took awhile to quit stretching. I took my first 2 hour hike. My ankles were well supported. I was disappointed with the cushion. My feet hurt about 90 minutes into the hike.

Was looking to replace my XCrest that I have been buying for years. Apparently they are discontinued. These dont have nearly the arch support that the XCrest had. In fact I have put them on the shelf as my feet hurt after an 8 hour day. Wont be buying these again. :(

I bought these to replace some X Ultra Aeros that I loved, but unfortunately are not made anymore. I was hesitant because I really wanted a mid height boot without any waterproofing but at the moment Salomon doesn't offer anything like that. The low cut is comfortable for around town, but if I need to go out into the woods I will switch to a different boot with a higher cut.
These are very comfortable and lightweight, and they breathe very good in the hot and humid weather.
The quicklaces...are not the best. The idea is okay, but the buckle/clasp/whatever they call the mechanism that is supposed to keep the laces tight is not very good. It loosens up all the time. The laces themselves are also really long, so by the time you tighten them there is a ton of extra lace you have to try to tuck into the little pocket thing on the tongue.
It was an interesting idea...but it seems like a solution to something that wasn't really a problem to begin with...
I got them on sale and even with the laces I'm happy with them. If I had paid full price...I would be less happy.

Full disclosure, this is my second pair of the X Ultra 4's. The first pair was put through the ringer over several years and I finally wore out the sole. The first pair was amazing and I loved everything about it, so when it came time to replace it I didn't hesitate to buy the same pair again!
I use this as my everyday/weekend shoe. It has gone to breweries, camping, hiking, dog walks, kayaking, and even some light jogging. Anything I throw at it, it just keeps asking for more.

I have well over 100 miles on these. Like all the salomon boots/shoes I have used over the last 20+ years they are comfortable right out of the box. My only issue is the lacing system. Unless you dont know how to tie your shoes I dont see the point. Its faster and easier to use regular laces. At least these stay tight, unlike other quick lace products Ive used in the past.

While looking to buy these, I read some negative reviews that made me a bit hesitant...be sure to size up, not durable, they are ugly, the free floating tongue makes me mad, the lacing system is bad....I did see one guy whos eylet broke out, but Salomon covers that in their warranty so just send em back....
I have a pair of Salomon real deal hiking boots, which are impractical to wear to the office or around town, so unless I am hunting or on the trail I don't wear them. So I got these because I love the durability and the support that Salomon provides, I can step into the office or the woods with these and be perfectly fine. I have wide feet and these run true to size, so people who say order a size up, you might not know what your actual shoe size is. Patagonia stuff runs small, these do not, I ordered a half size larger simply because when I do take these to the mountains, my feet will swell and Ill have heavier socks on, but its not because they don't run true to size. These are great shoes in my opinion and I have thousands of miles under my feet all around the country that can verify I know a good shoe when I walk in it. These are great, if you're not a nitpicky baby about stuff, you won't be disappointed.

I used to hike with typical Danner military boots, all the time. But this pair of shoes are my very first hiking shoes. They are so comfortable and so lightweight, with so much ventilation. I doubt if I will ever go back to the conventional boots anymore. The grip is insane for both mud and dry rock, and the mid foot locks to the terrain with zero foot roll. It give me some much confidences.
I took off one star because after 4 miles of mountain hiking, my right ankle bone hurts a lot due to constant pressing against the heel cup. I have a low ankle bone and got problems with shoes that have high heel-cups. So if you have low ankle bone like me, you might need some break-in.

I have had an original XUltra version of this shoe and it was fabulous. Lasted forever and only bought the v4 because I wanted a new looking pair.
The Xultra 4 is a horrible step in the wrong direction. The laces have actually cut through the eyelets in 1 year and now the shoes are useless and I will get rid of them.

I've had these for a month of daily use. They're a great construction but they have developed a bad odor already. I have had other pairs of salomons do the same but never this early. Great shoes if you can deal with the smell

I am 73 and have found over the past 20 years that only Salomon trail running and hiking shoes support my feet well enough for all-day wear. My daily wear needs are for walking and yard work, as well as shopping. Salomon X Ultras simply make my feet feel good. I have two pairs, a 4-yr-old black low goretex pair and a 6-yr-old green mid goretex pair. Both were made in india. I also have a 10-yr-old low blue XA Pro 30, size 10, which I still use for more casual wear (made in Vietnam).
I really needed a brown shoe for wear with lighter-colored shoes, so ordered this brown X Ultra 4 which is not goretex. It fits perfectly in size 10.5 same as my two newest pairs.
My only disappointment is that the shoe has a hard insole, which is tougher on the soles of my feet. The reason appears to be the composition of the insole material which is below the Ortholite insole. In my older shoes that layer is a somewhat squishy blue material. In this new brown pair, made in Cambodia, the layer under the Ortholite insole is a pretty stiff and hard light-colored material which does not give much.
Luckily, I have been able to compensate for that by wearing thicker socks.
The shoe is a keeper and the sole will hopefully soften a biyt as I break it in.

I bought my first pair of X Ultra 4s from a local store and loved them. That shop still carries them but not during winter. So I went online to Salomon and purchased them. Love the shoe for work and day hikes since I live in the High Sierra.

Great color, great looking shoe. I like it and would buy it again., however, the shoes (left and right shoe) make a lot of squishing noise. "Squeek, squeek, squeek" with every step. Are the layers of the shoes glued together properly? Please find out why these shoes are this noisy. I would like to continue to buy Salomon shoes.

I've had 2 pairs of the Ultra 4 X and both pairs had an issue with the front rubber section coming unglued with the first 10 miles of hiking in the shoes. The first time on the left foot, then the 2nd time on the right foot. They fit great and I will continue to buy Solomon as they are the only shoes that I can wear straight out of the box and not get blisters. But dang I wish the workmanship on these was better. I am purchasing a different model this time so, hoping this issue isn't pervasive throughout the entire product line.

I bought these shoes about a month ago to replace another pair of gore-tex shoes. I wanted a pair of shoes I can wear when walking the dogs. The water I wanted protection against was rain on grass but the shoes didn't protect my socks from being soaked.

I had two pairs of X Ultra 3s and put on more than 750 miles each. Excellent shoe!
With no options for buying 3s, I bought a pair of X Ultra 4s. As with many of the reviewers, the toe cap came unglued within 75 miles of use. The ankle sides were also slightly raised, causing blisters around the ankle bone. Fortunately I was able to return them. I managed to finish the trek with my old X Ultra 3s.
Now I don't know what to do for new shoes. Bring back the X Ultra 3s! Best shoe ever.
