I have been buying the X Ultra since V1. Out of the box, they have always been comfortable, rugged, and I am a fan of the lacing system. For the record, I have naturally flat and narrow feet. While aesthetically, V4 is a little more appealing to me, the overall comfort and design has gone downhill. Others have noted this as well, and I hesitated a long time before making this purchase, but I got to the point that I needed new hiking shoes, and I didn't want to stray from Salomon. Right out of the box, I notice some discomfort around foot arches, both on the medial and lateral side of my foot. I'm not sure if it's due to the lacing and/or material, but the material near the arches of the midsole folds in a way that it creates uncomfortable friction with my foot while walking. This is my main complaint, as over the course of wearing these shoes daily over the last month, this feature has not improved much. The footbed has broken in a bit better, but I don't remember having such a break in period with my Salomons in the past. I was tempted to return or trade in these shoes for another style due to them not being as comfortable as the previous versions, but I had already put too many outdoor miles into this pair, so I guess I'll stick with them for now. These shoes, and Salomons in general, have been my go to brand for hiking shoes/boots over the last decade. The fact that they are still producing this shoe that has so many negative reviews has me seriously considering what other brands might offer my feet more comfort.

I have been wearing Solomon hiking shows for about 20 years. My original Solomon Gore-Tex hiking shoes were great! They were indestructible. I use them to walk my dogs 10 miles a day, as well as hiking mountains and forests around the world. Over time the durability of the shoes has deteriorated greatly. The past three pairs have started to leak at the seams and then completely delaminated between the sole and upper.

I just received these ULTRA and find them a bit "snug" but not as tight as I found the previous Speed Cross 6 which were too tight fitting. I'm going to give it some time and work them-in to see if they get more comfortable.

Beautiful shoe, lightweight, good materials. But the toe box is shorter / smaller than previous versions. It cramps my toes and gives blisters. I have a difficult time believing it's a break in period, because my previous Salomons have been great right off the bat.

I bought this a month ago. My previous Solomon's were normal fit and this time I went with wide fit. The problem is that the tongue slips to the inside and doesn't stay up.

These are excellent trail shoes, but theyre a little snug. I could have used a 1/4 size larger, but I know thats not a thing. Im concerned, though, how my feet would feel after a very long hike.

The changes they made sure didn't improve the shoe. The arch feels different, the sole seems a little less rigid, the attached tongue on the 3 was much easier to deal with, the pocket to hold the speed lace is harder to use, and the list goes on. I'm still getting used to the rigid piece on the outside. In theory it probably gives more stability, but it does feel a bit odd. I will keep them as they are serviceable for my needs, but I sure wish they still carried the old ones. They were near perfect, and I miss them.

Ive had several different hiking shoes but my Saloman-xultra 4 are hands down the best. I like the quick lace paracord and the gore tex keeps my feet dry. Great for the long hikes with my scouts and I even wear them to work.

I bought the leaver version of this shoe. They are immensely comfortable and supportive. Whilst I love them I made the mistake of wearing them on my dog walks and the tread is already disappearing in some areas after only a few months wear. I would avoid them if you're planning to wear them on hard surfaces.

I bought these shoes about a month ago as a summer low cut replacement shoe for my winter high top Cross Hike 2s. The shoes fit great and the Gortex works well. I wanted a tread that didnt wear too quickly with a lot of hard surface walking as compared to trail runners. So far they have been durable. They are not as cushioned as as my Cross Hike 2s. Also, the tongue has tendency to slide to the side a bit. Overall very pleased with the shoes.

Like the Title says Salomon has been my brand and the brand Ive used to go snowboarding with and some of my friends especially my close friends Ive recommended and gave some equipment when there cheap stuff broke theres a few good ones that I wont name but me and my friends are not broke even when young we always worked and had parents that worked so after that weekend they gave back my old Salomon stuff and brought new boots and bindings for them selfs. I bought these new x ultra 4 hiking shoe and they looked so great and I showed them off to everyone before I bought them in REI. I got them and was out to the top of the Sandias a few months later the bottoms of them were so worn out it was crazy I gave them to one of my friends that is still wearing those shoes everyday I seen him in the club wearing them. I have to put a 4 just because I would never go low because I love Salmon and my whole snowboarding set up was Salomon before it got stolen and will be again when I buy my new setup for next season. This city and every other city is so infested with people stealing its crazy everyone needs to protect them selfs and be careful it should be all about love and get out to nature Thank You Salomon if I had pictures on my new IPhone 14 pro I would upload them unfortunately I didnt pay for the cloud I didnt realize it cost money for space in the cloud thats so funny as soon as I buy my new set up I will upload photos or if I get my old phone fixed to transfer my photos to my new iPhone get out to the mountains and breathe the fresh air Salomon Please let me know when you fix the problems with the new hiking shoes love the design much love to everyone

Salomon has been my go-to for hiking footwear for the past 10 years and with how things are trending, I might begin to look elsewhere. Of all of my Salomon shoes, the X Ultra 4 GTX have been the most disappointing of the lot. I wouldn't go as far to give this a 1-Star like many others are as they're still a functional shoe but for the price tag, there's a lot left to be desired with this design. I have small feet but even for me the footbed feels very narrow which just feels a bit constricting. My feet sit high in the shoe which, combined with the narrow footbed, makes the shoe feel unusually unstable - it's like I feel at risk of rolling my ankle at any point in time. The default sole insert is straight up garbage, I recommend replacing it immediately however the narrow footbed means replacement soles don't really fit it very well. Frustrating. The visual design is sharp and I love the colours. It's not often I get compliments on my shoes but these ones have drawn a few already. I've put the GTX to the test and it's held up well. I also haven't found my feet being overly sweaty in them as long as temperatures aren't too high. Functionally, there are a few weird things about the design. The upwards protruding part by the heel is an annoyance. It just doesn't need to exist and serves no purpose. All it does is catch my pant legs from time to time. The tongue is a bit funky too with the kangaroo pouch for the laces being a bit too far forward so tucking the laces in is unnecessarily finnicky. Quality-wise, I haven't had any issues yet but they're only a month old and have only around 50km on them. No serious concerns on this front despite many other reviews stating the opposite. We'll see how they handle after a year. Overall a step down from previous versions and with such a premium price tag, I will expand my search next time to other brands to see what they have to offer.

I had tried several sizes to ensure I had the correct size, but still, no matter how tight I tied them, my heel slips out each time I take a step. The heels simply do not grab hold of your feet. These shoes are hard, plastic, and uncomfortable. I am so disappointed by these shoes. They dont stay on and they hurt your feet. Dont buy them.

Sorry you don't like customer service comments on reviews, but there is no good way to get feedback to you otherwise. Second time buying Salomon light hikers because they are a great shoe, but it would be nice if you could find some brick-and-mortar locations because I generally have to order at least two times (with attendant cost) to get the fit and color right. This time I switched to men's because the women's colors were awful (some people just want a plain black option - even girls). Returns are not easy, and it's all pretty expensive.

I bought these shoes directly from Salomon and my wife carried them here to Portugal from her visit with my daughter in the US. I'm now breaking them in as part of my preparation for a Caminho Walk from Porto to Santiago de Compostela Spain next month. The shoes are breaking in faster than I expected. They are comfortable yet this is a solid shoe. If I had known how happy I would have been I would have bought two pairs. These are the best and most supported hiking shoes I have ever owned.
