Used on my trip to Italy and thought it was great, but there were a few things that I noticed during the trip. A water bottle pouch would be a great addition. Also, I feel like the pockets can be designed differently, in the sense that there can be one meant for travel documents, with another more geared towards wire/portable charger storage for easy access.

This is a great bag in terms of size and function. I like to carry a lot of things with me on a daily basis, and this bag easily accommodates everything without being hard to access or bulky. I especially like the sizing of each compartment, making it easy to keep gear sorted by use. The only complaint I have is the shoulder strap which is way too narrow and non adjustable on the fly. I recommend the T2 quick adjustment universal strap which is a much better fit for this bag.

Overall I like it. Was using the old Timbuk2 messenger bag for 10+ years. This one has well thought out compartments. The ability to switch between backpack, briefcase, and messenger is cool. The messenger/shoulder strap is the weakest point (followed closely by the zippers). The strap has a thin strap that is not nearly as comfortable as it needs to be. Plus the strap has so much extra length that the excess hangs down and gets tangled up easily. I'll be looking for a different shoulder strap.

A very flexible briefcase, to be used mostly on plane trips - where it can be quickly switched to a backpack. Does not have as many small compartments for pens, small tools (etc) as my usual attache, but has a well padded space to protect my laptop. Zippered slots to slide this case over my (extended) wheeled suitcase handle is an excellent feature. Well made, and likely to be durable.

Purchased to supplement overhead carry-on bag. Intend it for essentials if I'm separated from my carry-on. Expect its dimensions allow placement under airplane seat.
Like that it has a slot for extension handle of carry-on. Could do without various shoulder straps and computer pocket padding.
Would like a full opening zip for the main compartment and an inner key clip strap.
Overall good quality material and workmanship. Excellent value.

Not bad, could be a little more sturdy, two handles would be good when carried as a laptop briefcase

I love this bag! The design, features, layout are all fantastic. I love the horizontal access and layout, luggage pass-through (everything is so easy to access when mounted on my luggage!), backpack straps, size. It's a really smart design! I just have a couple gripes/flaws:
1. The PU-like coating on the front fabric gets marked up VERY easily and these marks can't be removed. These marks make the bag look shoddy, despite its great looks in the first place. I don't think this fabric is necessary here as it doesn't really serve any purpose for water protection. Please make an updated version without this rubbery/plasticy fabric and I'll happily buy it!
2. I would love for Timbuk2 to use a larger zipper just so they are more reliable. While my zippers haven't broken, a #10 zipper would be more fitting for a bag like this and easier to zip than the existing zippers.
3. Flat pockets on the interior of the two smaller compartments would be welcomed - especially the smallest compartment. I also would love to see a small, quick-access pocket on the "top" when the bag is upright in backpack mode. This would make things like small headphones, cables, wallet, etc. easy to access when on an airplane when there is very little space to access the bag in horizontal mode.
Thanks for creating this brilliant bag -- it really is my favorite bag for travel/office use and I just wish you would change that exterior fabric on the front so the bag doesn't look so bad so easily. I'd buy another with that update!

Love this bag. Would give 5 stars but wish it had a water bottle pocket.

I picked this up for an upcoming trip and it looks as though it will work well, especially since it has a luggage pass-through. As others have mentioned, it would be nice to have better organizing pockets with the interior for pens and such like my other Timbuk2 bags. I was also a little surprised by the outer compartment as the zipper seems subpar compared to my other bags. Additionally, the fabric has more of a sheen than I would like. Overall it will work but there have been some cut corners on the quality and design, which is surprising for a Timbuk2 product.

Using it as a daily bag for my computer and everything. Works really well; just wish it had some interior organization options like the messenger bags do.

Great bag!
Lots of pockets, room, professional!
Suggestions: better should straps / metro card pocket on shoulders' strap would be great

I travel multiple times a year for work and I've finally found the perfect bag for business and pleasure. I have a bag addiction and this may finally be the one that satisfies my needs. Finding a bag that looks great and professional walking into a meeting as a briefcase/messenger is hard enough. Finding a bag that turns into a great looking backpack on the shuttle to the airport is a game changer. My only wish is that there were some pencil/pen pockets and a key fob ring inside. Those two things and I would give this bag 6 stars.

This is a great bag. Versatile and well-made. I look forward to using it this summer switching between riding my bike to work (backpack) and walking to my office (briefcase). The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the lack of a strap to secure my keys. Every other Timbuk2 backpack I have seen or used has one. Not sure why it was omitted from this model.

Pro's: good access from top and side whether it's sitting as a briefcase or backpack; stow-able backpack straps; reinforced webbing under grab handles; interior pockets fit passports; solid construction.
What would make this great: add some smaller pockets for pens, etc. in the front admin section, similar to other Timbuk2 backpacks; add a couple of large interior pockets in the laptop section for iPads / tablets to keep them from sliding around; make a larger (or expandable) version by increasing depth beyond 5.5" to boost capacity from 25L to 30L
Overall: Stylish travel bag with room for improvement.

This is my third TimBuk2 bag. Both of my previous bags are still going strong after many years of abuse in high school and college. But I needed a new one with a more professional and streamlined look (i.e., different than the classic messenger bag style) for work.
I'm in traveling sales in the pet industry and I use this as my primary sales bag. In other words, this thing sees a lot of mileage (and dog pee). It's jam packed with multiple binders, an iPad, my laptop, chargers, office supplies, and snacks. Those items are constantly getting pulled out and shoved back in (easily 10x/day). This bag gets tossed around unceremoniously in cars. It frequently goes through airport security and ends up shoved under seats as a personal item. It has even accidentally been set in puddles of dog pee inside pet stores. No matter how much abuse I've thrown at it over the past two months, it just keeps chugging along. Even those pet messes are easily wiped away with a Clorox wipe due to the rubberized/vinyl material used on the bottom of the bag.
One of my favorite features is that I can just slide this over my suitcase handle. It makes life so much easier when I'm going through the airport, trying to get to my seat on the plane, or when I'm checking into a hotel.
My least favorite thing about the bag is the lack of dedicated space for pens or pencils. They kind of just end up floating around in one of the many pockets and compartments.
Overall I give it 4/5 stars. If there were dedicated quick access spots for pens I'd easily give it 5/5.

This was comfortable to wear and did 90% of what I wanted but it just wasn't for me. I LOVE the idea of a shoulder bag for work, that converts to a backpack for air travel. I wanted clips to make sure I felt my bag was more secure -- not just a zipper. Since the bag changes direction from horizontal to vertical, just didn't feel like it was as secure in the backpack form. I also wanted things like pencil holders and it had none -- which when I thought about how I was going to use the bag, became a dealbreaker for me.

Tried to use as a flight bag
Well constructed bag with plenty of pockets, but once these pockets were full the problems for me arose. It was nearly impossible to fit the bag over my luggage handle. It doesn't take too much to fill this bag, an iPad, laptop and headphones and you're at capacity. Bag could be good for someone with limited devices/stuff, but it just couldn't meet my requirements.

Good bag space and layout - this has become my go to work travel briefcase. However, the carry handles are too thin and uncomfortable if you have anything more than laptop to carry. Also the shoulder strap is very narrow and without swivel hooks so the strap is continually a twisted mess! Hopefully this feedback can be considered for the next the next version

I bought this then quickly returned it after seeing the lack of organizers in the zip pockets. Bought a different Timbuk messenger pack instead.

Pictures show interior lining as a lime green color, but product received is grey interior making things harder to see. The green interior was one of the reasons I purchased it so was disappointed with this. The clips for the straps also seem fiddly to use and I have doubts about the durability but we will see.

This bag would be so much better if they didn't make it a crossbreed. They should just make this into a nice shoulder briefcase bag and leave it at that. Make the area where the back straps are a quick access pocket for say newspaper, plane tickets or anything like that. Straps are waste of real estate on this bag. Also organizational pockets like pen, glasses and wallet compartment should be on the secondary outer pocket. The two zipper pockets they have are a waste. If you're going to do this then make them a z fold to Y fold pocket so they expand away from the bag instead of into the bag.

This product received is not identical to product illustrated online. I've had two previous satisfied purchases (robin backpack and the copilot). I own the copilot roller and purchased the scheme messenger/backpack once it was back in stock. On the online image the bags interior is green. The bag I received is just black all around. Not overall satisfied with this product purchase.
