These shoes have more room than usual for my size, which means heavier winter socks should fit comfortably. Not a huge amount of cushioning, but very comfortable to walk in.

I was looking for a trail runner/ running shoe that I could wear on light hikes as well as running errands and chasing kids at soccer practice. I ordered these because I find a lot of shoes too narrow in the toe box and someone said Altra had a wider toebox. And indeed, the toe box was really comfy and roomy. The tread and sole were great, and I think these shoes would have been great as a light hiking shoe. However, the shoe was too high around the ankle and would rub painfully for me, so I ultimately returned it. Also, I wasn't crazy about the colour - the powder blue seemed a little dated to me.

First purchase of this brand and so far so good. Have walked 6 miles at longest so far. Held up better than other brand so far and my finicky feet approve.

I wear a size 9 in the ASICS Kayano for road running and the Lone Peaks in a 9 are slightly bigger. These feel cushioned, but I have to wear my custom orthotics for arch support, otherwise, I don’t think I could run in them. I love the width of the toe box, accommodating bunions on both feet. I’m not crazy about their appearance, but they have been great for running on the trail.
I'd also recommend:

I Love my Altra's and are the only trail shoes I can wear without my feet feeling pinched at the toes. Rated them 4 instead of 5 stars because this last pair started to come apart after less then a month of wear.

I bought this shoe because I have pain in my big toe joint (hallux limitus) and wanted the wide toe box. It does have a wonderfully wide toe box and I think it's actually kind of cute. I didn't realize that the shoe would be very flexible in the front, which aggravates the painful toe. I tried using my prescription insoles to firm it up, but they didn't fit in it correctly. I returned it.

These are the second pair of altra shoes that I've bought. In terms of how these perform against any other brand I've owned, it's unmatched. I have a very physical job where I walk in all terrains (trail, sand, grass, etc) and am moving for 10-12 hrs a day 5-6 days a week. I've put about 250+ miles on these since I bought them at the end of May. They are starting to show signs of wear including seams around the toe box puckering. I'm a little disappointed they are starting to wear already considering last summer I bought the trail runner 4.5s and they did not show wear until 350+ miles were put on them. That being said, these shoes are still great. Super light, comfortable, and I'm able to get through the day with no or minimal foot pain!

I wanted to like these so much. They really had potential. However, they are not made for people with narrow to normal width feet. I don't need my toes to swim around in the toe box, and unfortunately, that is how all Altra shoes are made. If you need to spread your toes out wide, then these might work well for you.

The shoes are comfortable and feel supportive. Despite the recommendation for a larger size while ordering, my real size fits fine (7.5 Women's). The color I wanted was not available, so I chose Ice Flow Blue. This was a mistake. After one short walk, the shoe showed grass and dirt stains that don't wipe off. I was looking for a trail hiking and dog agility shoe, and these are looking used right from the start. It's no matter to me if they hold up structurally, but if clean matters more to others, this review is for you - don't pick Ice Flow Blue.

i bought this shoe in black because the plum was not available. it is comfortable and gives my toes lots of room which is a huge plus. it's easy to put on and the laces are probably never going to untie themselves -- it's like they have little velcro spots on them. it's a trick to get them loosened as well as tied, but that means they aren't going to untie. i like the looks of the shoe when i look down at the top of it, but don't like any other view. to me it has an ugly look from the side and weirdly sticks out in back. i'm keeping it because it's so hard to find a shoe which gives my toes lots of room with a decent arch, but i would have been happier if i could have gotten it in plum.

These are great for casual hiking and walking on fairly flat trails. Not so good on slippery rock or loose soil/gravel. I wear a 7.5 wide women's shoe and they fit true to size, nice and roomy in the toe box. My one complaint is that the colors pretty much suck and no weather proof shoe for girls with wide feet. All in all they are a very comfortable shoe but wish they would make the women's in some brighter colors, not pink mind you, something in the bright yellow, orange or blue range would be nice. And waterproof for us girls with wide feet!

I'm still breaking these shoes in. I can feel the ground beneath me quite a bit. Feet have been sore but it is getting less and less. Very roomy. No pinching or rubbing

I bought these online without trying them on. I like the footbed width but the sole is not as rigid as I need. I bought some inserts and working it out.

I have never seen a women’s 11 1/2 shoe from Altra before, just what I was looking for. But the longer size feels wider than normal. So far good quality. My bunions need the extra toe room. Very little to no arch support, but there’s plenty of room for orthotics.

Even with socks on, still too large--so I believe 1/2 size down would work.

I've put tons of miles on the 4.5 version, but after only 20ish miles, these have already started to delaminate. I don't see them lasting up to 100 miles and as an ultra runner, I find that very frustrating. Everything else I absolutely love!

This is my first Altra trail shoe and I'm enjoying them. In the three weeks I've had them I've done mostly road runs, a couple grass runs, and a couple real trail runs in them. They are extra roomy in the toe box...almost feels wide width even for an Altra (never have I said that about toe box space before!). Currently, I have the Torin 4 in a size 10 (all around perfect fit for my foot) but had to go with the 9.5 in these. I'm figuring out how to lace them for the trail downhills so my foot doesn't slide around so much. They are comfortable, all of my toes are happy, and I've had the traction I've needed so far.

I am a registered nurse always on my feet. I tried every single brand that offered wide widths and ended up with sore legs into my shift. I am a true 6.5 Wide, and that is the size that worked for me in Lone Peak.
-1 because it's only offered in green. Other than that, these shoes are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. I have no issues with pain. Also waterproof. As a hiker, these would also be the perfect hiking shoes. I would definitely purchase more Altras... please offer it in women's wide width and a variety of colors.

After waiting several months for these to be released I was super excited to get them! Unfortunately, even the regular version is just too wide for me. I guess I have narrow feet. They are super comfortable!!!! They look and feel great on! I wish I could keep them, but I'm afraid that too much movement during hikes could be bad for me. I highly recommend these to anyone looking for comfortable and durable new hiking or trail running shoes.

I love my 4.5s. I was excited for these but my feet don't feel as good after a run. I get hot spots on the balls of my feet. I bought another 4.5 because I'm afraid I won't be able to find them soon and the 5s aren't the same for me. Bummed because they are pretty!

This shoe looks great, but it is at least a half a size smaller than other shoes in this line.

The length seemed true to size, but the width was much too wide from the mid-foot to the heel. The toe box was nice and wide, but the insole in the fore-foot felt like it slanted toward the lateral was uncomfortable.

I bought these shoes to replace my Topo shoes. First, the heel is a little big. Topo fits the heel better. Second, the cushioning is not as plush as Topo. Third, when I walk in these, there is a little constriction on the top of the foot, above the instep. All that being said, I will give these shoes a try and see how they do in the long run...no pun intended. I just got them this past week and they arrived quickly. The plum color is nice. I use these shoes for the outdoor fitness class I teach, even in January. My "go to" running shoes are Altra Torins, which I like better than Topo's running shoes.

I had high hopes for these shoes after reading many reviews and ‘best of’ lists. I wanted a shoe for light hiking, with no drop to protect my knees. Unfortunately it took about 30 seconds to realize these weren’t for me. Although they felt reasonably comfortable, the toe box was way too wide! My toes were swimming around in there! In fact the front of both shoes had creases in them, almost as if they had been previously worn. The overall size seemed larger than I would normally find but the width at the front made them feel like giant boots on my feet. They went straight back, and my hunt continues.
