I bought Altria Lone Peak 5 month and a half ago
My regular size 10,5, with thick sock 11.
Bought size 11
The left shoe front developed a crease, or fold that hurt my toe.
See photos attached.
I hiked under 100 miles only.

Bought these when they first came out in March. Heavy chemical smell. Not sure why that is? I ordered in the wide size to fit my square toe'd foot. I found the toebox a little too tapered (see picture). The overall volume was a little to large for my 11.5 feet. Returned.

I've become frustrated by Altra's inability to offer consistent fitment from year to year. I've owned a dozen pair of M-10.5 Altra's through the last few years and even though the longevity is poor, the fitment has been great for my feet. I tried the new lone peaks and ordered M-10.5 and I could walk right out of them. Then I tried M-10 and still way too big. I couldn't get M-9.5 to try on. The Lone Peaks are designed for long distance competition and are intentionally as light as can be. This featherweight is available at the expense of the carcass all but disintegrating within one year of owning them. Other casual and "approach" styles of Altra I own have had soles peeling off and soles wearing though the usable tread, both within one year. I wanted to like Altra but after giving many repeat chances have decided to stop considering this brand.

Altra over the past two years has changed the design and fit of the shoe going away from what built the initial fan base. The shoes are now running narrower and longer then past models. There is tons of feedback confirming this. Altra use to set itself apart now it's going mainstream like everyone else. Not happy with these shoes.
Zero drop, low cushion, aggressive, wide trail shoe use to be how I defined Altra. These are excellent mainstream shoes and work great on hard pack trails. No longer a wide toe box nor low cushion aggressive shoe. The 20mm+ stack height increases chances of roll over on technical trails.
I have been wearing Altra for 6 years and own at least a dozen pairs but stopped buying new stuff as a result. Just does not work anymore.

I've always been a big Altra guy especially lone peaks but the changes they've made to this shoe this year seems like it's more hurt then helped. Gave my feet major issues on the CDT this year.

My fourth pair of lone peaks and I love the shoes. However, this pair has glue failing in two places with only one week of casual wear. Still waiting to hear from customer service regarding the issue. Dissatisfied with the 5's so far.

Got these in wide, my first pair of Altras. My foot is widest at the middle with not so wide heel and it causes me problems with almost all shoes. So these fit perfect in the middle of my foot no issues there but heel and toes are way too wide. Toes section is bearable but there is like 1/4 inch slip on the heel even with max cushion socks and laces tightened to the max which eventually messes with circulation and pain in bottom of my feet. Tried running in them...no way with slip like that, actually ive never had this much slip on any shoe ive ever owned.. I wear size 11-11.5, i ordered these in 11 i could have went with 10 easy. I dont know what kind of samsqamch foot is this modeled for but not these feets. Im too lazy to send them back ill just keep lookin for that shoe that fits.

I am usually an 8 to 9 in size. I started with 8.5, then tried 8, then tried 7.5. None of them fit right for my foot and felt like there was too much room at the end and near little toe. I tried wearing the 8.0 for a day or two, but my foot was hurting after a few hours like there wasn't enough support or the cushion was too squishy, whereas my other Lone Peak All Weather never gave me this problem and it fit me at an 8.5. A bit disappointed and decided to look elsewhere.

I was excited for this shoe and was beyond disappointed in the outcome. For a little backstory, I can credit the Lone Peak 3.0 with saving my 2017 Appalachian Trail thru-hike. After trying many different brands and insoles along the trail my feet were trashed. Nothing would work for me until I gave the lone peak a try. I went from hiking 12 miles a day in excruciating pain to hiking 15 miles per day without an ache in my feet. They were a complete game changer. They were so comfortable and I could get 600+ miles out of a pair before having to replace them. The 3.5s were also great. The 4.0s were not as comfortable and didn't last as long but they were okay. The 4.5s were a continued fall from the once amazing 3.0s. And now we have the 5.0s. While they were initially more comfortable than the 4.5s and 4.0s they couldn't hold up in the long run. I made it 250 miles before they started to fall apart on me. The sole is squished to the point there is no comfort left. There was rubbing in the heel and other issues as well. Overall, I am fairly disappointed in the direction Altra has taken with the lone peak. I ordered the new Timp 3.5 to see how they treat me but honestly my hopes are low at this point. Is the 5.0 a good shoe? For the first 100 to 150 miles it's a fairly good shoe. But for $100+ price tag I expect my shoes to last more than 250 miles.

I'm trying to be fair here and keeping in mind that my foot is definitely on the wider side, I wear a 4E, but these were perplexingly narrow through the midfoot in the "wide" sizing. The toe box was nice and wide but my foot spilled over the edge in the midfoot like in regular fitting shoes. For reference the midfoot in the solstice xt feels just as wide as these, maybe wider.
Beyond that the heel was sloppy (I don't have excessively narrow heels), and there was noticeable pinching in the crease on the top of the foot. This may dissipate with more wear though.
I hope altra keeps experimenting with wide options but I don't think this is the answer. I hope this isn't a test to gauge peoples interest for future models. I can see it being too wide/sloppy for people with normal or 2E width but because of the way it fits it's too narrow for genuinely wide feet. I used to sell shoes and this design choice just didn't make sense to me.

So hopeful. And so happy you ventured into Wides. Too bad they didn't fit. Not quite sure what foot model you're using for the wide version of the Lone Peak but for me, the shape is off too narrow at the widest points of the foot and tapers too narrow in the middle. My feet fell slightly off the base. And the crunchy top made my foot wiggle around, caused creasing and an even worse fit. I pefer mesh and definitely need a bit more cushioning (like the Torin Plush but in a wider size, version). The Lone Peak Wide seems to be in between a 2E/4E but achieves neither (I am a woman who wears a Men's shoe for width thanks to bunionettes, neuromas, metatarsalgia). My shoes also have to accommodate a custom orthotic. They didn't work with or without the orthotic, which is rather slim...(Below: for Altra purposes, see the outline of my feet to demonstrate my point). I wish you would try to do a wide version of the Torin and readjust the width (you need to widen the mid-soul too). So sad. It's been wicked hard to find shoes for my troubled, fat, hurting feet. My doc recommended these to prevent coming down too hard on the front of my foot. I'm a neutral runner but need these for walking in the city. And I walk a lot. I had so hoped these were the ones. If you ever do a trial program for the misfits, sign me up! P.S.S. I only recommend this shoe to those it fits properly!

Didn't know you had to buy the wide version. Also the heel area doesn't offer much support. I wouldn't buy the lone peak 5 again.

I'll start by saying that the Lone Peak 3.0/3.5 were my favorite versions of this shoe. The fit was a bit sloppy for technical trails but the cushion was great and the uppers held up to some serious abuse. The 4's were an almost perfect fit, a bit too tight in the midfoot for me as Altra began slimming all their shoes down and the upper was much less durable. The cushioning disappeared after a few runs so the introduction of the Ego midsole on the 5 seemed promising.
So....I bought the wide LP 5's hoping for a better fit, but they are a bit of a disaster. Sure there is more volume inside the shoe, but they are NOT WIDER! The width is the same as the 4, with significantly more height inside the upper. I guess Altra thinks more volume = wide??? The result is a super sloppy fit.
The cushioning in the 5 feels the same as the 4 out of the box. I'm hoping the ego foam will last a bit longer and the tweaks to the upper will give it a bit more durability

Disappointed. Was happy to learn Altra was making a wider shoe but it's not wide enough in the right places. I was coming off the sides. My custom orthotic only exacerbated the poor fit. I would have also liked more cushion. I have troubled feet to begin with a bunion on one side, neuromas on the other. I either need an even wider shoe or it's just not designed to properly foot my foot shape, which would mean the wideness of the forefront would need to extend further on the side before it narrowed. The top mesh had too much volume and creased and didn't hold my foot properly. Another one bites the dust. It's been a nightmare finding a shoe that fits. I wish you could do custom.

My foot constantly slipped from side to side when on uneven surfaces. I rolled my ankle once wearing these. I am really bummed because I spent so much on these, and I now they just sit in my closet, almost brand new looking.
Wish I could get a refund.

Bought at a good price and only able to hike the Camino in Spain after the warranty expired. Brand new, but no warranty, went on the hike. Third day, 60km after, the laces webbing came off. Really??? This is my first (and last). Now I have a paperweight.

I liked the Lone Peak 4 so much I bought two pairs of these. These are the worst shoes I have ever had and I have had hundreds. I will never buy Altra shoes again. The laces will also not stay tied.

This trail runner shoe is incredibly comfortable until worn outside. There is no lateral stability on uneven ground and actually rolled an ankle, strained a knee and greatly exacerbated plantar fasciitis condition on a grass tussock. This wasn't because of the sole width, but results from not having enough side support. One would think that they might make a good urban environment shoe, but the zero drop sole does not provide enough cushion for heel strike, stone bruises occur, and most dangerously - they are extremely slick on damp, smooth surfaces like concrete, wood floors, metal floor covers, and tile. They can be worn indoors if you avoid wet surfaces, but there are better alternatives such as Keen Howsers for that purpose.

Altra has a real durability issue. Their shoes fall apart so quickly especially the stitching and glue on the upper. The sole wears out quickly, i rarely get 200 miles before it is just gone.
But i am hard on shoes, so if that was the only issue, i would let it pass because the footshape is perfect. Unfortunately, the shoe does not provide stability. I loved the stability of the King Mt and am still upset that they discontinued it. My ankle rolls over all the time in the Lone Peak. I have strong ankles and haven't gotten injured, but it just doesn't feel like a trail shoe should grip the ground. Very disappointed. Please do better Altra, i want to wear zero drop shoes that have natural footshape, but you're leaving a ton on the table here.
