I have had Altra's for years and love these shoes, but after a week of general usage the stitching where the toe of the sole is has started to pop out. I had previously ordered the Timp 3's which started to have glue come apart after a couple days so sent them back and tried these. Very disappointed in the quality of these recent ones.

Loved the earlier versions of the lone peak ( thru the 4.0) These versions had a wide enough toe box for the front part if my feet to lay flat And a normal heel width Backpacking long days with no blisters! Half the peops on jmt have been wearing these the last few years
But like all the shoes designed to fit feet with a wider across the toes They eventually change the design to bigger all over Which doesnt fit anyone well and then they dont sell well and then they are discontinued:(. Altra i am asking hoping that next years design returns to the previous designs because that is the untapped market of people with feet with wider toe area that can never find shoes to fit right
Those type if shoes especially ones that can b worn backpacking . Addressing this size shoe for people is why lone peaks got so popular
Making the nirmal size too narrow and the wides too big all over doesnt meet the needs of the feet that have a hard time (never) finding shoes that fit
I wear them everywhere not just hiking and never need to break them in etc
I buy two pairs a year
My whole family and a-lot of my friends have them because of me. Please return to the earlier designs for next year. New isn't slways improved.

My biggest issue is the rubber soles - it feels too squishy. A slightly firmer rubber would be fantastic
I like the new toe box. The heal could be a tad snugger so the foot doesn't slide laterally so much

When the shoe came out I purchased a pair and the seems of one of the shoe began to separate. I returned them and repurchased a pair and they are doing the same thing. I use these for walking only. Comfort - They are the most comfortable sneaker I've EVER worn. I have owned three of the Loan Peak 2.5 and have been waiting for this style to come out in the WIDE. I am so disappointed that they keep coming apart at the seems. Please fix this defect - I love this sneaker. Wish you did the WIDE in other colors and one that was all black for a more "formal" wearing.

I got these after Altra decided to cancel the Solstice. Sadly, they are truly made for off-road use. I mainly walk on sidewalks, and the souls have been shredded in a month of use. Unfortunately there aren't many options when you are a 15W... so I will end up buying a new pair of these... But I wish I didn't have to. They seem to be a little too narrow to call a "wide" size

These stretched heavily through the midfoot on the first run.Going from race to training fit. In addition I had to return a same size of another color as it was almost a size bigger than labeled. This is a known brand problem that should be fixed by now. Given the cost of these shoes this is unacceptable quality control.

After hiking the 210-mile John Muir Trail in Lone Peak 1.5s in 2014 and the full 2,650 Mexico-to-Canada Pacific Crest Trail in 5 different copies of the Olympus 2.0s in 2017, I was sorely disappointed that Altra shortly thereafter stopped making wide-friendly shoes. Yeah, that's right: since 2018 I have not been able to fit into a single Altra shoe. Thanks VF Corp .
Now, 4 years later, along comes the Lone Peak 5.0 wides. Do they make up for Altra's "one shape fits all" attitude?
Not fully. They oddly still have a very narrow midfoot. I can feel the inside edge of my foot hanging over the hard rubber edge of the sole. It's pretty weird to feel like you're falling off your own shoe.
Also, their sizing has gone haywire. These 12s are more like 12.5s or 13s in any other brand. Sadly I've already worn them in the dirt so now I'm stuck with them until I can justify giving Altra another chance with 11s or 11.5s, even though I'm a 12 in pretty much every other brand.
So beware: they have a weirdly narrow midfoot around the arch, and they're waaayyyy longer than expected.
With that said, nobody else really takes foot-shaped, wide trail runners seriously. Hence the "least worst" title.

Toe box was wider and more comfortable which was great but it meant I needed a smaller size. The shoe itself was pretty lightweight bordering on flimsy which seemed like a concern.

Decent shoe for a serious trail runner with a mojor flaw for anyone requiring forefoot control. The major issue is the laces don't go far enough down towards the forefoot leaving the front of the foot, which as we know is responsible for control and direction, sloppy and incapable of being tied down or cinched. I compared it to my Olympus 4's and king MT2 as well as the myriad of altra road shoes I have and it confirmed that the laces merely end an inch higher up basically making a corset around the mid-foot and leaving an extremely sloppy and untightenable compartment that is the forefoot. So long switch backs... Anything other than trotting and hiking straight will be compromised as this shoe gives no stable tie down. It only feels good in front end in huge winter wright socks and I'm in socal so...
Easily solved from a design standpo6.

I purchased the dark/slate. In the picture, as you can see, it's a gray and black shoe. What I received was completely black. I've seen the same picture used at other sites for this product. I'm disappointed that it would be so different.

I LOVE the Escalade 1.5s and I have 3 pair in reserve. These are actually narrower than the Lone Peak 4.5s, so I need to reorder the wide when it's finally available. The wait is killing me!

5 stars for comfort, 2 stars for durability. They were very light weight and super comfy straight out of the box. The highly touted midsole is almost too cushy. However, they didn't last very long. I wore them primarily working in a grocery store and the sole treads wore down at an alarming rate. Also, before the soles had worn out enough to justify retiring the shoes, I got a lot of small tears in the toe area where the vent holes are. These tears developed to the point my big toe was poking out over the course of about 10 days from when I first noticed it starting. In all, I only got about 9 months of use from these shoes, and I was not putting them through the ringer trail running, hiking, and etc.

These things just feel... slipppery. Unless you are on perfectly flat serfaces (which is not what these are meant for, your foot will roll/slide in whichever direction gravity says. It's dangerous. I'm not sure why people love these. I wish I could return them. I've only worn them twice.

The cushioning wore out fast, and unevenly, so my heel started sliding to the outside, cassing me to walk unevenly.
Not a good shoe unless you are very light and don't run in them.

They are still the most comfortable shoe, but the durability and quality has plummeted over the last generation of shoe. I used to get about 1,000 miles on shoes at work, now is like 600. I have to buy 2-3 pairs per year.

For the last 2+ years I've run *exclusively* in the Altra Timp 1.5. It was the first pair of Altra's I ever bought and I fell madly in love. Knowing that shoes change season-to-season, I bought every pair I could find in my size.
Sadly, my 6th pair is on its last legs and the Timp 1.5 is no longer in productions. I was disappointed to find the reviews of the Timp 3 were just terrible. Poor quality and craftsmanship. A terrible substitute for the 1.5 or 2.
I decided to give the Lone Peak 5 a try but it just doesn't stack up. I miss the cushiony, cloud feeling of the insole on the Timp 1.5 and the rugged sole.
If I'd started with the Lone Peak years ago I might feel different but I didn't. And now I'm terrified I'll never find another running shoe that works for me the way the Timp 1.5 did.
WHY, ALTRA?!

I've been buying lone peaks for years, the change in sole companies has hurt this shoe. The grip on wet rocks isn't what it used to be. Bring back the 4.5 sole and shape. Stop changing what works!!!

I've been wearing Altras for years and generally like this LP - especially the low height and tongue but the deal breaker is the sole that gets dangerously slippery when wet - that's a clear no-go for a trail shoe - fix this asap

I've been running in Lone Peaks since about 2015 or so and each revision tends to alternate between FANTASTIC or TERRIBLE! The 4.5s were fantastic and the 5.0s are terrible. They are at least a half size too long and the sole seems more narrow than previous models, making it seem like there is more stack height and less stability. They don't form to the foot nearly as well as previous models. They are reminiscent of the 4.0s which were similarly too long. Quit screwing up a good thing - go back to the 4.5s! I'm loyal to the brand because I'm sold on the zero-drop concept but I'll have to start consodering Timps or Superiors

I purchased Lone Peak 4.5's last year for backpacking, and I immediately fell in love with these shoes.
They've served me well, but it was time for a new pair.
The Lone Peak 5's have been a let down. The additional collar padding around the heel seems like a nice touch, but I find it causes some slop. It feels like the area where the shoe laces up over the bridge of the foot is also wider than the 4.5, which makes it hard to lace the shoe tight enough for my foot. Again, feels sloppy. When I do tighten the laces down enough to reduce the slop, it ends up pinching slightly on different parts of the dorsum. I purchased my 4.5's for around $70-75. The 5's are $130.00. I do not feel like I got my money's worth.
Now, setting my complaints to the side, there are some nice things about the 5's. The wide toebox is very comfortable, and the cushioning is still great. The traction seems good across rocky trails (if it weren't for the slop), and the shoes seem to still dry quickly when traversing wet ground or water.
In the end, I want the 4.5's back...

I did not enjoy the lone peak. This shoe offers very little protection against rocks and the upper needs more structure. I'm returning this shoe and trying the Olympus.
