I have ~20 ski tours on this jacket this winter here in CO. It is about a close to perfect as you can get for our cold dry snow climate. It is extremely versatile. It blocks wind reasonably well and breathes very well during high output activities. This jacket is not that warm on its own (not really designed to be) so you need to layer accordingly to weather conditions. Extremely burly jacket. This thing will last a long time. The downside of most softshells I've owned in the past is they are not that durable. I've ripped holes in them skiing through trees, sliced them with ski edges, etc. I don't really see that as an issue with this jacket. The material is not that soft on the inside; so I will probably wear a long sleeve shirt under it at all times. That's just my opinion though. Others may find it just fine. The medium size fit works well for me. I am 6'1'' and 160 w a bit longer arms and average torso. It has plenty of room for typical layering situations (cold to warm). Long enough in the back so when the jacket creeps up a bit from your pack the lower back is still covered. The design of this jacket is minimalist. Just the basics, but sufficient enough. Hood is big enough to fit a helmet easily, but can be adjusted to reduce the size/fit quite well. Requires over the cuff glove unless you have tiny wrists. Mine are small and its a tight fit if you try to stick a glove under the cuff.

This is a fantastic jacket. It's my favorite soft shell. It's very comfortable and gives lots of free range of motion. I like to have this jacket with me when I'm belaying while out climbing as a layer against cool, breezy weather. It's weather resistant, protective and very durable and feels that way while you're wearing it. I love the fit and green orchid color. It fits well over other midlayers and my helmet, but does not feel constrictive. The length in the back is highly appreciated, so my lower back is not exposed when bending over or moving around.

I bought this coat in onyx. I absolutely love it. Usually I am a Medium but I bought the large so it runs a bit small. It feels great on, sleeves are nice and long, no tight areas of discomfort. Keeps rain out really good. First Arcteryx item I have bought.

Been wearing the Gamma LT for 2 weeks now, very well cut jacket which beads up after a light downpour. I am a gardner so i wear the jacket for moderatly active movement. The jacket breaths very well and moves well when raising your arms. I now wear this jacket when its a bit to warm for my atom jacket and over other layers if it looks like it might rain a bit though out the day, It breathes better than i imagined and can get a bit cold during the evening, so be aware it is a jacket made to move in or to layer if your not quite sure what the weather might throw at you.

I bought this jacket for winter mountain biking and regular downhill skiing at ski resorts (no off-piste or other extreme skiing). The temperature has varied from -10 C to +5 C from calm to moderate wind conditions. So far I haven't used this garment in rainy weather (and as far as I can tell, it's not intended to be used such way). In heavy activity, as mountain biking, I managed easily in - 5C with merino wool undershirt and Rho neck gaiter. As judged by the steam evaporating when stopping, I'd say the jacket breathes pretty well. While skiing at the Alps, I used Rho AR as a middle layer and managed just fine. Occasionally while sitting in a lift without any wind cover, I felt a bit chilly. I must mentioned though that sun where shining the whole week, so that has a huge impact for the temperature regulation (my jacket is black). Taken that into account I could conclude that jacket is breathable and warm enough during moderate activity. For heavy activity, I would like to use somewhat more breathable garment. Design is great and size L is in line with my other Arc'teryx equipment of the same size. Sleeve openings are pretty tight, make sure to use a glove that goes over the sleeve. This jacket is a bit longer and therefore ideal for biking and skiing. This fit's me better than Gamma MX Hoody which was my other option. I'm very pleased for this product.

I had this jacket for over a year now and I must say that I am very happy with the purphase. It is wearable all year long, no matter what the occasion is. Just a walk through the city, hiking, climbing you name it! I even went for a short run with it! So it is a true all rounder.

This is really great jacket from Arc'teryx! It's made from nice cozy material with stretch. It sheds very little rain for a while and it block's wind nicely. One time i had to use it as hardshell when storm caught me and this jacket gave up after 2 min of really hard rain but it's a softshell so I can't complain. It's light, very well fitted and zipper just run's back and forward with no problems. If you are looking for light and good looking softshell jacket this is one for you. PS: I'm 176cm and 65kg and I got size S. It is perfect for me.

My partner got this jacket in Blue Onyx, a few months ago. I can report that she absolutely loves it. Not just because it is comfortable and a great fit. It is good in cool, windy weather, and on warmer days just over a T shirt. Not great in heavy rain, but everything else. But what a great colour! Great with jeansfor urban use, and looks really stylish. Sporty yet elegant. She is a UK size 10, and size S fits perfectly. I think she looks really stunning in it. Guys, buy this for your wife/girlfriend!

This jacket is just amazing. Fit is so good that you don't even know you wear one. Freedom of movement is unparalled. Also the quality of the material is great, feels so good next to skin. I use this for spring time backcountry skiing trips, for hikin in everyday wear when temperatures drop. I find it a good springtime isulator. Wind protection is great and breathability top notch. I choosed this one before Gamma MX hoody as it's less bulkier and lighter. I would recommend this jacket to everyone looking at a great softshell jacket for year-arround use.

I bought this to replace another soft shell and love it. It fits really well, has long back length and sleeves and is surprisingly weather resistant even though it has no membrane. I have taken it rock climbing and found it moves really well, doesn't lift out the harness, pockets aren't impaired, doesn't get damaged against rock and the hood easily covers my lid. I also have taken it up Tryfan in winter conditions as a mid layer and until the wind got apocalyptic it was great as a stand alone, and I was warm using it with only a summer baselayer and a pro shell. It doesn't overheat in cooler conditions either. Would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a year round shell for different stuff. Isn't too bad on price either, only niggle would be the hood is slightly huge without a helmet. Otherwise it's awesome.

I've used many different softshell jackets over the last 20 years, and this is one of my favourites. Softshell clothing is all about balancing protection and comfort, and this jacket gives a really good balance of both - a high degree of wind and weather resistance, while also having excellent breathability, not too much bulk, and a noticeable amount of stretch. Being uninsulated, it is usable over a wide range of conditions, worn over an Atom LT, Powerstrech and baselayer in winter, or just over a baselayer T in the summer. It is not as wind and weatherproof as my Venta SV, but noticeably more breathable, less bulky and less 'cumbersome'. It isn't as breathable, and doesn't work as well under a Gore-Tex shell as my Acto MX, but does offer better wind and weather protection, and has a much better hood (the peripheral volume adjustment gives a MUCH better fitting hood than the height volume adjustment on the Acto's hood). I was very unsure about the non-velcro adjustable cuffs to start with, but now really like them. There is enough room to get gloves tucked up inside (even when wearing a bulky altimeter watch), and of course they are dead easy to get tucked down inside a bulky glove or mitt, due to their lack of bulk. The only time I miss a wider, adjustable cuff opening is in warm weather when they would allow a bit more ventilation. The pockets are a good size and well positioned. Otherwise the 'clean', uncluttered design is really nice - just the right amount of features. So - not as good a full-on winter jacket as my Vento SV, and not as good a layering or summer jacket/shirt as my Acto MX, but a really good, versatile all-rounder - a good one to pack if you have no idea what the weather is going to do, or you haven't built up a wardrobe fully of Arcteryx softshells!

Over the years, I must have owned about twenty soft shells, as I could never find one with the right balance between weather protection and breathability. Then I found this piece. Fantastic wind and water resistance. With the DWR working at it's fullest potential, anything other than a full-on downpour it dealt with admirably. Wind resistance is excellent. Very little to choose between this and my hard shell. Yet it's fantastically breathable. When working hard, you can actually see the perspiration working its way through the fabric. I run hot, so this is a very big benefit for me. The fabric is incredibly durable. I've had it two months and I've ran it pretty hard and it's as-new. Great fit, detailing and quality. Of course. That's a gjven with Arc' pieces. The hood fits as well as any - very similar in design on my Alpha SV. It's not 100% perfect - for some reason the pocket zippers don't fit under the little garages, and the main zipper isn't a free-riding design like the one on my Beta FL and Alpha SV. Very minor quibbles, though. All-in-all, an absolutely brilliant piece and the best softshell I have ever owned. By a very long way.

Just purchased this hoodie hybrid because I needed a uninsulated, lightweight, athletic fit jacket to wear around town. This jacket looks great no matter if I am wearing it out at night with a button down underneath, or hiking through the park during the day with a light hoody under it. It is quickly turning into my go to jacket that I grab to do all of life's day to day activities in. I wish more companies would have the mindset of arc'teryx. Their attention to detail on their clothing is some of the best I have found. This is my fourth jacket I have purchased from them in the past 6 months and just proves that if a company produces high quality, long lasting products, that consumers will continue to purchase from them. In fact, I am so impressed with their products that I have no intention of buying anything other than arc'teryx gear for all of my outdoor/active lifestyle needs. My only regret is not finding out about this company sooner because I love everything they make from the merino wool base layers to the new tecto gtx jacket. The only thing I could possibly ask for from them is to make some hiking socks with that nice merino wool stretchy fabric :) Thanks arc'teryx!!

I own a vest, hood, and beta jacket, all in large. They fit me with a little extra room. Perfect! Now the cut has been changed and the large atom sl that I bought just fits. I read about the changes but the extra large would be too long in the sleeves and way too long in the body. I love the wait and quality of the product. Just confused on the change up of the cut.

I bought the Atom SL about 3 weeks ago. I am 5'4" and have a 44" chest. I bought the large and it fits. The thing I don't understand is why are all your models 6' tall and slim. I would have liked to see the hood on a shorter person to get a idea on how the sleeves and overall length would be. I have a of other jackets that large fits me on the more room side of things. Just wondering about why you have changed the way you coats are cut now?

A nice item, but there's something not quite right about the hood. Its lower lateral panel is not cut to be tall enough and consequently there's not enough material to contour to the neck and it pulls the top half of the hood down on the head in an uncomfortable way. It also slightly restricts the turning of the head to either side. That's my experience having tried it on.

After getting the Proton Lightweight, I felt that it was still a bit too warm for the spring/cool summer days in the SF Bay Area and was looking for an even lighter jacket. I got the Atom SL thinking that the non insulated hood and sleeves would work for warmer temps and it did! I could wear this jacket casually in situations where I would feel like I would be too hot in the Proton Lightweight. The jacket is incredibly thin making it great to pack in a bag once it got too hot. It also does well with cutting wind during cycling as well and I have found myself reaching for it to use as a cycling jacket often. The non-insulated sleeves do feel a little off with the jacket however. A review I read once stated that it was more like a vest with sleeves than a jacket itself. I highly agree. I feel that thickness of the chest doesn't flow well with the thinness of the sleeves. Fortunately this is only cosmetic and I personally find that it isn't a deal breaker. An issue of functionality that I do have is the stowaway hood. No matter how I stow the hood away it always manages to look awkward and lumpy. Overall this is a great light jacket that offers super light insulation and packability. 8/10.

Great piece for layering or standalone in cool temps. Pockets are ideally designed. Softest synthetic layer I've tried. Feels like a well broken in hoody on day one. The hood is gigantic for a layering piece. I could easily get it over my largest helmet. I'm accustomed to this type of hood fit from a gore tex shell, not an insulation layer.

I'm in between sizes for sure. Large is always great in torso and arms but the shoulders tend to be tight especially with this jacket. On the flip side if I size up to XL I'm swimming in the torso but the shoulders fit. Great winter hiking softshell though. My gripe, as per usual, is the amount of lamination used. It think a lot of it is unnecessary and will create fail points limiting g the longevity of the jacket.

To be fair, I hate hoods. I rarely use them and they seem to cause more problems than they're worth (catching on packs, blowing around in the wind, obstruct hearing, and just awkward). I love, love, love this jacket but find myself not wearing it because the hood drives me nuts. Pretty please make a hoodless version for us beanie and ball cap gals.

This is my second Atom SL Hoody. I wore the other one out- had to retire and replace when the zipper failed. Versatile piece as a stand alone in warmer temperatures or layered in colder temperatures.
