Perfect layer for so many things.
Keeps you warm while staying highly breathable.
Range of use that has worked well:
- As an outer layer while approaching ice climbs on a sunny day on a glacier, or to alpine rock climbs in slightly cool temps - it keeps you warm while vent out sweat easily;
- As a mid-layer beneath a thicker jacket such as the Atom AR Hoody in deep winter for alpine or ice climbs;
- As a light jacket above casualwear in the city coz it's just so comfy!
Decent durability against rock abrasions. I've rubbed it against chimneys and various rocky surfaces while climbing. It lasted me one rock season so far. Just don't stab it with an ice tool and this jacket will do just fine.
Hood adjusters are helpful for use with helmets. The pockets are of just the right size. No chest pockets but this keeps the jacket light. It doesn't have pocket stash, but you can use the hood adjusters to cinch in the jacket and it did the job for me.

I wear it every day. With a shell or without depending on the weather. It's not as long as it looks in the photo (see model).

I use this jacket for all things. I bike commute through the fall, summit summer peaks, throw it over a base layer for a bit of extra warmth on a nippy evening. It moves with -- not around -- my body in all activities. I'm a slim guy, which makes that difficult to say for many products. The hood fits either on a naked noggin or with a helmet, even easy to adjust between the two. The cuffs have a bit of a flap on the thumb side that helps to keep the wind and chill out of the sleeve. Speaking of wind, this thing cuts it, and the contrasting heat-dumping fabric is strategic placed where the wind typically doesn't reach. I really can't say enough great things about this jacket as it does precisely what it is designed to do. That said, the "niche" it fills is almost entirely up to you.

This thing is unreal. The Atom SL is perfect for cold weather activities especially If you burn pretty hot. I wear it on cold weather rock routes, ice climbs, ski approaches, and basically any other time when its cold and I'm being active. Its incredible how breathable the Atom SL is. If you don't generate quite so much heat I would consider going for the Atom LT, as it offers similar breathability with a little more insulation.

When I first got the jacket I thought it would be too warm or not warm enough but it proved me wrong!!
A good layer for cooler summer weather or when higher in the mountains when a light wind jacket is not enough but a heavier layer would make you sweat. Useful in an autumnl chill or when spring has not yet heated up.
I would still bring an extra layer if out on a longer/ committed climb or ski tour if you're stopped or stood still belaying.
The fit is comfortable, length not too short, and stretch is allows movement. Some people say they don't like the length/style of the cuffs but I found it a nice change to not have velcro on the cuff, keeping it simple and light.
It's less bulky than the Atom AR, breathes better than a fleece (and looks better), but obviously is not waterproof.
Pockets were a good size and no internal pocket also keeps down the bulk but hem and hood adjusters are useful.
I've worn it on climbing and hiking trips, + when running in very cold temperatures / altitude, and it looks good to wear around the rest of the day.

I really like this piece. I'm 5'10 145lbs and the small fits quite well through my shoulders, arms, and torso. The length is right to my belt line. I've used this piece to start cool morning hikes and easily put it in my running vest once I get warm. It's great to pull back out on the summit when the winds whipping on a cool day. Perfect for campsite wear, and it's a great day to day choice if you live in the pacific northwest.

If you need medium warmth and light weight, this is a great jacket. Fits great and is light enough to take as an extra item. I was on a trip this summer and one of my partners needed some extra warmth. Since this jacket is so light, I'd thrown it into my bag. He was very happy to get it!

I am 186 cm, 75 kg and the jacket fits a little small in M. It is ok, but a thicker mid layer does not really fit underneath. Nevertheless I recommend the jacket as a light insulation jacket for chilly summer days / evenings or as light insulation underneath a goretex jacket in winter. It is also stylish looking, so I wear it in town above my casual attire.

This was my first Arc'teryx product and it impressed me so much... I had never heard of Arc'teryx before but when I searched the internet for the best softshell jacket this one came up. So I purchased one in size large. I am 183cm, 82kg and wanted it a little bigger so I can layer up.
After 2,5 years it still looks like new. Mostly, I wear it around town but occasionally also when hiking. It is not waterproof but it can withstand a good amount rain before water leaks in. It is not insulated but when active it can be worn down to 5-6 C with only a base layer underneath. It breaths really well and in direct sunlight it is actually cooler wearing it than not.
Since I wear it mostly around town (where I don't need a helmet) the hoody way too big. Maybe Arc'teryx can make an urban environment inspired softshell like the Gamma LT Hoddy?

Previously my favorit Arcteryx piece was the Atom LT Hoody, but now it has finally been dethroned. I simply love this jacket and want to wear it all the time.

This just might be the perfect summer layer. It is warm enough for chilly mornings, breaths so well that it doesn't need to be stripped off immediately once I start moving, and it's just right for shady alpine breaks. It's soft and really comfortable - my go-to layer this season.

Since getting this jacket, I have been wearing it exclusively. It is surprisingly warm for a thin jacket and very windproof. On a really cold day, I layer it under my Nuclei. It has the comfortable feel of a fleece, but it a lot less bulky and is windproof. It washes easily and has stood up to some hard abuse.
I hesitated purchasing this jacket, since I already had an Atom LT. They are completely different jackets for different uses.

I have two of these jackets now and I love them. The jacket is incredibly light for all of the protection that it offers and packs down very small which is perfect for alpine climbs with minimal gear. It's water resistant enough to see you through a light rain but even when conditions become very wet, the synthetic composition keeps you dry. I love the vibrant colors and the fit is fantastic--I'm 5'10 with an athletic build and this jacket is long enough to fit comfortably under a harness and with all of my pants! Definitely a great piece to have in your closet!

Originally got this jacket for rock climbing, but I have found that it is now my go to jacket for everything. Recently I brought the jacket with me sailing and it kept be warm and dry despite the ocean spray and wind. While climbing the jacket is lightweight and breathable enough that I feel comfortable.

The old atom lt is still the bread and butter of arcteryx, and there were solid reasons for it being a top seller. If you are not sold on the atom series go try on one for yourself.
Having owned the original hit wonder atom lt, the sl is surely a performer over its bigger brother. Shedding weight and coreloft it is better suited for Oregon weather IMO as its heavy enough to handle our winters to our early summer months.
I have not had this for a full year yet but it has been worn for many more occasions compared to my lt for reasons in it shedding some of its coreloft - making it more versatile to handle our warmer months.
Overall great piece, carries the atom feel and comfort that was so loved by many. I think going forward the atom has only gotten better with this SL, especially for my state of residence.
Keep on improving this atom line, arcteryx- it is still a winner in my books.

Since I got this jacket I have taken it on all my adventures. Its light insulation combined with how it cuts the wind have really won me over. When wearing a harness or pack it still fits really nicely. The hand pockets are in the right spot.

In my opinion one of the best new pieces that any outdoor apparel manufacturer is making right now. Good water repellency in damp conditions, and the Coreloft is a perfect weight. Great as an outer layer, but also lightweight and breathable enough to wear under my Beta SL jacket in rain.
Would recommend this jacket to anyone as a work horse piece.

I do a lot of backcountry skiing and ski mountaineering and am pretty picky about my layers. I feel like I'm constantly putting on layers when I stop and taking them off again to start moving. This jacket has changed that for me. I was comfortable moving in temps from 55 degrees F all the way down to freezing. I barely noticed when a cool breeze kicked in and my partner had to throw on a jacket. When stopped to transition and the temp was just above freezing, I did find the need to put another insulating layer on after a few minutes.
I love the slightly longer top part of the sleeve to keep my wrist covered. The stretchy side panels dump heat to help keep you comfortable and the jacket moves easily with you. The neck is high enough when zipped all the way up to tuck my chin in if the wind picks up a bit. And I like the slightly higher pockets which are easy to access with a pack on. I'm very impressed! I will definitely carry fewer layers with this piece in my repertoire!

Great piece for cooler days when the wind kicks up. Perfect for early starts climbing multipitch routes on the Chief. The jacket moves with you and blocks the wind at the same time. Super warm for the weight. Light enough to easily stow in the pack while climbing. This jacket goes with me everywhere!

I recently purchased the Atom SL as a lighter counterpart to the Atom RH for use while bicycle commuting. The Atom SL has been ideal for cycling under 45F or higher temps and light rain. It is suitably wind/weather resistant, without excessive insulation to encourage sweating. As with the RH, it layers perfectly under a waterproof shell for serious rain.

It is simple: it fits a standard Large, trim and in case the weather allows you to work with just a base layer or even a t-shirt, here you are the perfect complement for you stop or any weather variation.

My first Arc'teryx purchase after hearing a lot about the brand and I'm not disappointed.
Worn on and off for a warm to cold week in Wales' Brecon Beacons, it was lightweight, easy to stow, very warm for the stops, even for half an hour or so.
The most satisfying was on a day's mountain walk at approx 10C, cold fog and light rain. The Atom SL hood did fantastic as an outer layer wearing a base layer and lightweight t-shirt underneath. Wore it all day, (removed for the hardest climbs where I got too hot with it on) was comfortable, warm but well breathable throughout, and impressive water resistance for such a lightweight and non-waterproof jacket. Took over an hour of light rain and mist to begin seeping through the sleeves, but overall no change in warmth and I was dry underneath. Once the rain stopped, brushed off the surface beads and it was almost completely dry in about 20 mins.
Impressive bit of kit and will now be one of my essentials, keen to try the rest of the range!

I have just used this jacket during six days of ski touring in the Hohe Tauern Austria and it was absolutely excellent !
It provided an ideal outer layer over my Fortress hoody when leaving the hut early morning, good breathability when skinning and as the day warmed up it provided a wind resistant layer for skiing down having dispensed with the mid layer. During stops and on the summits I pulled on my Atom AR to keep warm. A Beta Sl jacket in the bottom of my sac was reassuring in case the weather turned nasty and my Procline pants were perfect.
For me this combination was ideal in terms of options depending on the temperature and prevailing weather.
The lightweight material of the Atom SL means I may be reluctant to wear it on the rock but we'll see!
This jacket complements the existing Atom range and has easily exceeded my expectations.
